Ghost of Yotei: Odachi gameplay (short clip)

If you cant see the difference of your own video to the one showed today a have nothing else to add to this conversation.
I highly doubt the trailer is using lethal difficulty. Ghost of Tsushima on normal or easy is about the same as we see in the Yotei trailer, lots of enemies taking turns.

i really wanna like this game too though.
like I really enjoyed Horizon Zero Dawn, and was super hyped for the sequel and wanting a new system just for that. Then I played it for 2 hours and just stopped.

it would have been so easy to just have a sequel of Jin as a ronin with no more connection to his house and how he deals like being treated as just a vagrant

Do you think people are just over rhe "cinematic" action game where it looks like most of the animation is just the game doing that for you. Im looking forward to goy but im trying to figure out whay might have changed the tone.

Elden ring and from soft games are cultural phenomenon now. People like hard games. These flashey simple, more cinematic games are maybe not as appealing to the masses anymore?
I think this was maybe true few years ago and now fortunately more and more people are tired of soulslike games, also since when gameplay in ghost of tsushima is cinematic ?

I don't know about you guys, and this might not be totally on-topic, but I really, really miss marketing from the early 2000s or even the mid 2010s.
I think a big change is where most eyeballs are. A lot more people are on IG/Facebook/TikTok, so that's likely where most of the marketing spend is going. Which of course means bullshit like these 1 minute videos, or banners/ads made for cellphone screens.

Plus side is its less expensive. Downside is - like you correctly identified - it lacks any soul or creativity. They're definitely reaching more people, but McDonald's also sells more McRibs than an actually good BBQ spot.

Yeah you hit the nail on the head, I hadn't thought much about the short video format having that impact. Damn kids.

I actually felt a bit of this with the first game already. When it came out this was not my kind of game. I'd just burned out on another open world of some sort and wasn't interested in tsushima. It turned out being pretty good due to the story, graphics, and peaceful nature that you are able to transverse. Also the photo mode was fun to play around with and I liked how the wind guided you. By the end, it had slightly overstayed its welcome but I wasn't mad at it. Gave it a solid score. The combat was a bit predictable and the animations were all lock-in but you take the bad with the good.

So actually I am a bit over it. Add in that it is looking not great and they have removed my haiku and got rid of my characters and story from the first one, and I'm even more over open world schlock now, so I'm actually not that excited for this anymore. That's sad because they had to work to make it this way, it couldn't have been that easy to kill my hype. It was always a normie game for me but it feels like they have made it even more generic here and I don't really want to be stuck on soulslikes forever but damn if they aren't trying to make these normie games worse than ever, ala Horizon. There was a time when the first game was rushed and the 2nd game was the real game. Now it is the opposite, ala Jedi Survivor. I'm worried this is a pale shadow of the first game which was only decent(again ala horizon).

Why do all these gameplay trailers from GoY look horribly bad? I loved GoT, platinumed the game. I should have been all excited for GoT's successor but I feel nothing. Everything they've shown so far was a disappointment or underwhelming... Don't understand this at all.

Because the highlight of these games are the environments: With the nice art direction, the colors, the leaves in the wind, etc.
And yet for some reason they've decided to focus the marketing on zoomed in videos that highlight the underwhelming up close detail and characters models.

You can make Tsushima look better than these Yotei trailers with a low res GIF by simply zooming out and showing the world.

That and the fact the first one felt new and exciting. This is just another "more of the same" Sony sequel launching into a market that now feels a bit sturated with "open world ancient Japan" games.

This looks even worse then last time. What the fuck have they done all these years? Graphics look like last gen and animations are copy paste. They just added a few things like new weapons. This is nothing more than an expansion.

Man fucking fuck this game, sony can take this back up their unoiled asses.

Really curious to see how this one ends up performing financially. Seems the general consensus is overall negative.
Personally I was turned off by trailer 2 when it was clear they downgraded the lighting heavily.
Looks like Sony's cost-saving measures are going to end up costing them sales.

it baffles me that someone tough this is the most efficient way to market their action based samurai game, it looks boring as fuck.

Yep. What made GoT so striking were the vistas and the beautiful art style. Nature was such an important element in the game. I loved how the wind guided you to your destination, how you could get goodies by following a fox to a hidden place. Taking a bath and writing a haiku was a nice way to make the player learn about those aspects of Japanese culture.

But there's nothing similar in the marketing material for GoY. It all looks a dumbed down version of the original game as if they completely misunderstood what made GoT a great game.

just look at the actual trailer for each game

VS

Everything on the first game say "epic adventure", Yotei looks generic af compared to Tsushima

Some weird bits:

00:07 she kinda teleports off the horse and floats to that enemy
00:27 a phantom parry. The parry animation plays before the enemy even attacks.

Draw distance is pretty rough. Pause at 00:41 and look in the distance. Blurry mess. Even objects on medium distance seem super low poly / resolution / detail.

Another weird and bad trailer.

