Hinds recently wrapped production on the role of Steppenwolf which is a motion capture character from an alien planet, much like the Marvel Studios villain Thanos played by Josh Brolin in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Insiders also said that Steppenwolf’s look will be upgraded from his first appearance in the DC Films universe in a deleted scene from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”

Lock if old.

I'm still baffled they went for Steppenwolf over Darkseid. Just the name alone's enough of a reason to avoid the character.

I'm still hoping they can pull it off, but I'm not expecting much.

Born to be wildling, I guess...

Fixed.

Why, why mention Marvel? "Much like"? The only thing alike is that they're alien and by that metric fucking Goku is like Martian Manhunter.

I fully trust Zack Snyders incredible vision and expect nothing less than an epic masterpiece. Second trailer can't come soon enough.

I think I recall hearing a rumour that Warner Brothers are holding off on bringing in Darkseid to avoid comparisons with Thanos.

Definitely. If anything, this might be more like a Loki deal, where they save the big villains for later, but throw in a still-powerful character before doing so. The only issue is that Loki was built up through Thor. Steppenwolf has a deleted scene in the already-glutted BvS.

They either want to try and make Darkseid a surprise or he won't show up until part 2.

He better wreck some shit, I want a powerful who truly wrecks havoc. No point in assembling the League otherwise.

Alright, let me get this straight, a casting news of a good actor somehow will turn a movie into a fucking mess?

I dont follow this logic.

It's cuz it's DCEU, everything they do is a mess.

The news could be like "James Cameron and Darron Aronofsky are directing the next DCEU movies" and someone will say "DCEU is a disaster"

I'm pretty sure the "much like" part is referring to the motion captured CGI character aspect.

i'm just asking questions

i was referring to the fact that he was apparently in BvS? i saw both versions and don't remember him

Wan is better suited to these movies than both of those - as a result, Aquaman will probably be the only really great DCEU movie

So he's going to get the shit slapped out of him after hemming and hawwing for an hour and a half and will get killed and barely mentioned or acknowledged ever again while having little to no real impact on things aside from perhaps killing off the hero the community cares the least about?

Yeah. It looks like he'll be a full CGI creation, which logically leads to the comparison. Though, I'm hoping there's at least some likeness to the actor in the CG rendition of Steppenwolf.

It's a very brief appearance after the climax of the film in the Ultimate Edition

If they don't do Two Earth's I don't care, but if they do...delicious.

SW is a master troll. Ultimately a patsy, but a patsy that incidentally dooms everyone

Seems like pretty great casting, he has a very distinctive voice. I'm glad they aren't going straight for Darkseid as that would be pretty damn stupid which seems to be the main takeaway of the DCU so far.

Sounds like a good comic book movie villain to me.

WB clearly wants to push more then just their lesser known characters. It's why Dark Universe is a possibility. That would allow them to push John Constantine and hopefully Zatanna and Swamp Thing more. Marvel did the same thing with GOTG. It's why Suicide Squad happen. One of the most popular characters out of Suicide Squad is actually El Diablo and no one expected that.

Pushing Steppenwolf as the main bad allows for them to reinvent the character. It also stops anyone from complaining about them not using their prefer version and allows the character to breath and the writers and director to do what they want. Look at the complaining that took place over Lex, Zemo, Joker, Mandarin, etc. just because they dared to do something different with them or not present them as the full formed versions. Steppenwolf not being well know is a benefit. The draw of Justice League is the actual Justice League.

His performance as Caesar in Rome is among my favorites in TV. "He was a consul of Rome!". Hope this is a good role.

I'm definitely excited to see what Wan does, and I wouldn't really expect either of them to take on any new DC movies..my point is no matter whose attached people are already for this to suck...really really BAD

When they say "upgraded from his first appearance in the DC Films universe" they mean they're going back to the original Kirby costume right?

we'll see if the DCEU tries to be more lighthearted from here on out

if Wan is still able to make a dark, horror-y Aquaman film (but Snyder doesn't have anything to do with the film), it will have the most potential of any DCEU movie and most upcoming MCU movies

we'll see how it all plays out
