Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner call Black Widow a Slut

I'd be a lot more offended if they claimed she was a well-written and rounded character based on the last Avengers movie.

This isn't surprising coming from these guys. I think the fact that the cast is so incredibly close knit makes them forget where they are and what the hell they're saying during interviews. Stuff that might just be a joke among close friends wont always fly with the general public.

It's a misogynist joke, and we've spent the last fucking year fighting over misogyny in geek culture. It's not funny, it's not okay, it's getting seriously fucking old.
Lol. Settle down. They shouldn't have said it. It's not the end of the world. Also Avengers is beyond geek culture

Instead of battling other people's actions online for an entire year, you might consider going outside and enjoying it a bit. Relax man

Yep, along what I was thinking. Plus, you're doing marathon interviews and are probably mentally/physically exhausted. You're bound to say something stupid, it's just a matter of time- Everyone is capable of and probably has said something regrettable.

Let's take a deep breath.

You do a million press junket interviews and things get really loose. Black Widow is a fictional character.

It's a crude ill advised attempt at a laugh but, really.

And this thread sums up why I cannot get serious about getting into any comic book movies! It's a massive turn off.

Its just a joke. Relax.

So...here's the thing.

I am of the mindset that anything can be funny. Jokes can deal with any sort of material and put a humorous spin on them that can even make the most atrocious ideals light hearted and cause us to laugh uncontrollably.

As long as the joke is actually funny.

So in this case, what is the punchline of the joke? Is the punchline of the joke, "She's a slut"? And if so, is that funny?

This doesn't even seem like the issue of punching up vers punching down, this doesn't really come off as a joke at all.

Granted, I'm not calling for some sort of mass walk out on Avengers or something, I think the worst that can be said about this is that Renner is guilty of being a poor comedian. But still...it caught me off guard.

Thought it was worth discussing.

Wow fuck these two. It's not funny and it's already fucking annoying enough to see BW's character get brought down to who she ends up with.

These two are such dudebro's together it's gross.

Dumb joke against one of the few lead females cast members and the only main heroine from the first flick (not like she isn't sexualized enough to begin with).

Glad they apologized. I do empathize with them being friends and all, but this was the wrong place, wrong time.

oh, high priest of Comedy, i confess i may have laughed at a joke that wasn't actually funny ... forgive me, Father

The real victim here is Black Widow. What does she have to say about all this?

It's a deadpan joke about how they keep using her as a love interest w/ all these different characters. It's fine- it's just something you don't want to say on camera because then the faux outrage happens. I suspect they would agree with the fan frustration about her.

(Also, the joke is funny.)

The question was about all the different characters people "ship" with Black Widow. OP conveniently cut out the question which made the answer completely out of context.

It's not a joke that's funny to anyone outside of their social circle. My friends and I joke all the time, shit talk each other in jest, and say stuff we'd never, ever say in front of a camera.

She's not a love interest with anyone but
Hulk
. So no, the joke is stupid.
