Electronic Arts today announced, Command & Conquer The First Decade, one of the largest PC franchise compilations to date. Scheduled for release in February 2006, the title celebrates the 10th anniversary of this innovative franchise. This special collector's edition will include a dozen of your favorite C&C games spanning over the last ten years plus a bonus DVD of commemorative video features.

With over 23 million units sold worldwide to date, the C&C franchise has defined the Real-time strategy (RTS) genre with cutting-edge visuals, epic storylines, and rich mission complexities. The series has evolved over a decade, spawned over a dozen titles, and continues to be the genre benchmark by which all RTS games are measured. With its explosive style of warfare, the C&C franchise has grown over the years to span multiple fictional genres, including the science fiction Tiberium universe, the revisionist history of the Red Alert universe, and a twist on modern warfare with Command & Conquer Generals.

Fuck yeah.

What a coincedence, too, because I was just going through my old PC games and decided to give away all of my pre-Generals C&Cs to people. Now I'll probably give away Generals, too.

I hope this collection means we'll be getting versions of Red Alert 2, Red Alert, and C&C that run in normal time on XP. If so, this is fucking great. I tried installing RA2 and Tiberian Sun again a while back, and I don't think I could get one of them to run, and the other one played in a constant state of fast forward.

C&C died at the very moment EA put their pawns on Westwood.

I have all the classics here, and there's no way I am going to give my money to EA for the franchise they ruined so diligently.

I seem to remember something about Red Alert 3 being in the works using the Generals engine. I spent many MANY hours playing Red Alert 2 when it was released. I can't find the discs now, though. I'd love to play RA2 again. If there was a RA3 in this pack, I'd be so happy... Generals was a nice idea, but the implementation lacked in some ways.

Holy crap... this is sploogeworthy.
I take it they'll all run marvellously under XP?

Doubtful, EA never does that for the other compilations they've released over the years.

EA has the C&C license? Then there is no damn excuse why there hasn't been a DS version of Red Alert announced yet. DS is made for games like C&C yet we all we get from EA is port number 107 with another unccessary map screen or a virtual lock-pick simulator.

Indeed... this is like EA is trying to cash in on someone elses hard work. Die mofo's!

This feels so apt here

Origin creates worlds
EA destroys them

Oh Please! I think EA is as uncreative and money grubbing as the next guy, but even fucking blizzard never released a budget collection of all their Warcraft games at 39.99. This collection has every single Command and Conquer game going back to the original release and including both of their still 20 dollar Generals games, and their expansion packs. I agree EA has been pretty shitty to the franchise, and has all but killed it off, but this shows they still have interest in the franchise, and might even start it up again. I get Jaded, I am too, but I don't get cutting off your nose to spite your face.

February 2006? Have I just not been paying attention, or has EA done a good job of keeping this under wraps?

I haven't played Generals. Please tell me they're not Warcraft 3-corrupted and that they don't have heroes or anything like that? I love W3, but I dislike how the idea of heroe characters has been copied by other RTS games.

Gernerals is pretty standard C&C stuff. They didn't change the direction as much as Blizzard did with WarCraft 3.

It's developement could be heralded by this collection.

Well, it was under development. They announced it about a year ago, but in the spring some of the top designers on the game left EA. I believe at least one of them went over to Blizzard. Since that time nothing has been heard about the game's development.

* Command & Conquer™Red Alert™
Oh yeah! I still have the 4 disc soundtrack to Command & Conquer, Command & Conquer Red Alert, Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun, Command & Conquer Red Alert 2.

I already have every one of those games anyway (except generals, which blew chuncks).

I just want another Renegade for online goodness. I think I'm the only one.

No you are not, I <3 C&C mode. I played that to death.

Wake me up when there's a genuine next-gen C&C that actually have significant effort put into it that the franchise deserves.

Don't you think Command & Conquer has said all it's needed to say in its first decade? Can't they just cut the series off here and call it "The" decade?

Wait a second, lemme get this straight. How is it "fan-focused" and "rewarding the community" when the fans already have all of the games? Are they asking the fans to pay $39.99 for some dvd extras, in which one of them is going to be fan-made? That's actually kind of insulting. This is more like trying to get some new audience to try out the games and milk every last freaking drop the franchise has left since EA took over.

This is awesome news. Really. I've been meaning to get the series since my brother moved out but never got around to it. It's by far my favorite RTS series (I like SC before you people start).

Red Alert 3 fell apart when the majority of the staff quit EA to form Petroglyph. Whatever was left over got shuffled onto Battle for Middle Earth 2.

Reads posts, remembers awesome track, plays hell march.

Actually just thinking back, the whole premise and intro to Red Alert was just very cool. Thanks from helping me grab that from my mental rolodex :)

Hell March is one of the milestones of videogame music. I remember how much it impressed me, Westwood's combination of high quality audio (no more crappy MIDIs!) and CG talent was amazing in C&C, but Red Alert simply blew it away.

I suggest you to dust off your C&C discs. The game is very dated but it's still a blast to play, I still give it a shot when I'm bored of today's games.

This better work on XP. I will buy this immediately. God, Red Alert was such an amazing game. The first time I played it over a friend's house and heard Hell March...I knew I needed that game. First PC game I really loved. Hell March 2 is pretty sweet as well.

It's not like it's the first time EA have done a C&C compilation. They're missing Sole Survivor, by the way, but I think that's a good thing :)
