Diamond's Shipping List for August 31st 2005

I'll be picking up:

EX MACHINA #14
FLASH #225 - I can't believe Geoff Johns' run is ending. Johns' run on the title was one of the best runs on a modern superhero title in a long, long time.
GREEN LANTERN #4
SEVEN SOLDIERS SHINING KNIGHT #4 (OF 4)
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12 - Shame the title is going on hiatus (four months, I think). AXM surpassed all of my expectations, and Whedon's run so far might be even better than Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men.
NEW AVENGERS #9
WHA HUH - Finally! The book has been delayed for what, a year? This one should be lots of fun.

Pardon my ignorance, but wasnt 'astonishing X-men' the title of an age of apocalypse book?

Did they make an AoA ongoing title or something?

ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN #643 - which my stupid store forgot to pull and then sold out off last week...
BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHTS #68 - There was a revelation here 1-2 re: Hush identity issues ago that hasn't been addressed... and I'm now it's going to get a major focus...
FLASH #225 - I know shit about Flash but I picked up last issue because of the cover and... wow....
GREEN LANTERN #4
ROBIN #141
WONDER WOMAN #220
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #523
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12 - This storyline minus a few continuity issues has been very interesting... can't wait to see if the finale is all it's being cracked up to be...
NEW AVENGERS #9 - I'm tired of hearing that this character is potentially the most powerful character in the Marvel universe... so let's f'n SEE it...
RUNAWAYS #7
SUPREME POWER #18
WHA HUH
X-MEN THE END HEROES AND MARTYRS #6
YOUNG AVENGERS #6 - Could it be? Finally?

EX MACHINA #14
FLASH #225 - I will drop this book when Johns leaves :(
SEVEN SOLDIERS SHINING KNIGHT #4 (OF 4) - I really enjoyed issue 3. Does anyone know who the remaining seven soldiers are? I don't have the schedule handy.
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12
POWERS BENDIS COVER #12 (MR) - I never knew Bendis could draw. I guess we'll see how well. I'll prob. pick up the Oeming version instead though.

I don't remember if Astonishing Xmen was a title under the Age of Apocalypse, but this title using history from the New X-Men during Grant Morrison's run. Joss Whedon (of Firefly/Serenity, Buffy and Angel fame) is writing the book and It's really, really good.

yes it was. And there was also a 3 issue mini series back in 1999 that used the title Astonishing X-men. This one is different.

FLASH #225
GREEN LANTERN #4
SILENT DRAGON #2 (OF 6)
AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #523
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12
CAPTAIN AMERICA #9
MARVEL 1602 NEW WORLD #2 (OF 5)
NEW AVENGERS #9
POWERS BENDIS COVER #12
X-MEN THE END HEROES AND MARTYRS #6 (OF 6)
WIZARD COMICS MAGAZINE ALL STAR BATMAN CVR #168

I doubt I'll have the money for all of this this week, or if I do I'll be left with about 20 bucks for the rest of the week. Decisions, Decisions.

ASTRO CITY THE DARK AGE #3 (OF 16)
EX MACHINA #14 (MR)
POWERS BENDIS COVER #12 (MR) Fucking finally.
WHA HUH (RES)

Which, I think, may make it the biggest 1-week haul for me ever (well, aside from when I've just been filling in my at-college backlog). What can I say -- I don't buy a lot.

Flash #225 - I'm going to really miss Johns' work here. Next team will have a HUGE pair of shoes to fill:)
Green Lantern #4 - Not great, but still a good read thus far
Wonder Woman #220 - Sacrifice fallout, always good for a good time! Plus WW is cuffed on the cover, you know she's weak to bondage!

If you like his powers cover, pick up Jinx, Goldfish or Torso TPBs from Image. His style really works well for his neo-noir books - its black and white with obvious reliance on photo referances; I really don't know how it will work for a superhero book.

stealth edit: I just remembered that Bendis' Fortune and Glory and Total Sell Out TBPs exhibit a totally different art style than his neo-noir crime work. It's very cartoony; maybe that'll be the style of his cover.

edit x2:
That's Bendis' cover.

Ex Machina #14 - Wrapping up the 3-part 12 Angry Men riff. Woo!

4024_400x600.jpg

Seven Soldiers: Shining Knight #4 (of 4) - Totally fucking awesome. I'm psyched to see how self-contained the Seven Soldiers minis really are.

4063_400x600.jpg

Tom Strong #24 - It's not as good a comic as when Moore was writing it, but I'm still happy to read Tom Strong's adventures. Yeah, I know, I'm a sucker.

