Chronicles of the Wolf - Castlevania Fans Rejoice!

Bought...will play some tonight.

As an aside...having to find this game here in a random thread (no offense OP) really pisses me off.
I have "knelt at the alter of Gabe" since it was released and I have spent an un-GODLY amount of money on that store. Why does this stuff NEVER end up in my discovery queue or recommended on any of my steam pages?

Their curation algo is trash. /end rant

This game a buddy of mine told me about today and recommended it. I have no clue how he even heard about it.

This had 0 advertising and no one is talking about it yet it seems to be top shelf gaming for my interests.

Truly fucked when stuff like this goes completely under the radar.

I see you, Great Value Richter Belmont.

Will check it out though. I miss Igavania. Konami plz. Kith and make up with Igarashi.

I want to play it - definitely looks like my sorta game. I'm pretty sure it's from the same dev team as Wallachia, which I really enjoyed - definitely a hidden gem.

The character moves like Rastan Saga in a way? :)
Wishlisted - but these days, there are so many indy-metrovania inspired games... I wish Konami will revive the franchise with a brand new game.
I love Igavania Castlevania, and would love to have him back at helm at Konami Castlevania dev team... but at the same time, I would love to see a new direction too.

Looks cool, thanks OP.

There's a demo for those interested in giving it a go.

Spent an hour or so with this tonight.

Probably obvious but this is a bit rough around the edges. Controller mapping is odd but is completely serviceable.
  • Overall the controls are snappy and functions just like most 'Vania games. Control wise (length of jumps, responsive movement while jumping, sub weapon usage, etc) it feels like Simon's Quest.
  • Enemy variety is nice and their attacks animate well.
  • There are a few rough world assets but the enemies are nice and the music is passable as well (at least so far).
  • Sub weapons are are neat takes on the same types you'll find across most Castlevania games.
  • You get 6 equipment slots, there is a relic system (have not used) and what looks like a few hidden systems.
If you like the demo I would recommend!

After SOTN I just want to play as the bad guy, or at least somewhat evil in terms of power. The concept of playing a half vampire was just awesome.

Which is the best one? Dominus?
I'd say you would be better off getting Dominus for the NDS QoL features but the Advanced Collection is fantastic with Circle of the Moon and Aria of Sorrow. I'd say Dominus has 3/3 awesome games while AoS has 2/3. Both worth checking out.

Anyone actually play this?
Is this actually sotn or more castlevania 3/curse of the moon type game?

If more linear souls like pixel game, forget it. If actual sotn or castlevania 2 like metroidvania then count me in. Anyone actually know?

If you like this genre I would also suggest BladeChimera. A little less complete or diverse than Castlevania but still a solid game! Physical copy on Switch is available.

Also, this bad boy is coming up and hope it's masterclass. The trailer looked promising, it has so many cool features including character swapping just like Portrait of Ruin

Holy shit.. Sold.. That looks amazing. When did that come out?

Also Check out guns of fury for a metal gear/contra themed metroidvania. Awesome game.

It came out on January so yeah it's pretty new! I hope you like it, I also really dig the OST you'll see.

Yes! Guns of Fury, I forgot about it but I was looking for a physical release , it's already on my wishlist though, thank you for reminding me.

I picked it up and wanted to share some thoughts:
-Symphony of the night meets Simon's Quest
-Plays more like a super castlevania in the levels but retains the RPG elements of SoTN.
-Fantastic voiced narration and soundtrack
-Game looks good albeit some things feel not cohesive. Certain background aspects.
-Don't know if this issue persists on all platforms but I got it on my NS2 , and at the shop the screen flashes a strobe effect that is seizure inducing and it does it for one enemy so far which is a water ball. I imagine this is a bug and hopefully is only for NS2 so other platform players won't be subject to this cuz it fucking sucks hard.

Overall high recommend for castlevania fans.

Slightly clunky but full of the Castlevania spirit and certainly worth checking out if you want more games in that old-school style.

Unlike Simon's Quest, there are usually some clues or reasonable ways of finding stuff, at least from the few hours I've played so far. Beware the death traps though.

The music also rocks!
