Colin Moriarty is leaving Kinda Funny Games.

While I didn't agree with most of his politics, I admired how honest he was about his anxiety problems.

But otherwise, I didn't love his attitude toward topics he wasn't particularly interested in and toward his colleagues.

If you have been reading the side bar you can tell some of these people are not fans. I'm not talking about the angry and emotional fans, that's understandable.

Doesn't really make any difference does it? Everyone is allowed to share opinions and respond to opinions.

Lol

I wonder what was going on behind the scenes. This can't all be as a result of that unfunny tweet, although I do believe that much too much was made of it.

It seems real simple really. Colin is leaning harder and harder into political topics, even as they relate the gaming, the rest of the crew just want to bullshit and talk about games and not have to constantly answer questions about what stupid shit Colin said this week. It was a bad fit. Colin's twitter fuckery just made that all the more apparent. Whether you approve or not of Colin's antics, this is probably best for everyone involved.

How can they argue that the tweet on Mars 8 was not part of this? just read the responses he got to the tweet from IGN personell and the other guys at kinda funny, and how erin responded to them. The tweet conflict clearly accelerated his departure.
The Tweet alone wouldn't lead to this, it's his behavior over the last year, his mounting political pundit aspirations, and his general behavior towards their own community/negativity.

Unbelievable. Colin is my favorite part of kinda funny and has been my favorite voice in the industry since Beyond. The amount of hyperbolic rhetoric I've seen on Neogaf and elsewhere has been ridiculous.

I think Greg just spoiled on the stream that Colin is going to break off to do a political show in the vein of Colin Was Right following this move?

Who is going to watch Colin Moriarty with regards to politics? He's going to dwindle into obscurity if he goes this route.

I literally said what he believes can harm me in real life. Do better.

You didn't explain how. What particular beliefs of his? Sorry but you literally have to do better first for me to counter what you say. Actually make a case. Or don't, not really expecting much.

The tweet may have been a catalyst but this was going to happen soon one way or another. There's no way to know their internal discussions at KF so we really don't know exactly how it went down.

Wow, I didn't even know any of this was going on! I only found out after clicking on this thread when I saw that Colin was leaving KF.

The real question now is what does Kinda Funny do. Colin leaving means that they basically lost 2 pieces of content, PS I Love You & Colin Was Right. They need somebody that can talk video games seriously cause just Greg & Tim won't cut it. I watched the gamescast with just Greg & Tim about the Switch and it was lacking.

No its been justified. He keeps doing it to himself. This is a good thing for everyone.

he would anyway with his attitude.

Um... agree or disagree, there are a lot of people who are interested in what he has to say about politics. I think if he goes this route he will be incredibly successful, like him or not.

Colin was an excellent games commentator and historian. I always enjoyed hearing (but rarely, if ever, agreed with) his political views as a sort of side note in things like Conversations with Colin, Colin Was Right, etc.

But once these two things started colliding and he started holding himself out as some savior of free speech and "creativity" in games because he was brave enough to say white men can have opinions too, I couldn't stand him. Like many have said on this thread, he was always advocating for free speech, listening to different opinions, and having "civil" (my god how I hate how people use that word) conversations about politics, but never hesitated to drag anyone who had the gall to express dissatisfaction with representation in video games or dare to venture into the realm of identity politics (see the most recent episode of PS I Love You, where he spends half the time yelling about how stupid and childish a Native woman is for starting a conversation around the use of certain historically oppressive words in Horizon: Zero Dawn).

The first video game podcast I ever listened to was the Podcast Beyond episode recorded after their first live show (back when it was Greg, Colin, and Ryan). I remember Colin talking about how humbled he was by all of these strangers being so happy to see him in person. Now Colin goes on the Rubin Report and Glenn Beck. Now he spends time on his podcast (albeit humorously) discussing whether he is one of the most famous people to come from Long Island. Colin Was Right used to be a self-deprecating inside joke, but now it's turned into a single-minded worldview.

I'll miss hearing Colin's commentary on everything Playstation, his interest in the history of games, and his chemistry with Greg. I'll even miss his obsession with sales numbers and general know-it-all attitude relating to video game industry business decisions. I won't miss his negativity and constant crying over the opinions of "PC Police" or "SJWs." I'm sad that Colin is gone, but I'm happy to see him leave.

Well put. I share very similar sentiments.

#NoToleranceforIntolerance

Literally suppression of speech. lmao

If another famous female personality said, "ah great, no men to stink up the place" or something no one would bat an eye. As it should be because it is a random harmless joke.

Actually, I'm pretty sure if any prominent female in the games industry said that, they would be immediately bombarded with harassment and drowned is sexist pejoratives.

Lots of people on here seem to have an axe to grind against him.

Colin made shitty tweets, he is also someone that lots of people, including me, have listened to for the better part of a decade. I can both not like his shitty trolling, and be a big fan of his body of work.

You guys read his history of Naughty Dog? I wish more people in this industry did work like that.

There are plenty who do that also happen to not write articles defending shitty "girlfriend modes" in games. This isn't just about tweets.

People watch Tomi Lehren and she's incredibly stupid and uninformed. Colin has his cult of followers that will follow him into hell. You don't have to actually know about politics or have reasonable political takes to be a political pundit these days. Hell you don't actually have to know about politics to be President. What a time to be alive.

The ironic thing is that if he goes in this direction, all he will be doing is creating that echo chamber he claims to hate so much.

He did before the election. Ever since he's been backing trump as hard as he possibly can without saying "Donald Trump is great!" He just pretends he's attacking 'liberals' disagreeing with trump, not supporting trump. Kinda like Palmer Luckey said he wasn't supporting trump, just attacking Hillary.

Ever since? That Facebook post was before the inauguration and before all the shit hit the fan. Still though, that post seems more like a plea to not crap on people because of the person they voted for. I know Trump voters, I'm still great friends with them. Also supporting a candidates platform is not the same as supporting the candidate, made more apparent that he made the choice that Trump was too toxic to vote for. I don't have Facebook to know if he's posted anything since.

Was never really a fan but never disliked them, Greg kinda peeved me by not being a Yakuza fan but that's a stupid reason for someone to bother you haha. Watched their morning show without Colin, never really seen anything from him before his whole fiasco but in wake of all that's spawned off that, good riddance I saw. Maybe I'll indulge in some of their content now. Respect to all of them for keeping their separation clean and respectful.

Am I the only one disgusted by all the self-centeredness in that farewell blurb? Christ. Is he always this egotistical?

Colin said:
Thank me for me for supporting me, and I have new opportunities already for me, follow and support me, it's all about me, see me later.
