Analysts, journalists and even publishers were wildly grasping for a solid clue about the launch price of the [PSP]. (Atari's CEO even publicly proclaimed he expected the PSP to sell for $500.)

Because Microsoft managed to sell out at that number -- so far. I don't imagine X360 with HDD will stay at that pricepoint -- I wouldn't be surprised to see an X360 price drop coinciding with PS3's release.

There was a Japanese article about Japanese analysts reporting that Sony will put it out at roughly $399 price point. I think it will end up that way unless something miraculous happens.
