CNN: The Android that could crush the iPhone

I gotta say, the look of the phone combined with the video review has me wanting.

The phone just looks soo sleek.

and people keep saying "App Store" what are some of your everyday apps that can't be found elsewhere?

My AT&T account says I'm eligible for a "partial discount", does anyone know what that means for pricing on a phone like this?

IIRC that varies depending on how close you are (in months) to your full upgrade. I think you would need to call them to find out.

apps are so overrated anyway. All the apps you would actually use are everywhere.

The only apps I use on my iphone are facebook, google maps and flipboard. I download games and never play them. Web browsing is what I use the most.

Well if google would give me a check or credit to replace the apps I had on my iPhone I might consider an android phone. I mean why should I rebut all my app for a phone I probably don't want.

Wow your own experience is the same for everyone else. Sorry wrong. I use my Japanese language apps very often and I would not want a second rate replacement.

Do you have an ipad? You still get to use the apps there.

Like I said, on a phone, at least for me..apps are a non-issue. I would have no issuse switching to android for my phone and keep my ipad for the apple eco system. In a lot of ways, owning an iphone and an ipad is redundant.

As for everyday apps, I like Tweetbot and Vine. But it's not just about everyday apps. The Play Store still doesn't have Walking Dead, Year Walk, The Room, or Bastion.

Saw this phone today. Looks better in black, I have no idea why they use the white in all the marketing shots. Still an ugly phone regardless.

Now the Xperia Z. That phone looks like sex.

Year of the Android.

One of the rare Android phones that made me do a double take. It really looks awesome, can't wait to try it out.

Because both systems work the same way and there are no differences in how they are programmed or optimised? And because you are "entitled" to get apps because you can?

Yeah, I would TOTES move to an iPhone if they gave me all my apps I purchased on the Market for free, too!

Are you kidding me?

I already have an iPad but I do not carry it everywhere I go. And it's not redundant to own both least for me. I love reading books comics etc on my iPad. My iPhone and iPad complement each other in my view.

Stupidest thing I've ever read.
I don't see any other way I would even consider buying an android phone.

I'm not kidding anyone. That's just my requirement if I was going to switch to android and since it will never happen I don't see myself buying an android ever.

Gtfo. How can people be saying this? This is the best looking phone that I've ever seen next to the iPhone 5. The issue I have with the iPhones design is the screen size and the top and bottom bezel are too big. More of that should be screen and it needs to be wider. HTC's design is incredible, especially the inclusion of the superior double front speakers, which people won't value until they actually hear it. The problem with the One is that it's essentially unrepairable.

The play store doesn't have those games? That's not good.

I'm kind of tempted to get one. Got burned so bad with the EVO though, I'm wary of jumping in with HTC again.

I got burned with the Inspire. Locks ups ever couple of hours that can only be corrected by prying off the impossible battery hatch. Never again.

If only the camera was at least close to best-in-class on other than low-light situations. Would by this so hard. Now i'm waiting to see S4 reviews and maybe wait for the next Nexus phone.

I hate this phone. No matter what you did, it sucked. Custom ROMs made it a bit better, but you can't get rid of the suck.

Word up. It is ridiculous, and a shame.
I have an iPhone just for the neat games like these.

nah, i would have to disagree. the only place to get IRC apps that work properly with real multitasking is Android. and i'm sure that some people have some apps on iOS or WP or BB10 that they can't live without.

lol at the ugly comments. Some people have the worst taste.

There's not a single better looking phone on the market. If anyone even thinks of mentioning an iPhone 5 with its stupid screen dimension I'll arrange a point and laugh party.

How do you play that game with touch controls without going crazy is beyond me.

It's a buy with stock android (with nexus like update support) and a bigger battery. Better luck next time HTC.

Actually, one of my worst experiences on Android is with a pretty popular IRC client, AndChat. So, I'm on a Nexus S, I'm using AndChat, and I leave the app with the home button. It's still running in the background, of course - it shows in the notification tray, and it's in the multitask menu. So how do I completely close it? Do I:

A) Swipe away its notification that it's running in the background? Nope, that does nothing, the notification doesn't budge.

