Whu, already?

Anyone interested in early work by Alan Moore would do well to keep an eye out for Skizz, released this week.

This week's haul:

Sleeper Vol. 2 #9
Wonder Woman #213
Y: The Last Man #31
Powers #9
Ultimate Nightmare #5 (of 5)
Seven Soldiers of Victory #0

So, that's three generally superior comics, one decent title, the end to one really lousy miniseries (thanks, Warren), and I'll be breaking down to check out Seven Soldiers. I dunno if I want to pick up the entire line (though it's looking likely to happen), but after basking in the glory of Promethea #32, I need my J.H. Williams III fix.

This would be a light week, except several comics didn't show up at my shop last week and I'll have a couple of manga volumes waiting for me. Whee!

FLASH #219 $2.25
SEVEN SOLDIERS #0 $2.95
SLEEPER SEASON TWO #9 (OF 12) (MR) $2.95
POWERS #9 (MR) $2.95

I'll probably skip going to the store this week as the only real title I'm interested in is Powers...and maybe Sleeper.

Does anyone know when Ultimate Ironman is supposed to come out? I saw a listing for the poster so I'm guessing it should be out very soon.

No idea what Seven Soldiers is but you guys seem to have it on your list so I figured I'd give it a shot. Can anyone give a brief synopsis on what it is?

Thanks

Grant Morrison's latest mad project: a prologue, an epilogue, and seven interconnected four issue miniseries based (very) loosely on the original concept and turns it into a sprawling event comic starring - are you ready? - Frankenstein, Shining Knight, Klarion the Witch Boy, Mister Miracle, Bulleteer, Zatanna, and The (Manhattan) Guardian. Naturally, saving the world is on the agenda.

Newsarama talks about the project here.

Seven Soldiers and Solo #3 (the Paul Pope issue). I won't get them this week, though... I started buying online for a hassle-free, don't have to visit a comic shop experience. It's totally for the best.

I started reading manga lately, too. I'm the last person in the world to catch on, like usual. Vagabond is really good. I kind of know the story a little because I've seen the movie trilogy that criterion put out, but it's still great reading. More wit and violence in the comics version, that's cool. The book looks amazing too, that dude can draw. Lone Wolf & Cub, Planetes, even GTO (so funny, that book - I'm not ashamed to admit I like it).

I caught up on Ultimates last week (along with the other comics I got in the mail). Great stuff, it's the superhero comic that I want to read. Vimanarama was good as well... hope that Seven Soldiers continues Morrison's hot streak.

And if it keeps raining like this, I'll never leave the house again so I'll have plenty of time to read comics.

Good taste in manga. Those are actually almost all of the books I regularly read. I've also been getting Blade of the Immortal since '97 and I get Suikoden, .Remote, and Saikano as well, but those last 3 are a bit weaker than those previously mentioned.

I only get Lone Wolf and Cub on occasion because the repetition of the story gets to me when I read too many without a break. Still, about half of it is pure genius. The cinematic art is quite amazing.

Planetes is my favorite recent manga, and I was sad that it ended so quickly.

I'll be picking up:

FLASH #219
SEVEN SOLDIERS #0
SLEEPER SEASON TWO #9 (OF 12)
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #517
FANTASTIC FOUR #523
SPIDER MAN HUMAN TORCH #2 (OF 5)

I'm pretty pumped about Seven Soldiers, particularly Guardian, Frankenstein, and Zantanna. I don't know if I'll be able to afford all of the mini-series', but I'll definitely give each one a good hard look.

Don't know if I'll have enough money to pick it up, but I want to pick up that JSA: Princes of Darkness trade, as that's about the time I was unemployed back in 2003.

Mmm, Powers. Best thing going alongside Astonishing X-Men and Ex Machina right now. Wish I wasn't poor and could afford more titles.

Quick Thoughts:

BATGIRL #61 - meh, lame enemies, why has Bruce outfitted Batgirl in Bludhaven much more than he has Robin?
BATMAN #637 - meh, the best part of this issue were the conversations between Freeze/Mask, and Freeze/Hood imo
NIGHTWING #104 - meh, the book is advertised as Nightwing's first encounter with Jason Todd.... but unless my issue is missing a page that doesn't happen in this issue.
WONDER WOMAN #213 - um.... well that was... unexpected, curious to see where at least one of the upcoming storylines goes... I guess my biggest problem with this book is that I don't particular are about any of the characters... this current storyline was interesting enough that I bought all of the books back to the beginning of the storyline... but I don't care about the doctor trying to ruin WW, or the sorceress helping her... and even though I usually love 'gods' I could care less about the shuffling of power and the male gods plotting to get back.... so this book might be heading out.
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #517 - meh, I'm trying really hard to care about this storyline, but it isn't happening, maybe now that family is about to get put in harms way I'll care next issue.
FANTASTIC FOUR #523 - meh, leave Galactus alone dammit... doing a story like this while Galactus is kickin but over in Beta Ray Bill often reminds me how you have to read certain books as if they are taking place in a different time period than others even when they are "sharing" characters.
UNCANNY X-MEN #456 - meh, oh goodie a mind control X-men kicks the other X-men's butts....AGAIN....ZZZZzzzzz
X-MEN #167 - meh, I have NO idea what the hell is going on in this storyline... honestly, I have no f'n clue....really... the art is so f'n disjointed at times I don't know what I'm reading, who is where, etc....
X-MEN PHOENIX ENDSONG #3 - <sigh> it's not TERRIBLE, X-Men: The End holds that title... but uh... oh forget it...
OUTSIDERS #21 - Damn someone impersonating Bruce... that's gotta piss him off... Has Slade ever had his own book? He seems like such a kickass character.. yeah I know he's a bad guy and those books tend to no survive... be he is just so f'n cool.... this book is new to my list... may have to hang on to it for a bit...
EXCALIBUR #10 - BWAHAHAHHAHHAHA.... then I realize I bought this... :( Oh well at least Magneto might be turning bad again....
ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE #5 - I read this in the store... BWAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
X-23 #3 - I read this in the store... BWAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAH

Deathstroke had his own monthly series in the late 80s and early 90s. It lasted about 60 some odd issues, which truth be told might be the longest a"bad" guy series has lasted. It varies in quality from arc to arc, but overall its worth reading at least once. I'll just warn you that it got damn weird in the last year of it.

Why are you buying bad comics?

Does no one else read Books of Magick: Life During Wartime?

Anyway, that's all I got this week. I was happy with it, despite this issue seemingly jumping into the future a bit.
