Colin Moriarty is leaving Kinda Funny Games.

He had a overtly aggressive tone that I didnt like when I tried to watch KFG a couple of time.

This was my observation as well. Once I saw some of his old GAF posts and general attitude/politics, it wasn't difficult for me to ignore KF entirely. Though I always thought Greg seemed like a cool guy when I saw him on some of the post E3 (I think) Giantbomb coverage. I'll probably give them another shot.

oh ffs

I dig it bro. You're gonna die on this "it ain't about the single tweet" hill. Stupid cuz I don't know what minds you'll be changing but I respect you for it.

Greg is pissed at the Polygon article

(Shocker, Polygon post shit again)
What article? If it's the one I'm seeing, I'm not sure why he would have any reason to be pissed. It's pretty factual and to-the-point without much editorializing. Kotaku posted a nearly identical article, is he pissed at them, too?

I'm gonna miss his delusional views on the games industry. I mean it. The sole reason I'm a KF subscriber is to hear Colin's crazy opinions, even if I disagree with most of it. Now that's he's gone I'll certainly unsub as I have zero interest in what Greg and especially Tim have to say.

Seems weird that he's moving away from working with games, he has always seemed very passionated about them.

Lol Greg realizing that the Polygon headline is actually true. "We can say that the Polygon article is factually wrong..."

"Kinda Funny co-founder Colin Moriarty quits after sexist tweet."

"Oh well that is actually what happened."

His point is that yea, chronologically, Colin quit after he sent the tweet. However, the implication that he quit because of the tweet controversy is garbage.

I remember him from ign and he always seemed like a really dull, boring person. Maybe because he was losing interest in gaming idk. good luck to him though if he wants to do other things.

I don't think that's accurate. When did Colin start coming on Beyond... around episode 90 I think?

Basically, this past week, Colin tweeted out something sexist on International Women's Day. Lots of people, including former IGN co-workers, called Colin out. Colin's attracted a lot of alt-right supporters over the past year, who started saying toxic things. Someone asked Tim Getty's if this is the audience he wants, which Tim tweeted back that it wasn't. Colin said something rude about anyone who was offended by the "joke". Things blew up. Colin's girlfriend was rude to some IGNers. Colin decided not to go to PAX and Greg tweeted an apology. Colin then tweeted that he was a martyr for liberty, and kept poking the flames.
This is all after getting in public arguments in the past few months with Max Scoville, Bob Mackey, and Justin Davis, among others.

EDIT: I should also mention Colin never disavowed the alt-right supporters.

He also just went on Glenn Beck's show to play the martyr and victim

Also, can we talk about the joke that started this shitstorm for a second?

Not only was it offensive, it's a tired, played-out stereotype that sitcom's have relied on since the goddamn 1950's. "HUEHUEHUE WOMEN TALK A LOT!" So he's both sexist and horribly unfunny.

I really like Greg.

People can feel however they want about Colin. It's their right. I personally enjoyed his stuff, but I get why people don't or wouldn't.

However, the one thing about society today that I hate is the "attack" mentality people have. When someone does or says something stupid, it's not enough to just scold them. People have to destroy them. Mercilessly. They wanna taste blood. Getting reprimanded is no longer just enough, people want to see their lives ripped apart piece by piece until nothing is left.

Since that tweet Colin put out, his apology wasn't enough. The amount of viciousness I saw about the guy is way over the top. It's out of control, man, and it's a shame.

Colin was agenda-driven at times, stubborn, and irritating at times, but I think he was a genuinely good dude. He was flawed like anyone else, and I think this is a shame. Got no hate in my heart for the guy. Wish him the best.

perhaps i missed it, but where was colin's apology?

Greg realized during his rant the headline was actually pretty accurate lol

I don't think I have seen a post that I agree with more on this website.

Same. Colin was an asshole due to his shitty political views, Greg was a smug dick when it came to many of his game views. Colin was far worse but I sitll ain't watching that shit while Greg is around. How one of the best examples of shitty IGN journalism managed to attract a following is way beyond me.

So sad he is leaving he's a smart insightful guy. The absolutely annoying response to his completely run off the mill joke on twitter is absurd. I say shit like that about my girlfriend all the time and she says it about me.

If another famous female personality said, "ah great, no men to stink up the place" or something no one would bat an eye. As it should be because it is a random harmless joke.