B) Go to the multitasking menu and swipe away its "card"? Nope, notification is still there and it's still running.

What I have to do is go back to the app, and hit the menu button - wait, no, the "exit" option isn't there on the menu if I'm currently viewing a chatroom. So I go back to the app, press the back button to get back to the main menu of AndChat, and then I can hit the menu button and choose exit to quit the app. Awful, awful design. Say what you want about iOS, but the way it's designed makes this kind of terrible behavior impossible.

That screen is fucking huge. I wonder if people who get such a large phone buy blue tooth headsets so they don't look retarded having a 5.5" screen covering their whole face.

The smartphone OS market is matured and saturated, I doubt any OS will make more than 10% market share difference in the next 3 years.

Fix your "Autopost.lol" script. This is an HTC One thread, not the Galaxy Note 2 (5.5" screen) thread.

N/M misread your post. You are probably right.

Huh? My Nexus 4 is already better.

Honestly, Android is so much more modern than iOS now in terms of functionality and ease of use once you get used to it. I'm okay with using iOS for my iPad mini since its mostly simple tasks and I don't use it as much as my phone. I cannot imagine using iOS for my phone, such an outdated OS.

I have the Droid 4 so my screen is relatively small. I think any smartphone whose screen is over 5" borders on ridiculousness.

I hope you never switch from Windows to OS X or Sony to Microsoft or vice versa then.

Well thats nice, but this phones screen isn't over 5".

I dunno man. I would put the vanilla Android above the One. But not much else. Vanilla countsd for a lot, but its starting to count for less and less these days the better the OEMs get at adding worthwhile software. The N4's camera and glass back irk me.

Also, what's with all that "it's still Android" posts? It makes me want to respond with a snarky one liner like "how's apple maps lolol" or something. Just to make iOS comparable to stock Android, you need to download a number of apps. They've even built Shazam-like functionality straight into Android's Google Search box

Noone bothers to respond to those posts seriously anymore. Android has been on a tear since 4.0. Its crazy.

This phone is freaking beautiful. If you have an issue with Sense you can get a launcher like Nova and get rid of it...mostly. Or root...but honestly it's so much less obtrusive in this version and I'm sure the average consumer will enjoy it.

The only really cool iOS feature I would like Android to emulate is iMessage, but it looks like that's already planned for the near future, with rumors pointing to an announcement at Google I/O about merging Talk, Voice, G+ Messenger/Hangouts and so on into a single messaging service that'll presumably also override and work in tandem with your phone's text messaging.

Has HTC stopped being terrible with updating to the latest Android revising?

Why did the Evo 4G LTE and 3D get updates to 4.0 but not my vanilla 4G?

=(((

Actually I have no idea lol. Only time will tell, but with only really one flagship and one mid range, it could improve.

Don't you crush my dreams!

Most people still think Android is on Gingerbread.

Personally want to get the One for my gf, she's on the Evo4G (WiMax lol). Going for the S4, on purely specs + multiwindow

The phone looks amazing especially for all the haters bagging on it.

Most people still think Android is on Gingerbread.

Uhh, most people are still on Gingerbread. By far my biggest gripe w/ Android. HTC One already ships with OUTDATED software.

Personally I just allow everyone to point and laugh for those rare times I actually use my phone as a phone. Not something I concern myself with.

I had a friend that thought his original Nexus was representative of modern Android about six months ago. "The iPhone 4s just seems to much better." Well no shit.

He was already pretty deep into Apple's ecosystem, though, so him eventually switching to iPhone was a good idea. He's always owned Macbooks, and only had a Nexus because the iPhone wasn't on Verizon at the time.

Edit:

Android on my Nexus 7 is SO MUCH BETTER than Android on my Evo 4G. Even voice search seems like night and day between the two OSes, with my Nexus 7 accurately picking up almost everything I say, while my Evo 4G is spotty as fuck.
