Considering black ops 6 is the best selling game ever on ps5, I wonder how many millions the game sold despite 61% down in the uk, for physical sales.

MS buying CoD way past its peak and watching it decreasing in popularity after being one of the biggest things ever reminds me of MS buying Nokia way past its peak and watching it decreasing in popularity after being one of the biggest phone makers ever

Microsoft is truly a reverse Midas for any franchises it touches, huh. BO7 is the first CoD since MWIII that I've outright skipped. And I count since the 2003 PC original here including the PSP and even the Vita titles.

Now with gamepass in the picture MS will probably will be reluctatnt to give them a year off which they badly need.

B6 and Ark Rider are significant competition this year... Added to that, the futuristic theme of this Call of Duty lacks appeal... It's reasonable to expect worse sales figures than in previous years.

All things considered, this might be the wake-up call that finally makes Microsoft/ACTV rethink their strategy for the franchise. Call of Duty definitely needs a break, a technological leap, and a well-chosen theme for its return.

Seriously. Is his twitter account an AI? Only way I can rationalize that tweet after seeing the Steam concurrent users thread and this one.
I think all of his decisions are dictated by Copilot for years now

« Putting 70$ games day one on a subscription based service costing a refundable 1$ would definityly bring players to Xbox if we count the amount of people saying they would buy the game for 1$ »

The game will sell well no matter what but a company like MS and with the position Xbox is in right now the last thing they need is for sales to drop to much. Which it seems like they are dropping a lot this year. Doesn't help that next year GTA 6 will also hurt sales.

GTA6 will affect everyone though. If it ever comes out.

It will affect everyone who relies on their games selling in order to succeed. Someone like Sony is only going to benefit from GTA 6. They can delay any game they need to or release it early. Since they don't rely on their games selling to make most of their money.

Probably will still be the best selling game of the year though with the holiday bump

Probably but do you think MS cares that there game is the best selling game of the year if at the end of the day they end up losing another 200-300 million?

How many were buying CoD on autopilot every year just because 'it's what everyone else will be playing'? Once the tide starts to turn on that, it could be impossible to stop.

You can download better shooty-shooty games for free and that'll become a bigger problem with each passing year.

The thing that differentiated COD from the freebies was the quality campaign, but it looks like the campaign is getting worse.

Maybe it's time to ditch the campaign and make it a free to play. I imagine they make most of the money from micro-transactions anyway.

Citation need.

MW22 - 140,000 + [693,000 D] = 833,000 (battle.net = 154,000)

MW23- 105,000 + [424,000 D] = 529,000

BO6 - 105,000 + [345,000 D] = 450,000

BO7 - 40,000 + [???,000 D] = ???,000

If we assume similar digital to BO6 then BO7 is ~170K (-62%)
If we say digital is now 85% then BO7 is ~270K (-40%)

IMO its looking like ~50% drop

Probably will still be the best selling game of the year though with the holiday bump

No if this UK is reflective of it's reception worldwide and I don't see why it wouldn't be. It will most definitely not overthrow Battlefield 6, EAFC26.

You do understand that the holidays are coming & the kids will ask for Call of Duty & the grandparents / casual gift buyers will automatically grab the new Call of Duty.

Like they do every year. What makes you think that's going to be enough when in the above post I showed it's going to be down more than 50% even including digital. BF6 sold more physically even though it audience skews more PC which is 99% digital.

I hate to be that guy, but really, who buys Call of Duty physical editions? Is there even anything on those discs.

I am all for game preservation but even the campaign is online this time.

They are essentially game key cards at this point.
