Well, the hypnosis and caterpillar tears were a little off-putting but how can you watch that and not be completely confused as to why there is a dad and son caterpillar duo?

Caterpillars are all "babies" it's just weird and completely unanswered for. At least with the crying and hypnosis it's obviously all done to show that both of them want that specific tea leaf. They never explain why that Caterpillar never turned into a butterfly/moth, why couldn't the two caterpillars just of been friends? Why?!?
