Shipping lists for January 6, 2010: Diamond / Midtown Comics / Marvel / DC / Image / Dark Horse

We're kicking off the first Comic Book Day thread of 2010 with the final big event from Marvel for a while.

I don't believe the recent holiday is pushing books to Thursday this week as my local shop says they're back to Wednesday releases. And they're currently doing a 50% off all back issues (except for last week's releases) sale so I'm doing some major catching up.

Dark Horse
Mass Effect: Redemption #1 - The start of a mini-series tie-in to the upcoming sequel from Mass Effect 2 lead writer Mac Walters.

DC
Blackest Night: Wonder Woman #2 - The cover suggests this mini might be a little off schedule from the main book but it should still be a good read.
Red Robin #8 - Red Robin goes up against the Council of Spiders.
Superman: World of New Krypton #11 - The second-to-last issue in this year-long mini.

Image/Top Cow
Haunt #4 - Kirkman's new series continues as Haunt goes up against Cobra again.
Image United #2 Kirkman's big crossover continu... He pretty much owns the universe now doesn't he?

Marvel
Amazing Spider-Man Presents Jackpot #1 - She kind of died in the 2008 ASM Annual so who is the new Jackpot?
Cable #22 - The final arc in this series continues as we march on Second Coming.
Deadpool Team-Up #897 - Deadpool teams up with the Ghost Riders. Yes, plural.
Nation X: X-Factor #1 - Peter David brings X-Factor to Utopia after an invitation from Cyclops.
New Mutants #9 - Emma wants to get to the bottom of Illyana Rasputin. It's not as kinky as that sounds.
Siege #1 - The final big event (according to Marvel) for a while kicks off here capping off a few years of storytelling since Avengers Disassembled in 2004. Norman Osborn goes after Asgard using his own personal Stamford incident as a catalyst.
Siege: Embedded #1 - This is basically the Front Line mini of the Siege event written by Brian Reed.
Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #6 - Introducing the Ultimate Spider-Slayer, sent after Peter by Mysterio.

Covers
Depending on your browser, some might show up as red X's or you just won't see anything at all (that's what happens for me on Firefox). Those are placeholders and they'll appear when Midtown Comics uploads the images on Wednesday.

Haunt, Cinderella, and Ultimate (...Comics) Spiderman for me.

Oh and I'll probably get the Walking Dead book either this or next week. But definitely getting it, then I'll have the full set. <3 Walking Dead.

Why is Tom Green on a comic book cover?

Also, strangely maybe only Deadpool Team-Up this week. I STILL need to pick up some back issues, but I've been lazy.

Just Siege, I guess.

Been reading a lot of already-released stuff lately. Currently working through Invincible and Scott Pilgrim.

DOOM PATROL! Rebis! Crazy Jane! So awesome!

(I'll get New Mutants and Siege too. And my LCS was one of those crummy ones that don't get Blackest Night #6 in until this week.)

Slim pickings this week for me, guys, only a handful of new books to look forward to but I'll still end up making the trip. IF the predicted rain doesn't turn to sleet/snow, that is; the weatherman's predicting some nasty sh*t headed our way and foks in Cajun Country can't handle the wet stuff when it starts getting slushy. :(

NOV090007 PREVIEWS #256 JANUARY 2010 PI - boy I sure hope I remembered to turn in last month's order form. :O

Oh, I almost forgot! DC's "The Source" blog is back from vacation, and today they posted some unfinished pages from Johns/Mahnke Green Lantern #50. I won't post the pages themselves, only the link, as the pages are pretty spoilerific if you haven't picked up your copy of Blackest Night #6 yet.

Awesome. *drools* :D
I want to click, but I haven't read BN #6. =[

Aw, they're ending the Marvel Adventures comics? My wife liked those (me too)
Yeah, I read that story this morning too. I was a fan of the MA Avengers comics, just a lot of fun to see those characters interact without all of the "politics" of the 616 getting in the way. Once they cancelled that series, though, well... I figured the writing was on the wall.

Looks like Wonder Woman BN # 2 for me this week. Very slow.

But I did pick up my backlog of Secret Six and Wonder Woman, and some old JSA stuff.

I hvnt been reading Marvel since Secret Invasion 7 so....what your guys take on siege?

I don't mind Finch at all. He's gotten some bum gigs, but it ain't his fault really.

Hey nice Siege review btw. I see how you couldn't go all out but I thought it worked overall.

I'm in. :D

Eh, I mainly just used it as an excuse to talk about what I like about the rest of Marvel these days.

;D

It's a lovely read, though.

Finch is that one guy who took "drawing the Top Cow way" to the point of toxic excess in my opinion, and his time at Marvel only nurtured those gross tendencies.

This week is looking pretty good for myself. I'm excited that the Seige is finally starting because that means we are so much closer to the heroic age. I have high hopes for that :D

This week:
Blackest Night Wonder Woman #2 (I like the cover)
Doom Patrol Vol 5 #6
Cinderella From Fabletown With Love #3
Greek Street #7
Sweet Tooth #5
Haunt #4
Deadpool Team-Up #897
Siege (Marvel) #1
Siege Embedded #1
Spider-Man Noir Eyes Without A Face #2

Not sure if I'm going to bother going to the comics shop this week. Will probably skip Siege, so that just makes that Mass Effect 2 comic as the only thing I'm remotely interested in.

In the New Mutants, yeah, it's already over. Necrosha continues on in X-Force #23-25 and X-Men Legacy #232-233. I really was not too thrilled with how they ended the New Mutants part. "DOUG'S BACK...AGAIN! Warlock too!" Ugh.

@ Skittleguy

How is Hellboy? I'm interested in jumping into the series. Would that first volume you have be a good choice?

I'd say so. It kinda starts In medias res with the back story being fleshed out as it goes along.

Just keep in mind Mignola co-wrote the first one with John Byrne, since he was kind of insecure about his scripting abilities. Ironically, I'd say Seed of Destruction is probably the hardest book to get through due to all of the exposition.

The great thing about Hellboy is that you can actually jump in fairly easily. Even though the issues are technically numbered, since they constantly jump around the timeline, it's not exactly linear. The Crooked Man, for example, is super new-reader-friendly, and that one came out a year or so ago. Hell, you could probably read The Wild Hunt (one of the newer arcs from this past year, and one that's very tied into the larger story) without too much Wikipedia-referencing.

A Mass Effect comic too. I'm loving comic book companies capitalizing on videogames. Gears of War was the top selling comic in the year it was released DC was able to get that comic into game shops. Gamers are the most fanboy people of any hobby they'll pick up $3-4 comics based on their current favorite game of the month without even thinking about it.

Cinderellla: Good. I'm really liking the flashbacks to Cinderella's past. And I like the shoe store portion too. Good stuff.

Haunt: Every issue is better than the last. Really liking this book.

Ultimate Comics Spiderman: Great, really funny too. Love the art.
