What the hell? Is that Spoiler as the Dead Robin in Detective #809? That's bizarre.....

-edit- alright, it makes a lot more sense after reading the updated preview. Should be very interesting:)

JSA #76
ARTXILLA TASTY TREATS 2005 ONE SHOT
MARVEL 1602 NEW WORLD #1 (OF 6)
NEW AVENGERS #8
ULTIMATE IRON MAN #3 (OF 5)
UNCANNY X-MEN #463

Not really a whole lot for me this week, compared to last week. I would love to get the 49ers hardcover, but I don't have 25 bucks to blow on it in addition to what i regularly buy. It'll have to wait til next week.

In the bag:

Serenity #2 (of 3) - I'd be a lot more excited about this if I'd managed to get my hands on the first issue. Sigh. My local shop will have an issue set aside from me once they're reprinted, but until then I'll have to admire one of the three collectable Serenity covers and wait. Bah.

Y: The Last Man #36 - Ah! Pia Guerra returns to provide art for a one-shot issue about Yorick's girlfriend Beth. This should kick all manner of ass.

Hip Flask: Mystery City - The Hip Flask one-shots are overpriced fluff...but, man, do they look great, and it's good fun if not exactly deep reading.

Ultimate Spider-Man - Ultimate Master of Kung-Fu! Ultimate Iron Fist! Ultimate Moon Knight! Ultimate 70's nostalgia!

These may have to wait until I'm a bit more flush, but at some point I'll be snagging:

Top Ten: The Forty-Niners - I dunno if I can bring myself to buy the hardback, but I may break down and buy it after all. Either way, I'm going to have to have my Top Ten fix; I just hope I can hold out for softcover.

X-Men Vignettes Vol. 2 - Collecting the back-up strips from Classic X-Men #14-25. I'm too much of a fan of the old Claremont comics to not snag every last bit of his pre-90s writing.

Finally, I may have 1602: New World #1 (of 6) waiting for me in my bag. Eh. It's being written by Greg Pak, whose recent Phoenix: Endsong mini was apparently decent, so if it's been set aside for me I'll give this a shot. I'm not expecting much but, hey, who knows.

I enjoyed 1602, but without Gaiman's direct involvement, I'd rather see some review of New World first.

Really want to read The Forty-Niners, but it's just too expensive. I'll wait for the trade (or for a local library to get it in, if I'm lucky).

Hey, what a horrible week!

I'll get whichever of the Serenity covers is the least ugly. I'm not even that into this book... it's just not doing much for me.

I'm stuck on re-reading Sexy Voice & Robo. Yes, I'm pimping this book again. It's a 400 page full size book (too powerful to be contained by the digest format!) and amazon.com is selling it for $14. That's value! The bullet point premise would read something like: young Tokyo girl takes jobs from local mob boss - solves cases ranging from mundane relationship drama to bizarre sports related assasination plots - frequently enlists hapless, oblivious, toy robot obsessed video-store clerk as her unwitting sidekick. That description didn't make any sense, but the book is actually really good. I'd recommend it to any non manga-phobe.

Doesn't it seem like it's been forever since a Seven Soldiers book came out. Wow, frustrating. Also, the Warren Ellis Justice League Experience from last week was horrible. Empty, tedious, brutally un-funny (the clark kent / lois lane newsroom stuff - absolute train-wreck). Why do I buy horrible things like this?

I apparently missed the first round of pimping, but am glad you opted for more plugging. I'll definately be checking this out.

Edit: I completely missed Stupid Comics #3 when I originally looked at the Diamond list. Thanks for posting the cover, Nomo - I'll definately be picking up more of the Mahfood goodness.

My rule of thumb: don't buy anything Ellis unless it's creator owned. His "year of whoredom" titles (Ult. FF, Iron Man, Ultimate Secret/Nightmare) have been awful.

And jeez borghe, you buy a lot of titles!

My list:

GOTHAM CENTRAL #34
JUSTICE #1 (OF 12) - Maybe. I'm planning to wait for the TPB or HC, but I might buy it anyways because I'm weak.
STUPID COMICS #3
NEW AVENGERS #8

Gotham Central and Justice here. Not sure about New Avengers really. From issue 7 the story wasn't too involving, weak dialogue, little characterization, no team chemistry.. Not to mention the entire team getting their ass handed to them by one guy. I wonder why Brian Michael Bendis has such a huge fanbase though... And the covers for this series are all bad ass.

Bendis' books from the last few years have been somewhat weak (Ult. Spider-Man, Pulse, Avengers, Secret War, House of M); with a lot of it having to do with overexposure and taking too large of a workload. However, some of his older stuff like early Ultimate Spider-Man, and all of Daredevil and Alias are great. I actually like New Avengers a lot too. It might not be a very deep read, but it's a lot of goofy fun.

I'd strongly recommend checking out Bendis' Daredevil stuff if you want Bendis at his best.
