Wair, does it need external power?
Does it come with the package?

Who the fuck would buy this?
Seems like a way better idea than that Nexus Q.

What's in the box
Chromecast
HDMI extender
USB power cable
Power adapter
Finally. Nexus Q was the dumbest idea. This is exactly what we wanted.
The problem I have is everything already supports those now with no external device (tablet, phone) required. It's another proprietary device in a sea of proprietary media devices. It's the Google equivalent of an Apple TV but less functional.
You'd think they'd get onboard something like Miracast and make a dongle for that that actually does work with most devices and is industry standard. Instead we have an awkward cloud-based solution that only works with internet enabled media streaming on a per service basis.

well your in luck. Since everything supports Chrome, everything supports this. Magic
Being able to stream any Chrome tab is pretty nice and means it could (theoretically) work with anything. The problem I have is everything already supports those now with no external device (tablet, phone) required. So, as most TVs already have a USB Port, I can probably use that for Chromecast
Except it doesn't. All those Android apps aren't Chrome. All those Windows apps aren't Chrome. All those iOS apps aren't Chrome. But why does it need to be this awkward? You can get full Android media sticks for a similar price. Or why not a smaller Chromebox? Chrome can already sync open tabs across devices.

I have Netflix and YouTube functionality on my TV already. So, what would be the draws of this for someone like me?
I'm thinking:
1. Entire Google Play Music collection playable through my sound system.

so... it's just the AirPlay feature from Apple TV?

Will it do photos from your device (like slideshow functionality)?

So VLC needs to add chromecast ASAP.
Or maybe I can start uploading my movies to my youtube account as private videos?
