Chrono Trigger. Best RPG (Game?) known to man?

I just found my old SNES cart of Chrono Trigger with some long-lost SNES crap and played the hell out of it last night instead of studying for Finals. This game just rocks all kind of socks, the characters kick ass, the spells were awesome and the story is just amazingly involving. I'm also a sucker for anything involving time travel. I had forgotten how epic this game is.

Best RPG ever in my humble opinion.

Edit: It's so nice to play a game where I can save and load without taking 5 mins of my time and cast spells without lame time consuming animations.

Was anyone else let down by Chrono Cross. I tried playing it but never got farther than a few hours into it. Why did the main character look like a girl?

He looks like a girl?

Final Fantasy 7 is not better than 6. Kefka makes sephiroth look like a pansy.

Chrono Trigger is the greates Rpg ever made. Everything about just rocks. Chrono Cross had so much potential but its stupid combat system and horrible character development turned me off.

1)Chrono Trigger
2)Earthbound (where is my Mother 3 Nintendo :()

Story wise, character wise, 7 > 6 and 7 > Chrono Trigger at least to me. But then again I think about it and both share elements of great games.

Nothing beats the Chrono Trigger battle system, how it switches smoothly into the battle screen. The techs were awesome too, character design and music are all up there too. It's hard to tell whether this is my favorite RPG just because it definitely gets a biased view from me due to it's nostalgic value.

Best RPG ever? Nah, Deus Ex holds the crown.

Best console RPG ever? Yeah :) FF6-7-8 are close, but not close enough.

Seems like I play through this game every year, this year I finally played it in Japanese, which was pretty awesome for some reason. Love this game.
Best RPG ever though? Eh, I just don't like Lavos as a villain. Up until the first fight with Magus, the game is perfect, but after I don't particularly like it as much, even though its still f'n great.

/spreads some Chrono Trigger love

Though, Final Fantasy 2(US) will always hold a special corner in my heart, still the king, in my opinion!

It's certianly the best turn-based RPG I've played. And FFVII's story was horrid. If by the end of the story you just don't give a damn about the characters anymore then there's a serious problem.

This sexy bastard is now part of my incomplete Snes collection.

I've also got an american one, but no box, they're too expensive. :( I intend to get a PAL Snes, a converter, probably a bunch of japanese SFC RPGs (they're just so sexy!), Super Metroid and a couple of other gems. Until then I won't play any emu. :)

PS. The CT in the pic is only $20. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...0889938&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW#ebayphotohosting
You won't need a converter to play that game on an american snes :)

Chrono Trigger is still to this day my favorite game of all time as well.

If you're one of the few who has forgotten this masterpiece somehow, maybe you just need to be reminded.

If you've never played it, you should know that you're missing out on one of the greatest entertainment/art creations ever. There is very little doubt in my mind that Chrono Trigger gave me the most engrossing and enchanting videogame hours of my life, and I still can't seem to stop myself from returning to it annually to experience it all over again. It's just an awesome, awesome game, and I simply can't find anything wrong with it.

Nearly ten years ago it was released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and no one ever expected it to make such an impact.

Chrono Trigger -- a game that had literally everything. Considered by many to be the single greatest game ever created. Arguably more captivating and emotional than anything created since for any system.

As many games as I play (and that's a lot), whether I'm reviewing them or just enjoying myself, I still haven't found myself returning to the way I felt the first time I played Chrono Trigger, and the way I still feel each time I replay it. It's a game that truly doesn't get old.

A group of developers passionately referred to as "The Dream Team" are responsible for this masterpiece. The Dream Team consists of:

Hironobu Sakaguchi of the Final Fantasy series (now leader of Mistwalker)
Yuji Horii of the Dragon Quest series
Akira Toriyama (character designer for Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Quest)
Yasunori Mitsuda of Xenogears (a musical wizard, to say the least)
Nobuo Uematsu of the Final Fantasy series
...and more.

So many varied environments, and such a compelling, mystifying storyline. Characters with more charm than all of Final Fantasy X's cast combined. And the music... don't even get me started on the music. The word inspiring comes to mind.

Multiple endings, many hidden far away in the depths of the game. No random battles. Some of the most epic and captivating locations and themes in any game to date, and a number of elements that have been copied (or, at least, attempted to be copied) in more recent games.

A main character that never speaks, but still has such a strong personality. Good guys who are bad, and bad guys who are good. And, maybe most importantly, the sensation of starting off just having fun with some friends, only to embark on a magnficient adventure to save the world from an impending evil 999 years into the future.

What a game. This game literally had it all. If you haven't played it, your life is not complete.

Maybe that's why it sells for so much these days.

Chrono Trigger is (in my opinion) the best RPG ever created.

I'm not even a big fan of RPGs but Chrono Trigger was/is a fucking masterpiece.
No RPG comes even close to the perfection that is Chrono Trigger.

Is this the SNES one where the 2 twin girls turn themselves to stone in order to save you? If it is, then yeah, that's pretty much my favorite as well.

I actually played FF7 before CT and FF6.

It's really a tough call between all 3 and they are *all* masterpieces in their own regard. Comparing them to eachother is like comparing da vinci's mona lisa to da vinci's the last supper. They're both unique, intriguing and inspiring for their own reasons. At the end of the day, if you haven't experienced these games - you truly are missing out on some of the best gaming ever.

Additionally I'd like to add Planescape : Torment to that list :D

Chrono Trigger is the best RPG ever, I remember playing this game for months trying to max everyones level to double star... I had everyone but Magus... damn that low level bastard.

CT is fantastic, much better than its sequel... I wouldn't say it's my favorite RPG ever (Phantasy Star 2, Star Ocean 2 and FF5 being them), but it's definitely up there. I know many people (some who don't even play RPGs) who list it as their favorite game ever.

chrono trigger... not my favorite RPG of all time but damn is it close. Plus I gotta give it bonus points for being a loved game of so many people that hate RPG's. If someone just has never liked RPG's, Chrono Trigger is the game to make them try.

the problem with chrono cross was too many characters. They just flooded the game with characters you don't care about and will never use and you don't get to just really get to know 5-6 characters.

edit: also magus is one of the best video game characters ever.
