Colin Moriarty is leaving Kinda Funny Games.

He's seemed disinterested in gaming nearly since KF started. Game after game would come out and he'd say "Spent a little time with it, wasn't for me", or, "I don't have time to play games". Not exactly something that I found enjoyable to watch, he almost makes me feel guilty about being a video game fanatic. I love the rest of the crew though, and I hope Tim can fill the void, he at least brings interest and enthusiasm into the show.

You could see it in today's gamescast, where Tim and Greg have been so excited about Zelda, then Colin sums the game up in 40 seconds with his usual lack of interest. I hope with him gone they can spend more time talking about games that have come out instead of hyping up a game and then dismissing it immediately after it comes out.
Tim's not very knowledgeable though. I think he is fine as a rotating third chair once every 2/3 weeks, but I don't really want him as the main PSILY dude on as Greg's partner. He's gotten a lot better and I enjoy his discussions though. I think Clements or someone of that mold would be nice to have for KF for the foreseeable future to replace Colin.

Im tottally with you. I am 30 and I can't understand why if you don't agree with me on social media you are a devil and a evil person. Social media is a cancer to society. I vote liberal/ndp up here in Canada. However, I can have a civil discussion with right leaning people. Not everything is black and white or equal like the social media culture wants to make it out to be. There is just so much hate spewed.
This is mostly an American and online issue (ie someone has other views and there's no inbetween for example). It's why the poltical topics when I jump and see time from time are the worst on gaf by a mile. Level of cringe, double standard, and overall mental gymnastics are always on high alert. I'm the same way as you. Several people here in my office are also in very different spectrums.. two of them being fans of Trump, one guy doesn't believe in global warming and thinks it's hoax etc lol... but he is a nice guy and there's no ill will there.

To be fair my post was pure outrage sure. Lol I can laugh at it a couple minutes later. People calling me out on it, ok you got me.

But I will say this, yes many of you are correct. It wasn't just the one joke. It's been a slow build up over months and maybe years of Colin being Colin and pissing people off or rubbing people the right way. Whether it was Colin constantly stating his pov as fact or stating it in a manner that was absolute. Or Colin stealth bragging about his developer friends and industry insider knowledge.

His abrasiveness in certain podcasts or his need to constantly dissent against a popular opinion, very devil's advocate like. His body language in some podcasts where he just seemed out of it. How flippant he could be about certain issues.

I get all that. None of it, none of it turned me away from him for years. For years I read, or heard this guy's stuff. It finally came to a head after the election and his tasteless and flippant tweet. A rub it in your face type tweet, an I told you so if you will. Clinton lost, Trump won and sure I was salty. Rubbed me the wrong way.

But even before I railed against him, people had something against this guy. On the PS I Love You thread, many will tell you. The level of toxicity aimed at this guy was like wtf.

Seeing folks on here posting stuff like good riddance and then that post I quoted with misinformation kinda got me mad..big mad btw. Lol.

I liked his and Greg's stuff when they were at IGN. I think it was called "beyond" or something. No idea about any of their personal politics and I haven't followed Kinda Funny. Seems like he was a pretty polarizing figure.

I'm not sure what's so horrible about Colin outside of not enjoying his troll tweets, or not liking his attitude. He was a moderate republican until he left the party because of them getting behind Trump, he hates Trump as much as any liberal. He has the same stance on science and social issues as liberals, so why the hate?

He did before the election. Ever since he's been backing trump as hard as he possibly can without saying "Donald Trump is great!" He just pretends he's attacking 'liberals' disagreeing with trump, not supporting trump. Kinda like Palmer Luckey said he wasn't supporting trump, just attacking Hillary.

Honestly I can't see how anyone can get that upset about the joke tweet, also if they even knew anything about Colin he loves and respects his girlfriend and his sister played a massive role in bringing him up. I wonder if at 34 I'm just out of touch with the outrage culture and I'm a labour voting NHS loving left leaning lover of people.

There it is. "I'm not a racist, I voted for Obama!"

Good for him, he doesn't belong there anyway.

A silly joke and everyone gets bent out of shape. I'd have left to with how Greg came out against him, demonstrating how much of a joke he is

People that are offended by something so silly don't deserve to have a platform.

Now you know how I feel about the entire Colin hate for one tweet.

It's cute to try and pretend this happened because of one tweet. It happened because of a long history of making offensive political comments like this. Over and and over. That tweet was just the final straw in his ability to have a viable career in the industry. He should have learned his lesson LOOOONG before that tweet.

Not to derail the thread, but I don't believe that's always the case. What if the game in question is a historical setting? Say for example, there's a game about D-Day. Diversity for diversity's sake entails that you throw in some female soldiers. But, if the game is going for historical accuracy, wouldn't the inclusion of these groups hurt that? Saying you don't want female soldiers in your historically accurate D-Day game doesn't make you sexist.
Loads of women took part in WWII. America was one of the few countries that banned then from front line warfare and they took part in many many other aspects of war. Historical accuracy claims are nearly always borne out of ignorance rather than actual historical accuracy. That's not even talking about how most "historically accurate" games take huge liberties is multiple parts of their games. If you're going to play historical accuracy, everything should be historically accurate and not what you deem important to be historically accurate, like removing diversification.

A dumb joke intended to troll certain people on a specific day and when he got the reactions he was looking for, he doubled down and called them humourless shitbags.