Sucker Punch's soul isn't into this as it was with Tsushima. Something is missing.

didnt knew that GameFreak was developing Ghost of Yotei

I really can't muster any kind of enthusiasm when it comes to this game, i really can't, it's the most "meh" title of the upcoming PS ones, but more than that, the tech behind it looks dated, so much so that it could almost be considered DLC to the 1st one which is now old.

Two things I don't like. First, the camera is too close, I don't understand why but that will be a problem for sure while fighting many enemies

Another issue I see, why are enemies so passive? Why don't they attack instead of waiting their turn to die?

It's weird
It wrote in the trailer: " Some camera angles adjusted for trailer use ".

Animation, gameplay, graphics, everything looks like coming from one or two generation ago. Also, main character and enemies too are really bland and ugly. This could be another big fail for sony.

Well, let's put a fucking Gundam on it as well if you're gonna pull that genius argument.
I didn't clutch my pearls when other games had me mow down scores of faceless mooks because I understand I am being sold a power fantasy for the sake of gameplay. In reality I understand that a female ronin would not be able to pull off such feats, or that B.J. Blazkowicz cannot topple the Nazi regime by himself, or that bow and arrows likely cannot destroy a mechanical T-Rex, or that North Korea couldn't possible invade and occupy the United States, but these are all fictional stories wrapped in the gameplay and tropes of a video game.

boring aahhh gameplay loop. Enemy AI just waiting for their turn to get slaughtered is so outdated. Makes the fighting mechanics so repetitive instead of being engaging. One of the reason why I got bored of the first game, despite everything is so on point.

Everyone seems so down on this game

Yeah, I don't get it besides the ones that feel threatened by a strong grill. I can understand the 007 hate, but this looks like a game ass game compared to that snoozefest.

I like how it seems the grass is being flattened by the battle. First time I've seen that.

It does look bad for me tho, but i can figure out why, because none of these gameplay similiar with what i did in GOT, in first game i use alot of bomb and gadget to stun and install kill group of enemy then quickly fade away, or lure them close together and throw a bomb, but most of gameplay they give us just walking in and start doing some lame combo with weapon

WTF???

This is the strangest current gen only game from SIE that I've ever seen, or maybe from any AAA studio. There is absolutely nothing on display that serves to illustrate how the extra CPU and/or GPU power is being utilized. Lighting, AI, environmental detail, etc... no improvement detected whatsoever. Destruction allstars showcased better. I remember playing the damn madden demo early in the gen and THAT was more noticeable useage of the hardware. And to have this happen with one of the most beloved franchises of PS4 gen is insanely unexplainable.

It's sony's MO IMO. Make a great/solid 1st game. Let the fans down with the sequel and completely kill the franchise or weaken it. Spider-man, GOW, TLOU, Now ghosts. Horizon too.

Complaining about the fact that it looks like the first one but praising every mario kart, zelda game is nuts! :) We know what NEOGAF's true problem is with the game
that you play as a woman

Nah, it's a disgrace that they have to zoom out to show other thing because their graphic is barely better than a ps4 title.

You can have high fidelity and gorgeous art design, one doesn't exclude the other.

People should be glad that they are showing how fucking lazy they are, it is gonna save money for many people who were hoping for a graphical jump.

Tsushima was technically rough and saved by his artstyle even on ps4, if there was a game that needeed a jump in fidelity, it's the damn sequel.

I think this has the takashi miike mode turned on (like the Kuroasawa filter), so the camera is more zoomed in and adds more blood. Agreed about the enemies though, them attacking turn by turn seems so dated, I thought we'd be past that by now.

I thought the first one was over-rated. It had some good moments. I'm not feeling it with this one. If it gets rave reviews and people say it's better, than I will probably give it a good next year at some point.

Expecting more than 5000 yen and 10 cup noodles budget from nintendo games is like expecting the spanish inquisition, cmon.

Expectations are everything, this is why nobody gives a fuck when a fromsoft game look a gen behind and run even worse.

But a nextgen only sony first party? Expectations are 10x times higher dude, it's not rocket science.

I agree that it should not be the case because all games cost 70 dollars but it is the sad reality we live in.

John Wick walking inside a building with a handgun and killing 40 trained killers in 5 minutes.
We don't need to argue about the fact that basically every action movie and every game is unrealistic. But when a 5'0", 100-pound woman takes down much bigger, heavier, and stronger opponents like they're flies, in a fighting style that actually relies on physical strength, it just reaches peak absurdity and breaks immersion for some people.

Mario Kart is whatever, but Zelda? BotW doesn't look anything like Skyward Sword which doesn't look anything like Twilight Princess which doesn't look anything like Wind Waker, etc.
Even if you played as a man I'd still think Yotei looks boring and too much like the first (but I thought the first was boring too).

Reminds me of gta v on ps3

yeah but hey, Gaf was right about them
You realize this is a new low, right?

Unless you want to argue that Ghost of Yotei is going to be on the same level as Concord, SoM and Avowed?

Though it's funny to actually see Avowed being mentioned in the same breath as Concord, which brings me to the fact that according to Gaf general consensus, Avowed was a great to amazing game.😏
