Well as the title suggests, I have been away from the comic world for about 17-20 years. Been playing Batman Arkham the past few weeks and well it has sparked my interest once again in reading comics.

Back in the day, my favorites were mostly Batman, Wolverine, Spidey and X-Men. Today I went to a local Comic book store and I felt lost. So for someone who has been away from comics for so long, what would be some good resources to get back into the meat of things as far as storylines and universe.

Thanks in advance folks.

What are you looking for? Superhero/non SH? Action? Crime? Fantasy? Comedy?

Long running? New?

Anywho, I'll go with a couple off the top of my head.

The Walking Dead
Sandman
Invincible
Preacher
Ultimate Spiderman
Green Lantern
Amazing Spiderman (I'm catching up right now)
Scott Pilgrim
The Unwritten
Chew
Fables

J Michael Straczynski wrote a great Spider Man run a few years back that helped me get back into things, but what REALLY did it for me was Morrison's New Xmen run. Seriously, get that.

Like I said, back in the day my main interests were Spidey, Wolverine and Batman.. So what would be a good way to get back into the think of things with those 3 franchises?

Batman is kind of tricky to get into right now, but if you wait a couple months, Grant Morrison is writing a miniseries titled "Batman: Return of Bruce Wayne." It's a Batman time-travel story, and it looks awesome. Click here to look at the solicited covers for the series.

Speaking of Morrison, yes, his New X-Men run is a must-read, and is collected in 3 volumes, starting here.

Other stuff worth checking out include Ex Machina, by Brain K. Vaughan, and Scalped by Jason Aaron (who is also currently writing a Wolverine book that I hear is good, and will also be writing a Spidey/Wolvie crossover soon.

Edit: Added link for the Spidey/Wolvie book.
