CNN/ORC Poll: Trump 44%, Clinton 39%, Johnson 9%, Stein 3%

The message of "hope" has to work beyond the people already voting for her though.

If Obama's argument that he'll make at the upcoming Democratic convention about economics and foreign policy is true and not motivated spin then why does anyone need hope? The only reason I could think of is he's spinning problems as overblown and America is great already when he may be wrong. I guess that we'll see soon enough if folks believe him.

How to you publicly release a poll where 18-34 year olds are basically N/A? Like, doesn't that mean your polling is a little unrepresentative of the United States of America considering the country doesn't only consist of baby boomers?

Sssshhhhh

Huh?

Yeah, I thought that didn't show right.

The Clinton people were arogant as fuck towards Bernie supporters with stupid gifs of Hillary laughing and wearing sunglasses.
Hopefully they get a massive kick to the gut

The model basically adjusts the swing-state polls in a scenario like this to match the swing in the national polls.

That's a strange way to do things. The recent polls out of Colorado, Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania all had Clinton in the lead.

I mean, usually people get a convention bump...but that convention was so horrible that I thought he wouldn't.

Seeing the poll numbers depresses me so much.

If 60% of respondents to your survey is through landline, something young people don't have/care because of the prevalence of smartphones, and you have so few 18-34 year olds respondents that they're listed as N/A, obviously your results are going to slant conservative.

When you take these facts into account, it isn't remotely surprising that Johnson got 9%. Heck, the actual surprising thing to me is that Clinton is only down 5% against a Republican nominee.

Posts like these are pathetic. People are more interested in reveling in a political rival's supporters squirming than what it means for the minorities who will be affected by the possibility of a Trump presidency. It's so childish.

Yeah, I have a totally different view on Trump speechs and promises , what you say to be elected is not what you will do when you are elected,at least here is how it works, he is selling really well a product that in my opinion will never reach the shelves.

He is leading the whole debate going from provocation to provocation, getting media space trying winning this way.
This has been done here by Berlusconi, i have already seen this whole game.

So in the end i think that he is not dangerous nearly as much as you think, and if elected will opt the usual political line.

You clearly do not know how the US political system is run and the current situation we are in. If Trump wins he has complete control of every check and balance we have in place. The Republican's will control the House, Senate, a majority of Governors, Supreme Court, and the Presidency. He will not have trouble passing any legislature he wants through. Also he is super stubborn about not being wrong, so he will try his damnedest to get what he has pledged to get done.

Fuck that.
I wouldn't treat my worst enemy the way Clinton backers shit on bernie supporters during the primary.
Being called sexist frat boys, racists, supporters of South American dictators and conspiracy nuts for even entertaining the idea that the DNC preferred Clinton to win.
Get in line you losers!

Johnson getting 9% will be a problem. My guess this is where some of the Bernie voters are going to go.

I've had friends from both sides or the aisle tell me that a vote for Johnson is a vote for Trump/Clinton...not sure how that math works out in both directions. =)

As someone who has told everyone not to get concerned until after the debates, I'm starting to get concerned. Yes, this should be the convention bump we were all waiting for, but at the same time it's incredible that he even got a convention bump from what was arguably one of the worst conventions in U.S. history. It continues to show that no matter how much Trump messes up, he doesn't lose any support. I've been banking on a disaster during the September debates to completely sink his campaign, but I'm slowly beginning to worry that no one will even care how badly he does.

Worst in what way? It's impossible for us to judge this rationally at the moment because of our political/emotional biases. Every time there's a debate people think the candidate from their side won and the opponent looked terrible. Same thing with conventions.

McCain was ahead after the Palin announcement and his convention. Everybody calm down, vote, and get your friends to vote.

It's not a confidence thing. I believe she will win, but the important thing is that people not panic about every little thing and miss the forest for the trees. It's hard in the thick of it. :)

^ like such
Regardless, it is still amazing that such a hateful person could be leading an election at this scale, even if only temporarily. It does mean that 44% of Americans, regardless of their inclination, are supporting a person who is both racist and sexist, and this isn't a single incident, but a history of these awful behaviors.

How does CNN, a major US news outlet from what I know, publicly release a poll where 18-34 year olds are basically N/A? Like, doesn't that mean your polling is a little unrepresentative of the United States of America considering the country doesn't only consist of baby boomers?

Well that clears things up a great deal.

I was worried for a second.

Well the first keynote speaker and possible future FLOTUS plagiarizing the current FLOTUS, an attempted coup, Ted Cruz throwing up both middle fingers at the RNC, and Trump basically giving the world's most boring Hitler impersonation for starters.

Fuck that.

Funny. I was a Bernie supporter and I was never treated that way. Maybe it was more due to attitudes like yours than being a Bernie supporter. And even if I was treated some kinda way, it would be irrelevant. It wouldn't stop me from doing what I could to prevent Trump from being president. A few over-zealous supporters on a message board wouldn't change that.

Give me a fucking break.

It was an objectively bad convention dominated by negative press.
Day 1 and 2: Press covered the plagiarism debacle
Day 3: Press covered the Cruz betrayal
Day 4: Press covered the terrifying Trump speech. Speech was not a disaster, but did not receive much praise either.

It was a bad convention, yet it seemed to further unify the party.

Overall I feel like Trump does a great job of selling "hate" and Hillary isn't very good at selling "hope".

Not only that, but the longer this campaign has gone on, the more it's reminded me of 2004, just amped up to the Nth degree.

That wasn't really a contest between Bush and Kerry. It was a contest between Bush and "not Bush." Kerry was so poor at defining his own image that few people were really voting for him on his own merits, but just as opposition to Bush. In the height of the Afghanistan/Iraq conflicts, the Dems thought they were being pragmatic by pushing a war veteran as their nominee, but the GOP basically dictated the narrative of the campaign and turned that perceived strength into a perceived weakness by calling his service into question with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and such.