4030_400x600.jpg

Wonder Woman #220 - Thank god Rucka has decided to return to traditional themes in Wonder Woman.

ASTXM012_COV.jpg

Astonishing X-Men - And now we have to wait four long months until volume two. No, wait - six months after the inevitable delays.

Powers #12 - Wonder what the Oeming cover looks like? I haven't spotted it yet.

RUNAWAYS007.jpg

Runaways #7 - That cover is freakin' awesome. The rest of the comic should be pretty freakin' great as well.

FnordChan, who will also break down and pick up Essential X-Men Vol. 6

Definite:
JUN058177 SUPERMAN #219 SECOND PTG $2.50
JUN050390 WONDER WOMAN #220 $2.50

Maybe:
JUN050338 CATWOMAN #46 $2.50
JUL052789 GI JOE AMERICAS ELITE #3 $2.95
JUN052071 ESSENTIAL X-MEN VOL 6 TP $16.99

BTW, this week's ASM #523 has Spider-Man
pulling a Cap.

GREEN LANTERN #4 $2.99
WONDER WOMAN #220 $2.50
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12 $2.99
NEW AVENGERS #9 $2.50
RUNAWAYS #7 $2.99
YOUNG AVENGERS #6 $2.99
WIZARD COMICS MAGAZINE ALL STAR BATMAN CVR #168 $5.99

Slow DC week. =(

But Young Avengers is a major plus.

Oh, sweet, Young Avengers #6 is out. I'll grab that and begrudgingly continue New Avengers and it's weak story. Maybe grab some backissues of The Runaways and catch up, and maybe do the same on Astonishing X-men and Shining Knight

First post updated with cover images (New Avengers cover missing).

I was a bit worried about the title until last issue. The line, "Believe it or not, I still have a plan," was awesome. The fight was also choreographed perfectly.

Maybe some of you comic gods can help me...was Frank Miller's RoboCop issue 9 ever released?
Not released yet.

#8 was released back in June. I'm glad I decided to wait for this in trade... it's been 26 months and the 9 issue mini series still isn't finished!

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #523
ASTONISHING X-MEN #12
NEW AVENGERS #9

someone should explain the astro city before "dark age" to me. like should i just start off with that first tpb?

Astro City is a book which revolves around the city and the superheros/villains/inhabitants within it.

Each series (or sometimes standalone comic) deals with a certain aspect/person/time period of the city. The perspective of the story can change between the superhero, the supervillain, or some random bystander.

Most of the heros/villains are kind of take-offs of comic icons, like Samaritan and Superman, Jack-in-the-Box and Spider-Man, ect...though they arent just rip offs, more like homages, and maybe more human depictions. For example, Samaritan is basically Superman who spends his entire day rushing from one emergency to the next depending on how close the problem is and its relative importance.

While each all of the Astro City stories can pretty much be read independently of one another, there is a lot of overlap (since it, for the most part, all takes place in the same city). There is also a lot of character/story background mentioned through out Astro City that has not been explained/elaborated on. Astro City:Dark Ages deals with one of these, the story behind the Silver Agent statue.

You could start reading Astro City from pretty much anywhere, my favorite tpb is Confessions, but the first tpb (Stories from? I forget the name), Family Album, Tarnished Angel, are all good.

i was thinking the other day that Batman better be held accountable for his actions. Seriously, this is the second time he's done something like this where he's made plans to take out his fellow teammates. Last time I think he got off light by just running away from the situation and placing himself in self exile from everyone in the JLA.

With him being the one behind the idea of Brother Eye and the OMACs, he should be held responsible for what's been going on. Because of his plan Blue Beetle, Rocket Red, even Maxwell Lord (althought he was the bad guy) are dead.

He's upset because his memory was erased and now he remembers. crybaby. Then he has the balls to tell Clark that his mind controlled situation won't work because he's the most powerful man on the planet and he doesn't get to use that excuse. Seriously, someone needs to knock him down a peg because he's no better.

There should be consequences for him because honestly, it's getting annoying seeing Batman written as an infallable character. He's been written as a jerk for close to ten years. He always has a plan, always knows how to take down someone, always beats Superman, is ALWAYS right. I can understand if they want to make Batman on level with the other super powered heroes by showing us his intelligence, but even then we're all having the idea forced down our throats that Batman is on a whole other level then the rest are.

One can only hope that after Infinite Crisis, that Batman would be in some way accountable for his actions. or that he'll finally learn to be human.
