Jerusalem (CNN)Israeli leaders planned to attack military targets in Iran in recent years, but they were held back due to the opinions of other government leaders and military leaders, according to an audio recording leaked to an Israeli television broadcaster.

One planned strike was canned after scheduling conflicts with a joint military exercise with the United States got in the way, according to the audio.

The recording with former Defense Minister Ehud Barak was leaked to Israel's Channel 2. It detailed three strikes Barak had allegedly planned with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively.

CNN has translated the audio, which is in Hebrew. CNN is reaching out to Barak to confirm its authenticity, and to other officials mentioned in the recording for comment. Barak has reportedly confirmed the audio's authenticity to other news outlets.

This is a non-story.

Pretty much every semi-major or bigger country has drawn up plans for military operations against other countries including those they would call allies.

The nature of defense and counter intelligence is knowing and being prepared for any and all possible scenarios.

I'm sure plans are drawn up all the time and rejected by government and military leaders. The last one is pretty strange though, since I can't imagine an imminent attack being delayed and then never followed through on. If the need was so great, how is it they gave up so easily? Doesn't sound like we have the whole story, and I'm guessing the third might have had a fate similar to the first two.

Ehhh, most nations have contingency plans for attacking other countries.

One planned strike was canned after scheduling conflicts with a joint military exercise with the United States got in the way, according to the audio.

But this seems really weird, "We were totally gonna attack Iran, but we were really busy that day!"

This is a little different. It seems Israel was going to strike according to reports but a scheduling conflict got in the way. More like the US told them to shut it.

I get having plans for every scenario, but a planned strike getting cancelled because of scheduling conflicts is more then just having plans. It's actually carrying them out.

Can't imagine what kind of shitshow Israel attacking targets in Iran would've caused.

Read the article again though. It says plans for an attack were aborted due to scheduled US military exercises. Why would they need to be aborted if they had no intentions for carrying them out? This sounds like they had actionable and imminent plans for a strike.
