She should kickstart a Director's Cut with better CGs or something. I wish I could say I loved everything about the game but I didn't care for the sex scenes, major bummer for an eroge. :/
First time I tried hooking up with Brad I went
all supportive and "you can do it" but he failed his test. Made me sad.
Ian seems super cool too, I really liked the part his
I think the CGs are hot and I like both art styles, but I agree that sometimes they are a bit disparate when compared to each other. I think sprites are a much better fit stylistically for the story and it would be nice to see the CGs match them more.

Ian looks completely different in the CGs, I think he's the most glaring. Obscura's art grew on me, but the CGs not so much. Still hasn't stopped me from playing the game all day today heh.

I haven't played Jed's route so I can't comment on that, but thus far the only extremely unfitting CGs I've seen were Alex's. Looks completely different from his sprite work. Hot, but still a very different person.
edit: @red_13th
wuh... I didn't think Ian's were that off. Maybe I need to replay his route.
Nitpicking, there are a few moments where the writing is off. For Brad's path, you have words like "feign" and "unseemly" being used. I can't remember the last time I ever used the word "unseemly", and no musclehead frat bro is going to speak like that, especially one who was ready to kick your ass just seconds prior.
There's some spelling and grammar errors which probably only irk me and no one else.
Ian>Brad
I'm not convinced that Obscura's style would work best for the CG art. I like that they have a different artist, I just wish it was someone that would be more faithful in their rendition of the characters. Alex, as CornBurrito said, looks completely different. Hopefully she can find someone else to do the CG if she does another one.
Weird... I've gone through several Brad playthrough branches and it seems like no matter what you do if your legs touch, what kind of essay structuring advice you give him, or what you say to his brother, and no matter how much time you've spent studying,
Brad will always get a failing 69 score on his first paper and his whole route closes.
It seems like the only way the route continues is if you said to him,
"You're screwed if you get injured and your football career comes to a grinding halt. That's the point."
which is weird since
"You know, even if you're a jock, you can't limit your education to sports"
sounds like an acceptable response and there are many ways Brad and you can get distracted. But nope. His first paper score all hinged on that dialogue lol (I'm pretty sure).
Yeah, some of the game's branches are... odd. I got all the endings without guides but I did Alex's first so I learned really quickly that very specific responses at certain points were key. It would have been nice if outcomes were determined by more variables. Say, Brad's paper hinged on a combination of 'academic points' attributed to good advice coupled with a multiplier from the protagonist's own scholastic standing.
That said, with the scroll up function, it's pretty easy to tell what responses are needed. I think all the characters have a different facial reaction between the right and wrong answers. If the person looks pouty after a response, just rewind and grab the right one. The game portions are easily the weakest parts of COOT. Granted, I don't do the whole Visual Novel genre so maybe people are happy with essentially a Choose Your Own Adventure type game play.
It's definitely what I want to do (writing/directing), whether it be for games, movies, TV, etc.
What I really like about COOT is the consistent feel of all the writing. That's what makes each character so appealing, even if their individual story isn't as exciting as others. Just looking at each guy for themselves, I think they all are very engaging.
I love writing too. Actually, I'm doing a smut story for a Christmas present right now. Didn't really think I'd enjoy it but there's some mindless fun to the whole enterprise. Obscura's tone is a very popular style. It's fun and light-hearted and she's able to use it very well. I'm not a huge fan of the Whedonesque style but it's a cute experience.
If I were doing it, I'd probably shoot for greater differences between the characters since they all, mood-wise, are identical. But that's just personal preference.
I 100% dislike the fact the CGs are done by another artist. I guess I can understand why she did it but it's the first gay eroge I played that this "art switch" was tried and IMHO it's a failed experiment. I don't think it's because I don't like the CG artist, especially since I just finished Jed and Phil and while they had great CGs (unlike Brad and Ian), it still felt really weird.
Only route left is Alex's, will try it tomorrow. So far I like them all, not sure which is my favourite. Jed was the most pleasant surprise, wasn't expecting to like him but I really did.
Brad in his birthday suit CG looks a bit different from Brad in the porn CG. I wonder if they're drawn by 2 different artists. I thought one person drew the CG and the other draw the in-game art but that Brad Birthday Suit CG looks different from his other CGs.

that asshole, after everything i did for you, we eventually lost contact with each other. Why you do this to me. I'll try going to the meeting instead of going to his audition.
Also Mark is top tier, that adorable stud. Perfect lead character.
I wanted to like Phil more but his character just isn't that interesting. He does have an amusing storyline and some hot sex scenes though. I ranked Alex lowest because the teacher/student dynamic does absolutely nothing for me, academic politics is boring, his sex scenes are the worst (
I even liked the gag ending more
), and it's damn hard to get any worthwhile romantic or sexual payoff with him.
It's a bit of a waste that Alex was positioned as the primary love interest early on. Brad should have had a more involved storyline instead.