I am unsubscribing from Kinda Funny. Tim is awesome but really not too much incentive to watch that channel anymore.

Neogaf displaying its typical bigoted behavior as expected.

P R I V I L E G E

His tweet really was not sexist at all.

What's not sexist about blatantly implying that a day without women will be quieter/more peaceful than a day with them? You realize that directly plays off of a sexist stereotype (women are nags, henhouses, complain all the time, etc.), right?

EDIT: this:

Also, can we talk about the joke that started this shitstorm for a second?

Sessler is the complete opposite of Colin. He is very pro-diversity, very pro-womens rights, and is far from right wing as it gets.

He would be perfect and a far better fit for this than Colin and his crazy anti-diversity toxic mindset was.

What is this? Anti-diversity mindset? All he does is praise the diversity of Horizon for example. This terrible pervading mindset to hate on everything about the guy because he may be right wing is revolting.

Kinda Funny will take a huge hit because of his departure, and while that is not a good thing all the bigoted negativity in Neogaf is thankfully not representative of the populace.

That is not what clickbait is. "You won't believe why Colian Moriarty quit Kinda Funny!" would be clickbait because it would make you click on the article now because you want to know more about the subject that has been shortly described in the headline but instead because you want to knoww hat the subject even it. Call it misleading (even though it's not). But "clickbait" is such an inredibly overused, meaningless word at this point.

Clickbait is when the article does not deliver on the promise of the title. The title makes the implication that Colin quit because of the tweet fallout. That is not true. Clickbait.

Ha of course they will drop.

The only reason I listened to KF was for Colin I am sure other subs will feel the same

They will also rise the only reason I stopped listening was because of Colin and I'm sure other people feel the same.
Also if the drop will stay at a 1000 it would give me quite a bit more faith in humanity.

How is commenting on a college being smashed up supporting that individual? Clearly there are better ways to release anger and frustration. Fucking hell people.
Giving him a stage is giving him a pass. Allowing him to be normalised is giving him a pass. Allowing him to influence people is giving him a pass. Fucking hell people.

Yeah, he'll need to forgive me for not reading through 22 pages. The post I quoted was on the 3rd page or so.

I don't follow KF at all. I only know those guys as ex-IGN staff. I also initially didn't know about that tweet or when it was made. It wasn't until later I read the polygon article tha pointed out when it was made and then edited my post.

I used to like Colin when he was part of Podcast Beyond. But for the last year, he just seems pessimistic when it comes to videogames. It's great to see him move on to something new.

are u a cis straight white dude perchance

While I didn't agree with a ton of what Colin said on GoG often, it usually brought a nice sense of grounding a lot of the episodes. I really enjoyed how he challenged the other guys and I'm really bummed to see him leaving. Hope he does great things moving forward.

This is really over that tweet that his own girlfriend wasn't even offended by?

Is it the hashtag that offended people? Or the fact that he was excited by spending a day alone?

Edit. Ah he tweeted that on International Womens Day.

It's not just the tweet. It's the overall hate for him because he has a different view point then most of gamers. That's the real reason he gets hated on and people are celebrating him leaving. People in general don't like hearing others opinions especially if they are totally different then their own. Colin is very outspoken and people don't like that. If he was a socialist left winger he would be cheered from the roof tops.

There are things I agree with and lots of stuff I disagreed with. However, he was the best thing about kinda funny. He actually brought discussions and not the pointless crap the others would bring in there game over greggy show.

I love Colin, he was always my favourite KF member. Hopefully he sets up his own Youtube channel and at least has a series about gaming (retro NES and SNES gaming would be great).

I used to really like Colin. He was my favorite part of KF and podcast Beyond. But lately something changed in him. Over the last few months he has grown angrier and even more pessimistic. Almost everything he has said lately has been a downer. I stopped listening to PSILY about a month ago because I just didn't want to hear Colin anymore. I'm sad to see him go downhill like this. It was the right choice for him to leave. I don't think he was happy anymore and he didn't fit in with the rest of KF like he used to.

This is true.

As opposed to dying on the "I will not let Colin Moriarty's legacy be sullied!" hill?

Lots of people on here seem to have an axe to grind against him.

Colin made shitty tweets, he is also someone that lots of people, including me, have listened to for the better part of a decade. I can both not like his shitty trolling, and be a big fan of his body of work.

You guys read his history of Naughty Dog? I wish more people in this industry did work like that.
