Coded Arms trailer

Konami finally got around to putting up the full E3 trailer

Looks really good. IGN seemed to really like it at E3 also

So far it looks great, it feels solid, and the multiplayer is drop-dead awesome. You think you know first-person shooters? Wait till you try Coded Arms. Multiplayer rocks the PSP like almost no other game on the system has.

The only thing to really get used to in Coded Arms is the controls. This isn't a PC, or a console controller, so understandably sacrifices had to be made to accommodate a functional handheld control scheme. The face buttons control which way your character looks, while the analog nub controls where he walks. Once you adapt, they're completely functional in multiplayer. If you can't use the default settings, you can change them to whatever you want them to be. The only thing is that the default setting are the most comfortable choice.

There are over 30 weapons in this game. You'll get assault rifles, sniper rifles, pulse weapons and rocket launchers. There are five worlds to explore, all of which look simply amazing. The detail of the textures is more than I was willing to expect from a PSP game. It's runs smooth, even with a lot of action going on at the same time. When you shoot a wall, there's a brief residual glow that spills over it in a cool electric pattern. The Japanese really know how to embellish on mechanical designs and aesthetics and Coded Arms is a testament to that.

The overall load times on this game have been tightened up tremendously. With a huge variety of baddies to fight -- aliens, bugs, and vicious robots -- and an incredibly detailed environment to run around in, I'm eagerly waiting to get a hold of a finished copy of this. I really want to play this game all the way through. Coded Arms is still scheduled to release on June 28, 2005 in the U.S., I just hope Konami sticks to it.

Cool "electric pattern" when you shoot at a wall, yes.

Fun game, not really. It feels like a very uninspired FPS that noone would ever care about had it been released for PC.

Didn't mind the controls or weapons, but man, playing this at E3, the levels bored me to tears. So much brown and gray, so many cubic things, so many flat walls... and no life except elevators and enemies. Made me feel like it was a Rengoku FPS with larger enemies...

I actually liked Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex for PSP more... same controls, levels are more interesting -- and you have a little Tachikoma tank dude following you around shooting at things.

I feel that it's abit unfair to be comparing a PSP title to PC FPS gaming.

Just making a point that people care about this game only because it's for PSP. It was such a tedious game at E3 IMO, I think partly because of the setting and the enemies.

I didn't care much for GITS SAC either, but at least it's based on a series I like...and Tachikoma is always a plus. :D

Aiming = Digital controls
Walking = Analog Controls

makes perfect sense

This one looks promising. If it comes out okay I'll have all of two games to enjoy on my PSP... (this and Acid.)

*strumming fingers on desk, waiting for the turn-based RPGs or a version of Culdcept to hit the PSP.*

what the FUCK? wait--now that I think about it...I don't understand what the point of your post was... =\

he's basically just pointing out that the controls can be configured, so if you hate the default controls you can change them

Yeah...I know that...just wasn't enthusiatic enough to admit that I only read up to the specific line that I quoted before loosing all interest in the rest...I guess it's good that you can swap the controls but using the NUB in any way isn't exactly a good thing...unless you can use the D-Pad in which case I'll have to jump on the bandwagon and resort to feigning a newfound lack of interest due to classic and original excuses such as the game looking 'uninspired,' 'too brown' and ' repetitive.'
