Cloud Saves will soon be free for Xbox 360 users

Bernkastel

Ask me about my fanboy energy!
For those of you still enjoying Xbox 360, cloud saves will soon be free to all Xbox 360 users, making transferring your favorite games to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S even easier.
Preserving the games of our past is fundamental to our DNA at Xbox and our continued promise to you. Backward compatibility lets you experience your cherished gaming memories again and in new ways. Your favorite games retain everything the original developer intended, while experiencing enhancements and exciting new features. There's no need to look back, because your games are ready to move forward with you to the next generation of Xbox.

The save stuff is really above and beyond.

When I got my One X, I was perfectly content to to restart my old games. It's a reasonable expectation. Seeing that the One X could reach back ten years and two console generations to snatch a save, and that all my achievements were preserved, was lovely.

I am not saying it is a bad thing but people that would take advantage of this would probably already have Game Pass/Gold since it would required for the XBSX/S. Or, can you download the saves from the cloud to the Xbox Series X/S without Game Pass/Gold?

I honestly forgot that you still needed gold for cloud saves on 360.

Still, nice they are finally removing that. Microsoft is absolutely leading in the save + back compat space. I really want to see Sony and Nintendo catch up. Still frustrated about not having Splatoon and Pokemon saves online. I like how I can log into any Xbox console and pick up where I left off.

I think I have multiple accounts for PS and Xbox. I couldn't even remember the email address I used. Should be unified going forward though which is nice. I think I lost Viva Pinata due to account confusion. Thank god for password managers.

Yeah, its kinda crazy that you get like ultimate game save cloud storage with the Xbox.

Xbox One has free cloud saves. Although there hasn't been any confirmation I'm aware of, we can assume the same will be true for the Series X|S consoles.

This is likely a tactic to try and sway people who skipped the Xbox One entirely and went from Xbox 360 -> PS4. Like "hey, remember all those 360 games you have? Sync your saves to the cloud, then pop your disc in the Series X and get to playing!"

This right here. Haven't logged into XBL on a console for years, but it's pretty incredible that I can blow the dust off it and retrieve the saves of those old games to play the improved versions on SeriesX. Hats off to MS so far, night and day difference from their last console launch.

I still play old games between my Xbox One and me 360 so this is really great 👍

This is indeed a nice gesture. I've got two 360s and was considering paying for gold so that I could not deal with saves everywhere. I think I'll take advantage of this.

Xbox 360 didn't have that, you needed Gold

it was always a weird distinction and made no sense.

You mean like the original Halo servers for Xbox? No. They were pretty public about turning it off.

og Xbox servers had to be turned off. the old network needed updates and these updates would crash og Xbox games since they introduced features that these old games and the OS of the og Xbox weren't programmed to support.

for example, support for more than 100 friends among other changes.

I would love it tho if they somehow could get these games online again. maybe an integrated version of something similar to Xlink
