Alright alright, so fictional character or not, Black Widow is one of the very few women who are kicking ass in big budget movies right now. Lets not just laugh off any representation of her as "lol it's a story!" because her character definitely will have an influence on audiences.

So if they DID represent her as some kind of tropey sexually charged animal it would be odd to then call her a slut as it would be an example of "slut shaming" in mass media.

However, that's not what's happening here. Two tired actors told a bad joke that was apologized for.

I don't think it's in the movies, but the interviewer explicitly brings up fans putting them together. That's the context for the comment. Renner is acting like a spurned lover here.

Yeah; I actually thought they were making a really biting joke at how men can hypocritically go from worshipping a woman they are interested in to trashing her in a second once they find out she's not interested in them. :/ Reading the apologies, I gave them too much credit.

For those keeping track, not only does Black Widow barely get her own merchandise, she also gets slut-shamed by Captain America and Hawkeye.

Let's hope a giant apology is coming Johansson's way. With so few female superheroes out there for girls to admire, it's upsetting that the Avengers are picking on one of their own.