Alex is so visable at the beginning because he was the first love interest to have his basic plot outlined and was featured in the Alpha and early Beta demos. (Ian was there too, but his story was still on the back burner.) Brad, Jed and Phil were still in the rough design stage then. (Jed pretty much stayed the same, but Brad and Phil had a few revision.)
Brad should be the prime, ultimate husbando/waifu material in the animu adaptation. I want to see Mark have a hot one night stand with Alex and sexual tension with Ian but ultimately the series will end with Brad finally getting to fuck Mark in a succession of porn scenes and then become his Bf.
If this thread couldn't get gayer, let's list our personal favorite preferences for all the men:
Mark: no beard/no body hair (though all variations are hot save the beard in a few h-scenes)
Ian: no beard/with body hair
Alex: no beard/no body hair (although all variations are hot even though the beard is its own character)
Jed: with beard/no body hair and vice versa
Phil: no beard/no body hair
Brad: with beard/no body hair (but since it's Brad, all variations are adorable and hot)

Mark - No beard with hair. Think the beard makes him looks a bit too old for college.
Ian - No beard with hair. Don't think I ever seen that hairstyle paired with a beard.
Phil/Alex - No beard and no hair. Sculpted body look matched their all work, no play attitude.
Jed - Beard with hair. Since he's all play...
Brad - Started with beard and hair, but turned the beard off later. Thinks he look slightly better with, but his beardless, cherub face matched his immaturity more. My head canon is that he Riker-up himself next year when he got his act together.

I don't understand why they're called CGs. They're hand-drawn art just like the sprites, only larger. Right? Nothing's animated or whatever. There are like, two or three frames in some scenes, tops.
Count me in as being a lover of the art style in the sprites and standard gameplay over the 'CG' versions. Mark looks ok in both though.
Never heard of this and first time seeing h-games discussed here on gaf.
Nice to see this here, but iam generally not interested in dating sims. Wether its a straight or a gay one i dont care. I would rather like to see gay options naturally built into a game without making such a big fuss about it.
So I played the game, but.. I never had a relationship/sex with anyone? The closest I got was tutoring Brad for a while but he got a low score and kicked me out? Am I supposed to be super thirsty to get some in this game? Say yes to everything and be all 'pleease fuck me'?
It really just ended when I though something was about to start. Best part was talking to Bip, my pet fish.

The thirst is real with Jed. He's the easiest one to have a sexy scene with. When you hear the loud noise coming from upstairs, make sure you're the one to check it out. The rest don't give it up right away. If you're not helping Brad cheat with his paper, there's only 1 one choice in dialogue you must give him so he won't fail his paper:
"You're screwed if you get injured and your football career comes to a grinding halt. That's the point."
And as a point of reference, if you see a sexy scene that involves Mark or your man giving oral service to the other's nether regions, it means the relationship route will close and you two will go their separate ways without the full ending. But there are still chances to go for another man this way. If you two end up having full blown sex, then you're on the right path for the true ending with the exception of Alex.

Well, this is a coming out story, so the gay elements will obviously be a big fuss. Other than that, it's all pretty natural. None of the romances felt forced and the game's humor stopped any overblown drama from developing. Plus, two of the love interests go through their own sexual awakenings alongside the MC, so it doesn't feel like a simple dating sim.

I finished this a few days ago, but I forgot to post my impressions.
Basically, I had a blast. I loved the writing and the characters, and the game has amazing presentation. I wish it was a bit longer, but I did get quite a few hours from it, so I'm satisfied. Looking forward to the new route Obscura is gonna be adding!
As far as rankings go:
Ian>Brad>>Phil>>Alex>>>>>>Jed
It was hard for me to choose between Ian and Brad. Brad is just adorable, but Ian is a tiny bit more closer to what I'd consider an ideal boyfriend.
Phil was great as well, just not on the same tier as those two.
Alex was alright. I liked his character a lot, but his route was a little boring.
Jed was... meh. I didn't care much for him, but he wasn't a bad character.

I got curious about this and ordered about some hours ago and still nothing, how much time did it take for you, guys? I'm getting somewhat afraid they are going to reject it or something like that

Bought the game this morning, and played through Alex and Brad's routes. They were my favorites in terms of appearance.
I did Alex's first because Brad kept getting a 69 on his test, but I couldn't get the full ending with him no matter how much I tried so I had to look up a guide.
I did enjoy his route but it was kind of boring overall, not much too exciting happened though it was still pretty cute.
Then I went back and did Brad's route and oh my goodness, he is just way too adorable!!! He's probably going to be my favorite overall in the end, but I still have to play through the other routes.
Really like the game so far!!! Though the CG thing is kinda noticeable with the different artist... Brad looked different in his CGs. Still hot! But different.
So there's going to be a gallery update soon apparently? I hope sooner rather than later, I'd go through the routes again for the unlocks!!!
Yeah, I've been waiting on it too. I want to unlock all the CGs while playing every route, so I've been holding off, despite how much I want to keep playing. O_O

It's worth keeping in mind that old saves won't be compatible when the game is updated. This was already the case with the first update which fixed some bugs.
Ian's ending was the cutest but I think I preferred Phil's story and ending the best. He is a bit of a stiff as you can imagine a closeted guy around a load of macho straight meatheads would be but he mellows out the more you get with him.