But it's OK, because it's just a joke right?

Literally the podcast before this BS had him talking at great lengths about how amazing it is to play as a strong female lead in Horizon and how she is not objectified in any way.

But unfortunately people don't like to talk about that. Just the one joke. That one single joke.

Not to dog pile, but allow me to dog pile here.

I've never been a fan of Colin. His game insight and enthusiasm was pretty shallow or non existent.
From a political standing, I can't stand it when people don't understand the need for taxes and government but expect all of the benefits. Like health research just magically happens. Or going to the moon is just like going to the beach. Oh how about having a military that you like to gloat about, but one which you never served in.

Quit listening to PS I Love U after his anti PS4 Pro stance and when he quit gaf over criticism of it. I may have to start listening again.

Tim's not very knowledgeable though. I think he is fine as a rotating third chair once every 2/3 weeks, but I don't really want him as the main PSILY dude on as Greg's partner. Yeah, you need someone w/ a depth of knowledge to replace Colin. I love Greg but he's really just the ring master on PS I love you, he helps set the structure and give his own impressions, but Colin has always been the base of the in depth discussion. Clements would be great, always loved him on Beyond, but since he works for PS Blog now I don't see how that'd be possible.

Colin is awesome, i don't mind about his views about politics, i agree/disagree with a lot of them, the fact that you can talk to him about them in insighful way is what makes him great. I completely respect that.

Hopefull he's not leaving the games press althought sounds like it.

You are a perfect example of many Gaffers on here. Don't know shit, don't read shit but decides to make a post that comes out his/her ass. Doo Doo butter for everyone and for free.

That image that has been floating around of the Twitter account "I Stand with Colin M" and the Gadsden flag isn't Colin's official account but some fan. We know Colin's account is notaxation. You are a prime example of not just Gaffers but of the internet as a whole. Read a snippet, decides to have an opinion based on very little info and decided to open their mouth and spew Doo Doo butter.

I get that Colin is abrasive, arrogant, smug and I disliked him towards the end for all those reasons. But I've been listening to this guy since I was 18. 9 fucking year now. It's an end of an era and for us fans of Colin (and I know you're out there) don't be afraid to come out and state it for fear of reprisal from other Gaffers, fuck that.

I won't let his legacy on the gaming industry (games press and games personality) side be soiled by a stupid, tasteless joke he made. That I could have made myself on any day of the week. That my dad could have made, anyone could have done it. Some will say it wasn't the joke and that it was Colin overall and his attitude but people, especially on this forum have wanted his head for months now. Now you have it.

hahahahahahahaha

You're not wrong about representing people honestly, there is nothing more annoying that spreading fake tweets or complete misinformation.

The rest of your post is emotional but fair enough, I was upset when 1UP broke up. Fricking loved that podcast (yes, even Sony-Shane, as there was a charm to some of his madness). While I haven't followed IGN/KF as much, it can feel like friends calling it quits. In the case of the people, obviously they are friends, so anyone shaming the KF crew for being sad Colin is going need to get a grip. He's worked with them for ages, and they truly know what his person is like.

You cant be serious.... This has to be bait.

This isn't just about a single tweet though. He has a long history of being shitty and even claimed to go about it better after an apology before, which clearly didn't result in anything.

I don't agree with the dumb joke he made, but that's all it was. A dumb joke. I loved the back-and-forth between him and Greg. I don't agree with everything he says, but to see this happen over nothing more than an eye-rolling tweet is sad.

This is really over that tweet that his own girlfriend wasn't even offended by?

Is it the hashtag that offended people? Or the fact that he was excited by spending a day alone?

Edit. Ah he tweeted that on International Womens Day.

People ought to stop to make it about a single joke. But who am I kidding nothing new for a certain group of people to push certain narrative distracting about actual events. Alternative facts was it, wasn't it?

So I don't follow Colin on twitter but this is an example where I feel like you can read different ways this depending upon the context. I don't think saying Bannon is "smart" is necessarily an endorsement of his politics. Clearly he is smart in some evil genius type of way.

From what I have gathered on PS I Love You, Colin was not a fan of Trump, but perhaps I was wrong...I don't feel the need to hold water for Colin honestly haha
It wasn't an endorsement and he's not a fan of Trump. People who really watched their content and have followed Colin know this.

I was shocked it took this long, given how outspoken Colin has been for a good while now and by contrast how silent the rest of the crew has been in the wake of the rather controversial discussions that erupt.

Even as someone that rarely paid any attention to KF or them on IGN, I feel I couldn't escape hearing about whatever has riled the internet on his twitter feed or show. I would have suspected that Greg and the rest would perk up in saying something if they stood by their colleague, but the silence was deafening and I suspect this rift really was a long time coming.

Or maybe they did speak up and I was just unaware.

Fuck it, go for broke and see if Sessler ain't doing nothing.

Go for the exact polar opposite of Colin.
Sessler is the complete opposite of Colin. He is very pro-diversity, very pro-womens rights, and is far from right wing as it gets.

He would be perfect and a far better fit for this than Colin and his crazy anti-diversity toxic mindset was.

I know women took part in WW2, I only mentioned D-Day, not the entire war. All I'm saying is it's not fair to brand someone a sexist or a bigot just because they didn't include a minority or female in their game.
