He is pushing Miyamoto to get it out for launch. If it was coming to launch he would say so like he did with SSB3

Actually he said the exact same thing about SSB3, that he'd push his developers to make it out for launch.

This is great news.

I can't wait to see Mario at E3. Even if they can't get it out exactly for launch, hopefully it'll be out very quickly afterwards, unlike SMS which was months down the line.

Controller looks nice and compact but still big enough to hold comfortably. Nice.

The two clips they showed seemed kind of odd, like they weren't even in the same room. I wonder if they filmed that guy asking a bunch of questions before hand, sent them to Nintendo, had them answer which ever ones they felt like answering, and then sent the answers back in order for them to be edited together with the questions.

Nope. They were both in the same room.

I wonder why Iwata is speaking Japanese, when he speaks English perfectly.

he is in japan, so why not . i think he might be tired from all the interviews and hustle from that day that speaking japanese would be much easier for him to handles

I think it could use the pointer alone. Mario would move on screen pretty much the same way you move the arrow on your computer monitor with your mouse. Point the controller down, and Mario walks/runs forward. Point it left/right and he runs left/right. Tilt/twist it left/right and he rolls/strafes left/right. A jumps, B punches/kicks. D pad controls the camera.

You could ask the same of Miyamoto, who is also fluent in English. It's probably a matter of being more comfortable to avoid any self-translation errors that might get blown out of proportion in the press.

Wow, didn't know Miyamoto was fluent.

I wonder if Yamauchi was.

Looks a bit too small for my hands. I hate to be in the minority in this. All the next-gen controllers look a bit small.

How is having buttons named A and B and on the other hand named X and Y, while there is another A and B button up there not intimidating to the casuals?

I think they may have already changed that. The official pictures they've released of the controller don't have that, so it's likely the prototype he has there was just made before that bit of tweaking.

What the... Miyamoto is fluent in English now? My understanding was that he wasn't fluent, which is why a) he always had a translator, and b) the few times he's spoken in English, he was reading from a prepared speech.

They have to name those bottom buttons A and B as well, so that when people play old NES games with the controller flipped sideways, Nintendo doesn't need to re-code any instructions segments in the game that say "Press the A button"

Adding the X and Y tag must be in case a developer decides to use those buttons while players play in pointer mode, to keep them different from the other A and B.

The book "Game Over" says he only knows a few words and sayings in English even though his favorite film(Star Wars & Indiana Jones) and band(The Beatles) are in english. :lol

I think it's good that its small. Then you will be able to reach all functions comfortably with your fingers.

the best thing I got from that interview was a better impression of how small the controller is. very cool. hopefully mario at launch or ~6 months. SSBM and metroid should keep me fairly busy.
