Lol, this is great

That remix is about as sexist as the real thing. Also, what's with the dorky pink nerd glasses? Were they in the original as well?

Depicting Barbie as incompetent computer engineer, failing at getting what a computer engineer actually does. Just sad.

You think that was more realistic

What is your point exactly? Other than refusing to use periods to end your sentences. It is trying to be 'more realistic' by not having Barbie be on a date in Ken's Corvette or something stereotypical of old-school Barbie. There is clearly an effort being made to put her in a more common workplace environment.

She's incompetent because she got a virus? Pretty sure the angle there is that it isn't her fault. And needing help on creating a game doesnt make someone incompetent.

The issue is that in a book called "I can be a computer engineer", Barbie does literally every possible thing wrong. She doesn't have security software on her PC, she spreads a virus around like an idiot, she makes statements suggesting that she'll obviously need the help of others to turn her ideas into a "real game" (because there's no chance she might be able to learn to code, right?), she relies entirely on the help of others to fix her simple PC problem, and ultimately she takes credit for both fixing her sister's computer and making a game, which were both done in large part by others.

In a book called "I can be a computer engineer".

Meaning a tech environment. It's not about princesses and other stereotypical Barbie arenas, yes. What is hard to understand about that?
I'm a woman who works in a tech environment and who frequently has to coddle incompetent male developers because they can't do much without help.

So, again: what exactly are you saying about "realism"?

So we should overcompensate in the other direction every single time instead of just starting from a blank slate and telling more realistic stories to and for girls, like this one was trying to do?

What is exactly the other direction? To show her as competent? Is that overcompensating for you?

Amazing how this needs to be spelled out every time. It's like saying there's nothing wrong with the damsel in distress trope because, "what's wrong with helping the poor princess? you want her to die instead?". Ugh, that's not the fucking point.

Morrigan, I'm a fan.

I also love the other defence/excuse that gets tossed: "Well we love ladies, of course we want to save them, we risk our lives because we love them". x)

Some of the rebuttles to Anita's FemFreq. gaming videos (I'm not saying I'm a complete fan of her either though) are incredibly amusing for making the point completely.

Good PMs get none of the credit when we do our jobs properly and all of the blame for when bad PMs screw up.

Good PMs! <3

Honestly there isn't as much bad PMs as there are people under pressure making bad decisions.

this thread is going towards the devops reactions tumblr and I approve of that fact

This is what I said from my post above --

I was simply referring to the work environment space.

Barbie creates a game in this strip and then gets a virus, then needs some help getting it removed. I'm not really sure that's the most 'unrealistic' thing I've ever heard. I wonder if she had mentioned asking two girls for help instead of two men, would this have been as big an issue. Probably not.

Are you backpedalling? Anyway, people want more realism, don't understand where you get your problem from.

Trust me, there are some bad PMs out there. How they keep getting jobs I don't know, but a lot of the time they work contract-to-contract.

Care to explain?
The remix establishes that Skipper is a talented artist. But now she has to become a physicist, because art isn't manly enough or something. Not that there's anything wrong with women working in physics of course, but this is straight up garbage, because the intent is fucking obvious. Neither the original nor the remix encourage girls (or people in general) to be who they are and do what they want.

So your defense is that it could be worse? That it's not 100% bad, there's a little bit of positive? There's no need to downplay how obviously shit the book is. And if you want to talk about realism

1) a computer engineer is not a game designer
2) there are tons of female programmers out there, it wouldn't even have been unrealistic if she asked a girlfriend for help
