Co-op for Resident Evil Zero leaked from Capcom Network IDs

Recent: In a technical leak from "Capcom ID" (Capcom Network), programming code for the "Invite Friend for Co-op" feature was discovered, relating to the project codenamed "Chambers":
This confirms that the remake of "Zero" will, for the first time, allow online co-op play between Billy and Rebecca, whilst retaining the option for single-player gameplay and the ability to switch between them, as in the original version.

If I'm not mistaken, the original idea for RE0 was to be co-op, but it ended up being unfeasible, even moving from N64 to GameCube didn't make it work.

Considering that the best strategy for RE0 was leaving one of the characters in a safe room while going solo with the other, and that playing RE 5 with the AI-controlled partner is a nightmare but with two human players is a blast, maybe is not a bad idea.

Please no. Don't ruin it by adding online to the campaign Capcom
Is it possible to 'ruin' something that's already awful?

Adding coop to the game instead of going back to the failed experiment of character swapping is at least an attempt to improve the game...

I mean it will ruin the horror mood but multiplayer campaigns are always a lot of fun

There was no way 0 was going to get a remake without co-op and considering how RE9 completely wasted it's Outbreak connection I'll gladly take it since it's obvious Outbreak is never coming back.

The real question is if they plan on fixing the shitty story. They don't have the balls to do it with RE4 so I'm not holding my breath. Of course seeing what they came up with for the last couple RE games it probably wouldn't be much of an upgrade anyway.

Could be cool I guess, but I can already tell this wont be much of a horror entry.

I guess that basically confirms the RE5 remake will be coop. Unfortunate. I was hoping they'd rework it to be more of a solo Chris game and work Sheva more into a Luis role. I prefer my RE solitary.

coop is what ruined RE5 so i'm not excited. i hope they at least fixed the partner AI if you play it in singleplayer but i'm expecting a huge downgrade in terms of level design

When I was a kid any Resident Evil or Silent Hill game was an immediate pickup. I didn't dislike a RE game until RE6. So to be honest it is kinda hard for me to tell the older ones apart by quality. To me they are all great classic masterpieces. They are the original text, lol. Zero included.

This would make me more interested by default, as I hated the original, so the only way to get me to touch this is if I can play co-op with the wife on it.

They have had 17 years to work on it since RE 5's release.

Also when it comes to level design I don't think we are remembering the same game. A linear train with tons of locked doors, then a much inferior version of the mansion from 1, an inferior lab, and some sewers.

Graphically RE 0 looked fantastic but it had to sacrifice some of it's level design for it's odd 'no item box' mechanic.

Hello, is there anybody home?

By having to play with a npc constantly following you all the time maybe?

Reading comprehension obviously isn't.

Yeah, but that was at the time where developers started thinking any game that wasn't online was seen as inferior.

That's why we got single-player franchises to start getting worse with games like Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6 and Dead Space 3. Not to mention all the resources used for crappy tacked-on multiplayer modes for games that didn't need it - Assassin's Creed, BioShock, Mass Effect, Uncharted, etc.

yeah, fuck this. I want to play both characters and solve the puzzles by myself.

Edit: SP will be the same, everything good.

You don't understand it

If they are indeed remaking Re Zero, I dont want an AI partner following me all the time. In the original you have an npc following you the majority of the game. I don't want them to do that.

Capcom have made my favourite co-op games - Lost Planet 2, Monster Hunter, Resi 5 - even Resi 6!
So I am all for this, and I am excited for it!

it's weird that they didn't have a hidden coop mode tho, like DMC3 did.

after all you can manually move both characters, just map the actions of the second character to the second controller port 🤷
would it have been good? no, but a fun little easteregg.

doing the hidden coop thing in DMC3 was fun.

Options are always good. So long as the ability to play yourself with both characters and the ability to have one of them wait in a safe area is preserved, I welcome Co-Op. Hopefully split-screen is included so I can play with my girlfriend.

As someone else mentioned it, it's also an opportunity to exercise AI partner code and have that shining for RE5 remake. Although for 5 I was hoping they went the Dead Space 3 route and only have the partner around if someone is actually playing with you. Otherwise, have Sheva be with Josh or whomever.

The first thing this tells me is that the original's story, where you have one character out of action for stretches of time, won't happen in the remake.

I'm fine with them adding Co-op as long as the game also still functions exactly as it did originally in other words single player with real-time character swapping. I don't want it to impact that fundamental mechanic of the game, otherwise I'm all for it.

i want full retard deluxe local coop

special glasses that make it so you cant see the other player's screen.
two noise cancelling headphones with walkie talkie feature.

IMO would ruin the point of the original game if they made RE0 co-op. The management of two characters who had different uses in both certain areas and in combat is what made RE0 fun.

RE0 isn't like 5 or 6 where you have these shitty point a to point b levels that both characters can explore most of filled with combat arenas. And they want to reduce 0 to that?

It's exactly what it always needed, swapping characters and letting the AI waste all your ammo when you had to advance in some other place was one of the most annoying things about the game + the absurd item management

RE5 co-op to this day is top tier

they'd still have to change a lot or dumb it down even further. you can't just leave billy stuck in a single room for 10 minutes while searching for the key for it as rebecca for example if billy is controlled by another player.
