Cobra Kai coming to netflix

We are so proud of Cobra Kai and are overwhelmed by the massive fan response to the series,” Jeff Frost, President of Sony Pictures Television, said in a statement. “Josh, Jon, Hayden, Ralph, William and the entire cast have done such a brilliant job with this sensational series and the huge audience reaction and sentiment for it is a testament to that. We are very thankful to our partners at Netflix and couldn’t be more elated that they have become the new home for this epic saga.” Sorry if old?

Cool.

What's the tone of Cobra Kai?

Is it similar to the movie? Extra comical? Extra serious like a drama?

These aren't 20 year olds anymore. The main stars are what? 50?

I remember enjoying the first episode as a free trial. Completely forgot about it after that. Had no intention of subscribing to a paid YouTube. Pretty sure I’ll watch the rest if it all comes to Netflix.

It's a solid show that generally gets better as episodes tick over. In terms of tone and style its got the basic heart of the 1st and 2nd KK movies with bits of action/encounters in there. Little rivalries show up and it essentially hams up the current day vs the KK era quite well. Johnny/New Johnny are the key characters and actors to the show working so well.

Danny is a local celebrity with a successful business, Johnny has had a hard life but he's looking at getting back on top. Really though, it's about the kids. I'd say the tone is closer to something like Stranger Things, outside of that show's horror elements. It's a drama, but not overly serious. Personally, I think it's really well written.

I liked the 1st season as well. Haven't seen the 2nd one but the characters feel human and William Zabka literally carried the show.

William Zapka and Ralph Maccio basically carry the entire show. They are amazing especially William. The teen cast is cringe as hell. It's like the movie, comical and dramatic and all of those are coming from William. Why did I not see him more often in stuff?

Personally, one of my favourite shows of recent times. A true hidden gem.

The opening where Johnny discovers the internet is just so brilliant - and contrast that to the episode where the cobras have a reunion? I don’t know how you write something with that range, while hitting the beats dead on.

Cannot recommend it enough.

I didn’t care about it.... youtube originals ?

Karate kid was my childhood movie so no way I would watch this shit.
I’m ok with the Jackie Chan version because is not Miyagi and Daniel story. The new one is pretty good imo.

Now, I saw this ...

Cobra Kai is DAMN GOOD!!!!

My wife even watched Karate kid 1984 yesterday night because of the drama.

Good Job YouTube!

I absolutely loved it and funny thing, even my wife liked it and she's too young to remember the films (though she has watched them with me because I make her watch my old fart stuff). I like that it takes the piss out of both camps, the young somewhat woke kids and the adults who don't really get it, and the thing is it does that while being funny and sweet and full of action, honestly it's such a brilliant show, and weirdly it feels like it has some of that optimistic enthusiastic energy that carried much of what made the 80s great. I've missed that in modern TV. Anyone who isn't watching it should be.

Watched both seasons this weekend. It was really great. But I especially liked the first season.

Second season became a bit soap operaish. But it still had many great moments.

No idea where they will go in season 3. But I looking forward to it!

Love how it acknowledges but doesn't pander to woke culture in the best way possible. Hilarious.

Yeah tbh it treads a line that I'd like to see far more shows do - it treats us as grown-ups.

2nd season was unfortunately a massive disappointment after the sensational first. Not sure there’s more to give

Fantastic show, I laughed so hard at this bit

We are lucky that the show wasn't mob harassed for this scene...

I don't know how reeeee can let this fly, they love the serial over there :ROFLMAO:

Johnny is a fucking treasure.

The way I see it, the show is quite clever. It has those woke elements and takes the piss out of them, but does it mostly through Johnny, and well Ree probably think he's the bad guy, but honestly the views he has are pretty consistent with what you might expect for a guy who is where he is in life (at the start at least - obviously he works his way to better things). To them, a bad guy doing those things is ok because they think it's part of his evilness, and yet to the rest of us it's part of his character and he's a relatable guy, someone who's had some knocks, had his shit very much not together but is taking full advantage of the Volumetric Shit Compressor (copyright Disco Elysium). It's a tricky line to walk and at some point they'll fall from the tightrope, but while they're there it's glorious.

Dude you gave too much credit to the harassing mob, they don't have these articulate thoughts most of the times, they just probably didn't focused on that scene :ROFLMAO:

Sometimes it's nice to assume the other side is sentient, even ree.

That's nice, i too sometimes think that my dog sniff other dog's assholes for a more deep reason than just animal instinct...then he just look to me with that dumbfounded expression on his face and i know what the truth really is.

just finished seasoned 1 and it's pretty good so far. i don't care for the love triangle angle, i always find them to predictable and cringy. but, eh, they needed some kind of plot device in their so whatever... looking forward to season 2

I love everything about this show so far.

The rivalry is nostalgic, and every Johnny Lawrence speech is simply badass.

About to start season 2.

not gonna lie... this show can be cringy cheesy at times :messenger_grimmacing_ . just the whole concept is so ridiculous to begin with lol. im reeeaaaalllly having to suspend disbelief with this show, but its still pretty good so ill hang in there.

This is still my go to example of how a late sequel should be done.

* respecting the characters while putting a few twists on them that do not destroy them

and

* respecting the old audience while building a connection to a new one (kids of today).

If I had any control over how Lucasfilm is run, I would show them Cobra Kai at least ten times in a row, so they might get it how it's done.

The whole being old and stuck in the past is a major part of the series. I goes from serious to tongue in cheek , cheese fest to dramatically hamfisted to really moving . I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This show has no right being as awesome as it should be. but it is. I fucking love this show.

I would agree with you but some of the teen drama really grates... wait shit I was a teen I watch the originally. Shit it’s come full circle you know what screw it you’re completely correct on all you posted.

also Dark Star Dark Star you’re damn right don’t be a pussy. Johnny is rad he was still banging babes all the time.

I do love the whole aspect of Johnny and Daniel not having moved on at all since the 80’s Daniel is loving the life but he still wants the glory days.

Watched the first ep last night and was in love.

I'm the right age as all the music and film clips were right up my alley. Really really looking forward to the rest of the show, hope to get season 1 done before The Boys at least.

Netflix.... More of this please and less woke teen dwama! At this point Cobra Kai and the Witcher are about the only things left on Netflix that I really care about, maybe Stranger Things if season4 gets back on track.
