CM Punk signs with UFC

Lot of people going to be eating crow in this thread.

It's funny that people think that he can't fight simply because he's a wrestler, it's as if he hasn't been training jiujitsu for a long time and doesn't have any natural talent at all.. oh wait.

36 years old with lots of damage done to his body, not very athletic, and has zero fight experience. Seriously I wish him well, but he would get absolutely wrecked by any middle of the pack MMA fighter. They'll give him one of the biggest cans imaginable, so he may win a fight or two.

Punk's issue wasn't with money as much as it was with not getting respect.
Thing is, most of the ways your employer can show you respect involve getting paid more money.

That too.

Respect is his code name for money. His story about the WWE screwing him out of the autograph signing and SlimJim sponsor was very telling, especially since he said "i don't care about money" about a million times the week before.

He has zero real combat background (the top guys have been doing wrestling or some kind of combat sport since they were kids) and he's 36 years old. Lots of people take BJJ classes, it's trendy these days, jumping from that to UFC is fucking light years. It's an insult to the guys on the roster to think some guy off the street can compete.

i guess im watching ufc again. clearly a money making scheme for white and brooks, but ill still dig watching punk throw real punches. maube he'll be good.. lol

Gonna be eating a nice plate of crow next year.

Well, he wears Gracie gear so he's all set.

He's done pretty well hitting people who weren't expecting it, like fans

I saw a pic of him inn Facebook training with a Gracie, Roy Nelson, and King Mo. So who knows, at least he's putting in the work.

And I know he's trained bjj for a while under the Gracie's, and he was good friends with Chael so I'm sure he trained with him too.

So Dana is just signing people with 0 pro or amateur fights now. Isn't UFC supposed to be top tier?

When you see replies like this:

Might have to watch my first UFC show.

well I guess I'll be watching UFC pay per views again

This ^ I'm interested in seeing how he does. I've not even watched a proper UFC match before (though I did buy the first UFC game on 360 for some reason...)

Well will watch his first match if nothing else

I guess I'm watching UFC in 2015.

Wow, didn't expect this.

Damn that's interesting as hell

Sure, why not?

Can't wait to watch him get beat up.

You know how much of a genius Dana is.

I'm not sure that Punk can flourish with the lack of creativity in the UFC writing department, but it should be fun to see him again.

The UFC and WWE are probably equals in the creative writing department.
Provided you ignore NXT, that is.

Don't bring there posts up if they give him real jobber to give him a win. If he beats someone known then people should eat crow.

His first fight is going to be a draw though. Its going to make money but if he loses then its a one and done when it comes to being a draw.

Anyone with sense knows Punk is going to get the king of all cans in his first fight. Dana will make sure of that just to fuck with Vince.

Good for him. It's his body and decision. It takes balls to go on national television with the chance of getting your head caved in with the additional pressure that comes with being famous.

Yup. He'll probably get destroyed in the octagon but props to him for trying at least.

Insofar as it's genius to take one out of Vince's playbook.

Difference is UFC is supposed to be legitimate, and these PR stunts have backlash. WWE can have grumpycat on and it's forgotten in a week.

A problem of their own making, they overexposed the product.

It was really just about fight cards falling apart and nothing interesting (or nothing at all) to pick up the slack... Which I guess is another way of saying what you did. 2015 will see a return to prior years' numbers.

Yeah. I've never seen anything from NXT.

I think there are still similarities, I just don't find the UFC product as entertaining usually.

Dana White is doing what's best for business

this thread is already longer than the thread for the current UFC pay per view lol

"Herschel Walker is like 50 years old and it’s a cool little fun hobby," White told Gridlock on ESPNRadio1100 (0:10 mark) in Las Vegas."You know what makes me crazy is the media attention it got. ESPN will cover Herschel Walker fighting when you got guys like George St. Pierre, Anderson Silva, Brock Lesnar, and B.J. Penn. All these great athletes that have been training for years and are the best in the sport and you are talking about Herschel Walker? Then you start talking about Walker possibly fighting Jose Canseco? Oh my god, give me a break."

"Hell no. You know what would happen to Herschel Walker over here? It would be the first death in MMA," said White. "He wasn’t impressive in his first fight; he would have to turn it up for the next three or four."

At least Dana is embracing his inner carny now.

He gets to fulfill what was probably a dream and make more money for two maybe real fights a year than he would have made fighting 200 fake fights a year and fuck up his body less. Even if he never lands a kick, that's a win.

Good for him.

They were just straight up putting out too many fight cards to the point where none had any starpower. It's still a problem.
