Chrono Trigger. Best RPG (Game?) known to man?

I never finished Chrono Trigger (damn close though, last boss) but it was a brilliant and memorable RPG. The second best RPG on the SNES.

and the best RPG on the SNES in your opinion is?

I never had the chance to play Chrono Trigger in the SNES period, probably because of the fact I had to import it. (Belgium) I wasn't that fanatical about gaming so I didn't import it.. which I still regret.

Although.. I finally found a copy in end 2003 and finished the game, darn I was impressed by the fact such an "old" game had such an impact on me, proof of a pure masterpiece.

ohh, the memories.
snes = best system ever.

Probably my favorite system too.

That 3D Chrono Trigger was an awesome effort, but I still prefer the look of the 2D characters. Then again, I am a whore for almost everything 2D gaming wise.

There are two things that set CT apart from the normal 16-bit RPGs for me. One, is the wonderful music.

The other, is the timed hits aspect of the gameplay. This adds so much diversity to the battles, and is so much more fun to play than the typical "click command, watch character attack". It's nice to be able to actually use some reflexes and skill(as little as it may require). Super Mario RPG was also great for this reason. Just very, very fun to play.

I just hate it when I go to play other RPGs(Like Breath of Fire for instance) and out of pure instinct I'll try to pull off a timed hit, knowing full well it's impossible.

Erm...timed hits? Could you refresh my memory? I'm not being sarcastic here; I seriously don't recall that. Are you talking about pressing A or something at the right time to inflict more damage?

Right. You can inflict extra damage by pushing the button at the right moment.

Haha, man I really understand this.
I broke the X button on my original PS1 controller because I couldn't get it in my damn head that when you pressed it during Beyond the Beyond it didn't increase the hit percentage and increased damage.

I got so frustrated while playing that game and banging that button I wore it out, haha.

How the heck do I not remember that? Did they ever say that in the game/manual, or was it just something that people figured out?

Not sure. I've never owned the CT instruction manual. I figured it out out of pure instinct from playing Mario RPG.(Which, I believe teaches it to you through game instruction). I don't think CT ever tells you how to do it, in-game.

Well, for whatever it's worth, I love Secret of Mana.

One of my favorite gaming experiences of all time in multiplayer. Of course a lot of that probably had to do with who I was playing with too.

In single player it was still a great game, but needs to be played in 3 player mode to get the full experience.

No one cares about the homebrew GC Chrono project?

Actually, I always thought it was a terrible waste of their time and talent.

Secret of Mana, how is it to play the multiplay with 2 players?
Up to 3 actually.
Press select for player one to choose their person, press start on controller 2 to bring in player 2, they can select from the remaining 2, and then player 3 can hit start and get stuck with the girl as usual. :lol

lol, I actually mean: "Is it any fun to play it with 2P instead of the max. amount of P possible?"

Oh, I thought your question was a tad weird, haha.
Just 2 is just fine, that's how my brother and I played it years ago. Someone just needs to make sure the other character doesn't get all stupid. Usually we left the girl open and whoever needed healing would be able to do it easily.

Should I replay Lufia 2? I thought it was terrible when I played it.

Every dungeon chock full of crappy stone pushing puzzles- I wanted to play an RPG, not Lolo.

though if we're talking about SNES RPGs released in the US, Lufia 2 is definately the best one...

I mean, you can't go wrong with a game whose dungeons are freakin' Zelda reminiscent. And that's only icing on the cake of a game with just so much to do in it.
