And, with this last issue, I have managed to completely avoid the whole Indentity Crisis bit whatsoever. Hurrah! I'll celebrate by going to buy a bunch of other comics instead:

Birds of Prey #77 - Wherein our heroines continue to hunt down vigalantes. Anyone else admiring the irony there?

I like this cover, but only because it makes me think Jerry Lewis might make a guest appearance.

Ex Machina #7 - This comic is great and you should all be buying it, goddamnit.

Ocean #3 (of 6) - Terrific mini-series from Ellis, where he ditches decompressed technobabble in favor of reasonably dense technobabble.

I love Chris Sprouse.

Ultimate Spider Man #70 - I'm going to start referring to this comic as USM, if only because it reminds me of Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine.

Queen and Country #28 - Rock out! And thus the comics week is well-rounded and an thing of beauty.

Oh, I'm sure I'll read it eventually. I just can't be bothered to pay money for it. Or download it for free for that matter.

That IC Preview is just cruel. I may die waiting for this to come out. I even went looking for an early pirate scan, I'm so eager (if only to avoid any accidental spoilage).

I haven't been this pumped for a new issue of a comic since Watchmen, or maybe Cerebus during the Church and State days. I'm that geeked (not that this is as good as those, but certainly has me on the edge of my seat issue by issue).

downloading for free? for shame fnord..... shame.........

I don't download American comics - unavailable, fan-translated manga, sure, but not the US stuff. I'm just saying that I couldn't be bothered to download Identity Crisis either. Eventually someone I know will let me borrow it or I'll be able to check it out of the library. Until then, I can wait.

One option - a lot of comic shops get their books early, on Tuesday night. If you go begging, they might let you have a copy of IC #7. :)

Fnord, if you can avoid the spoilers, I really do recommend it. Forget the "it'll change comics forever" hype, it's good becuase:

1) It's a well-written (so far) mystery that treats the reader with respect. We'll see if it pays off as well as it's been built up in issues 1-6.

2) It's a great character peice for some of the heroes and villains.

3) It's certainly a different view of the way the world works than you usually see in a super-hero comic. Fairly refreshing perspective.

4) (Optional): If you were a fan of either Suicide Squad or the Satellite-era JLA, it references both in satisfying ways.

Alas, I've had the ending spoiled for me pretty thoroughly at this point. By the time I get around to reading the series, however, I'll probably have forgotten all about it.

Matlock, Gail Simone is still waiting for you with open arms. Oh, and she's also writing BoP, which has been rather good lately.

How the fuck does she still have work? Honestly.

From now on I'm changing my official opinon of Birds of Prey from "Pretty Decent" to "Freakin' Awesome", just for you. Woo, Gail Simone!

Remind me, you had an online spat with Simone, right?

I'm not crazy about her work either, but I'll admit, her Deadpool run wasn't half bad.

DarienA

The black man everyone at Activision can agree on
ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #635: Lame storyline but I'm hoping some of the small pieces are leading up to something bigger.
BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHTS #60: Hush is going after Alfred.. interesting.
BIRDS OF PREY #77: Ummm so far the new direction isn't doing much for me... but we'll see.
IDENTITY CRISIS #7: Been an interesting story, but are there any real long term effects? Not for most of the characters involved.
ROBIN #133: Diggin this current storyline.
CABLE DEADPOOL #10: The passion of the Cable continues!
FANTASTIC FOUR #521: Johnny Storm galatic herald

Look at in store:
WITCHBLADE #81
EXILES #56

IDENTITY CRISIS #7 (Of 7)
EXILES #56
100 BULLETS #56
ACTION COMICS #822
JSA #68
MARVEL KNIGHTS SPIDER-MAN #9
POWERS #7
YOUNG GUNS 2004 SKETCH BOOK
X-MEN THE END BOOK ONE DREAMERS AND DEMONS #6 (Of 6)
MEGACITY 909 CVR A #4

Have to pick up last week's books along with this weeks. I just realized I still haven't read Megacity #3 yet. last thing I need is a comic book pile of shame to go with my videogame and anime pile of shame.

Astonishing is better than Morrison's New X-Men. You heard me.

WHAT YOU SAY!!

I think I'm missing the geek gene that you like Whedon. Buffy bores me. Astonishing bores me to tears. Haven't tried Firefly.

I generally tell folks who didn't care for Buffy that they'd probably enjoy Firefly anyway. I mean, it's basically Wild West Space Lupin, with a larger cast and Whedon's penchent for quips thrown in. As you're not digging on his AXM run, I dunno if I'd make the Firefly recommendation quite as wholeheartedly, but it might be worth checking out.
