Comcast Thread of Hate

Argh! Can these people do anything right? I just moved into a new house and I called the sales rep. and gave him my order. Just before the call ended, I specifically went through the list of items I ordered to have him confirm.

Of course, when the installer shows up (on the wrong date), I look at the box and I'm like "Wait, that doesn't look like an HD box". He says "Yeah, I figured you wanted HD with that TV...those fuck ups in sales..." He showed me his order and indeed, those tardbuckets entered the wrong order EVEN AFTER I WENT THROUGH EACH LINE ITEM to specifically check that I got what I wanted.

So my wife goes out today to their field office and complains that they gave us the wrong service. What do they do? Instead of offering for a tech to come out for free, they hand her the box and cables and tell her to return the current box by Saturday. WTF???

But not only that, Comcast service is beyond shitty. If you get the Triple Play, you have to use their shitty cable modem which has led to noticeably slower response on web pages over our previous Motorola modem. The digital cable channels have a habit of getting blocky at all the wrong times. The remote control is the most heinous thing ever invented. And their cable service is severely overpriced in the hopes of forcing you to get their shitty Triple Play.

What makes it worse is that Cablevision teases me by offering service in the zip code, but not to that street address  Not only is their cable service cheaper and more "stable" (I used them for 2.5 years when I was in a previous residence), but their internet service is MORE THAN 3x AS FAST (30mpbs down/5mbps up) as Comcast's fastest option (8mbps) AT ROUGHLY THE SAME PRICE. To make it even more sob-worthy, they also allow HTTP traffic over port 80, assign a fixed IP, and allow you to run a mail server - essentially meaning I can dump my current hosting provider.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
My parents have comcast. And yes, they do suck. They went a number of weeks, maybe even months dealing with their internet crapping out for hours at a time on an almost daily basis, and comcast didn't do shit about it. fuck'em.

I have comcast and have come to expect at least three days of down time each month. They're the worst ISP I've ever had, but have a monopoly on cable in my area. Since I don't have a hard phone line, I'm pretty much stuck with them.

only Fernando's ripe melons are good enough for me
I have it at school in Delaware and at home in New York my parents have OOL. OOL is faster, no question. The TV menu is a bit better on Comcast though.

I used to use Comcast and had no problems with installation, reliability, or billing. But now I’m with Dish Network cause it’s cheaper. Plus Comcast sucks at negotiations with new channels. Looks like Dish will have the Big10 Network by launch, but Comcast is holding out.

I've had Comcast for 4 or so years and they've been excellent for me. I'm moving in two weeks and have FIOS set up, so unless they fuck up fast they'll remain a good service in my experience. Sucks for you though, that sounds like a pain in the ass.

The real killer is that I didn't know about the Cablevision stuff until today. 30/5 (omg-omg-omg...that's pretty much FIOS speed territory), HTTP over port 80 allowed, SMTP over port 25 allowed, roughly the same cost as Comcast's fastest (yet over three times slower) option... :SPLOOGE:

Knowing that there's this awesome service somwhere in my town, but not to my house makes me want to cry :*(

comcast is fucking shit. from talking to people it seems the only places comcast is reliable is where there are alternate cable providers. Where I used to live we had the choice between comcast and roadrunner internet and comcast was fine. now where I live there is just comcast, and its shit. constant connection drops, slow connection speed, etc.

I've received so many of their damn we want you back/triple play mailers since we switch to FIOS Tv service that I could probably build a small home...

I hate comcast as well. I live in MD and Fios is in a lot of areas, only problem is its not where i live yet. I'm just waiting for the day when i can ditch them. The absolute worst was getting my internet set up they took more than 2 weeks to get me the cable modem and didnt even tell me i could just pick up a self install kid from the central office.

How is the television on FIOS?

Do you still need a box?

How many channels (HD and standard)?

How expensive?

Do you get Steelers games?

I used to work as a comcast telemarketing/sales rep. People hated us.

but, the amount of fucktards I had for co-workers, no wonder you got screwed.

The main problem is, and every major cable company has this, is that they

1. Outsource call centers out of state
2. Said call centers have arcane hard to use software
3. Said call centers have a revolving door of new workers
4. Using the comcast order entry software is like trying to program 8 vcrs at the same time while on fire.
5. Seriously, don't blame the sales rep, for all you know he may have entered it right, and the system might have failed/changed during the order.

Cable customer service/sales is really shitty.

AT&T. I switched and I'm not looking back.

I'm pretty sure AT&T doesn't have cable/internet in Berkeley. I could be wrong, though. I had a sales interview a few months back when I was desperate for money where I walked around trying to convince people to switch to AT&T. Needless to say, I didn't even last a full day. However, I was really jealous. Better service, more channels and cheaper! Gah! But it was only offered in a few select regions south of San Francisco.

I put the ZIP code 94720 into their finder and it showed me the same service I get in San Mateo county.

Heck if I know, all TV seems about the same to me.... I just don't have to deal with Comcast's shitty customer service anymore... I like the Home Media DVR's ability to play it's recorded shows on any other Verizon cable box in the home. Once they add remote scheduling/management it'll be even better.

Do you still need a box?
Yes.

How many channels (HD and standard)?
No idea, I think someone posted a channel lineup url

How expensive?
As expensive as you want it to be(which in our case is pretty steep).

Do you get Steelers games?
No, Steelers games are not allowed in our home, unless the Ravens are crushing them. ;)

I seriously want FiOS. I used to have Adelphia, but they got switched over to Comcast. I think the worst thing is how they tease me with the upload. It'll go to 1.5mbps for about 20 seconds ("powerboost"...what) and then kick down to lower upload speeds than what I got with Adelpia.**** Comcast.

I will have hate for Comcast if when I get home my TiVo HD is not getting all my digital channels. They said it'd be updated before 5 pm.... let's see.

The almost 3 years I've had to suffer with Comcast has been unbearable. The minute I can get out from under that shit company I'm throwing a huge ass house party.

Man, I used to think Comcast sucked too. Then I moved to Miami Florida and my only option for cable internet was Strategic. Anytime from 3pm until 1 or 2am, I was getting SUB56k speeds. I kid you not, I ran 5 or 6 different bandwidth tests and all of them came back with around 20-22kbps download. So I guess it's all about perspective; I'd kill to have Comcast down here.

Needless to say I'm switching to DSL (despite having to add a land-based phone). Heaven help me if that isn't quicker.

I hate that company.

That is one thing we agree on. Their monopoly on their area (Southwest DC) of the cable variety is quite tragic. I would love the FIOS option but the area's not quite wealthy enough (yet) for Verizon to start digging.

I got the triple play as well only because it was the cheaper alternative to having digital cable from Comast and having phone and DSL service with Verizon (who also raised their rates on me last month without any notification). I must say though, so far, no real issues with broadband or the phone service via Comcast. However, their customer service is atrocious.

They sent me a flier for the triple play that also offered the first month free. So I figured even if I signed up and had to cancel, the money I would save in the long run and via the triple play would break even. Nice idea. I also repeated the order to the CSR on the phone and even called again that afternoon to confirm. (Also, the tech came over two hours later than the window they promised and I am yet to see the $20 credit on my bill that they promised me as a result.) I literally had to spend three weeks calling customer service, being lied to about getting return calls, and dealing with csrs who feigned amnesia and would not honor the flyer (saying that it never existed). It's a crappy company with horrific customer service. Don't try going to the Local comcast service center as they're even worse in person.

Eventually I spoke with someone who gave me most of the credit back.

I hate the company with a passion. I would consider Direct TV since they launched new satellites but they're still compromising on resolution (and possibly bitrate).