2016 has started to give me similar vibes. No one is excited about Hillary Clinton, but Trump has a pretty enthusiastic base.

PSA: Do your part for GOTV this year. You really can't afford to take chances.

Trumpers don't give a shit about the first one and were emboldened by the second one.

And they like the Hitler stuff.

Well, that is to be expected. As much as Republicans may have been split beforehand, when it's clear he was going to be the nominee, they were going to back him. Even if a decent amount absolutely don't want him, they are going to unify overall against the other party.

This is about as condescending and pointless a remark as a conservative seeing a reverse poll and saying "minorities without college degrees eh? How shocking."

I agree, considering 2/3rds of the labor workforce (obv not all white) do not have college degrees and those seem to be the type of people that Trump hopes to swing in his favor.

WE'RE DOING IT GAFFERS

Gonna feel so good come November being able to say "WE DID IT GAFFERS" if Trump wins.

We're making history bois!!! Lets goooo!!!
Don't worry. We had faith your country would do the right thing. And you did. You passed Brexit.

Have faith we'll do the right thing. Trump will win with 51% if he needs to. But have faith in us.

We'll not only make "America great again!", we'll "Make the Earth great again."

LETS GO (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ ✧゚・: *ヽ(◕ヮ◕ヽ)
You give me a tiny sliver of hope that i won't be banned for openly supporting Trump like almost all of the others but then I wonder if you're just so over the top that you're just trolling. The name, avatar, quirky (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ ascii art combination makes me think you went so cartoonish that nobody takes it seriously so that's why....lol.

I've made like two political posts ever(? that i remember, it's been 6 years). Last one was about how i thought both candidates were poor options for us and how i was deciding between the two. The choice has been made and it's Trump. There's many reasons why and I'm willing to share if anyone curious? Before that i'd like to address the sentiment below (i just picked a random post about how he and all his supporters are racist and xenophobic, nothing specific to Guevara's post):

I'm also starting to suspect it's a honeypot to call Trump a racist.

It's so easy and so satisfying, and everyone hates racism, right? Let's just call Trump a racist, in louder and louder ways, from now until the election. Can't lose.

It's a trap. Unless he's caught with a klan hood in his suitcase, it will never catch up with him.
I really don't think he's racist...ANYMORE. I did research before making my choice and every 'documented' racist fact about DJT is min 20 years ago with most 30-40 years ago...in the 70s! I firmly believe people can change. DJT was born into being filthy rich and privileged. Notice how many of these types of people are out of touch with reality when they're younger...live in a bubble and many times tend to only hang out with their own race (usually white).

People change and I think he did. Those documented facts are literally decades ago. Now i realize people are reading this and doing the SMH and screaming at their monitor saying what about calling all Mexicans rapists and murderers and wanting to deport 11 million illegal immigrants? What about the Muslim ban?

1] He said many of the Mexican illegal immigrants that come over are of that ilk. He didn't say all Mexicans are or all Mexican illegal immigrants are. Nearly every time i see this recited it's a blanket statement instead of what he really said.

2] What about deporting 11 million illegal immigrants? Why support that? I'm frankly ok with this...mmy parents are from Italy, we're Sicilian, as italian as it gets and they came over here and emigrated legally. They've hard working Italian Americans for most of their lives that love the country. They've voted republican ever since while I've voted Kerry (sorry not Gore, Kerry)->Obama ->Obama and now ->Trump in November. I'm getting off track here...so why support the deportation of 11 million illegal immigrants? Because I would like the law to be upheld. Because I'm proud of the way my parents legally emigrated here, learned the language, learned and assimilated into American culture, and became incredible morally upstanding and tolerant Americans. I'm so proud of them. I don/t want the law to be ignored. I understand this mass deportation could have a horrible economic impact on the country but I haven't done research on this aspect of it yet. Willing to read an article or two if anyone has it handy?

3] What about the Muslim ban? Ok so this was a big one for me...it's so effing stupid and cartoonish that I couldn't believe he was being serious. The ban was the #1 reason I was holding back from supporting Trump. Not only is it NOT feasible logistically and accurately...(anyone can say they're not muslim. How does this make sense?) but it's also widespread racial profiling the likes the world hasn't seen in a long time.

So what changed? I didn't see a thread on it but a couple days ago Trump backtracked on the ban. He won't admit it's a backtrack because he's a stubborn jackass but he did. There's an invterview that plays on the cable news networks. Guess what? He also chose a VP in Mike Pence that publicly came out and said how ridiculous it was. I really think he wasn't serious about the ban the whole time...he kept trying to one up himself with the crazy attention grabbing headlines...this was during his snowballing period which began with the wall. Monkey throwing shit at the walls (in this case at the media) hoping to garner major headlines and getting support from the republicans who are racist and bigoted. We're seeing now it was all for those reasons and not legit. He backtracked and isn't going to have a ban and chose a VP who publicly condemned it. These past few days were a big turning point for me. I was legit undecided. I've typed enough for now and am hungry but will answer any questions.

I'm gonna be open with my support of Trump here from now on...and CIVIL, and try to be as reasoned as possible instead of drive by one liners. Hopefully the moderators can respect that and not give me a ring shattering F5 into the abyss. I dont post much these days so it's not like I'm gonna be in every thread but yeah. A lot of the things i've read here over the past few days calling all of us racists and bigots and xenophobes has made me extremely upset cussing at the screen...getting legit shook IRL (I really shouldve trademarked "legit shook" btw), but I waited to make this post till I calmed down and I'll continue to be calm and civil from here on. *deep breath* lol
