The CONCACAF Gold Cup (also known as the Copa Oro) is a twelve nation international football/soccer competition scheduled to take place 7-26 July 2015.

With the exception of Canada, Mexico and USA, all teams have qualified via regional international tournaments to qualify for the Gold Cup.

United States have been the host for every version of the competition since it's inception in 1991. The competition takes place every two years. The reason being it's the most lucrative for CONCACAF. Mexico have hosted some games in the past, this time around, Canada will host two Group B games in Toronto.

USA are the 2013 champions, they will play the winner of the 2015 edition to determine who will play in the FIFA Confederations Cup. Should USA win the 2015 edition of the CONCACAF Gold cup, they'll automatically qualify.

The final will take place in Philadelphia at the Lincoln Financial Field. At the press conferences to announce it earlier this year, Philadelphia Eagles President Don Smolenski admitted he didn't know which way up the trophy was supposed to be and confessed he had had it upside down on his shelf until Jurgen Klinsmann clarified the situation.

The above is a statuette given to the host. This is how the much larger trophy looks when it's the correct way up:

Oh man, I didn't even know we had a thread for the Gold Cup. This should be fun :D
Vamos Mexico!
Sucks that Chicharito will miss it though :(

I read on La Prensa Grafica (Salvadorian newspaper) that they expect this Gold Cup to have a hidden prize of two slots to next year's (hopefully not cancelled) Copa America. If USA, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Jamaica were to take 4 of the 6 CONCACAF slots there'd be two more up for grabs based off this tournament.

Again, that all comes to nothing if the tournament is cancelled due to corruption investigations.

So, I may go to game tomorrow in Frisco. Any other GAF'ers going?

You may be out of luck.

DALLAS (July 6, 2015) – CONCACAF today announced that all tickets have been sold for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup kickoff doubleheader in Dallas tomorrow, Tuesday, July 7 at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, TX. Group A begins its Gold Cup run in Dallas with Panama facing Haiti at 6:00 p.m. CT, followed by USA versus Honduras at 8:30 p.m. CT.

Organizers encourage fans with tickets to arrive early and enjoy Futbol Fiesta, the fan interactive zone located in the Gold Lot starting at 4:00 p.m. Parking lots will open at 3:00 p.m., and stadium gates will open at 5:00 p.m. All times local. The Gold Cup will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, UniMás, UDN, and can be heard on the Fútbol de Primera radio network.

I should go to the final in Philly, seeing as I live there... but I take the bar exam on the 28th and 29th. So... that's not happening. Big shame.

Honduras is actually going to be a good game. They have some talent. Looking forward to this.

I wish Fox pushed more of their coverage to prime stations. I don't get fox sports two and it'll look like I'll have to watch it on my phone.

You may be out of luck.

Wait, OP says the game is at 7:30 EST, article says 9:30 EST. I'll have to research a bit.

Edit: US Soccer site has the game at 9:30 EST

I Hope Mexico wins and later beat USA to go to Confederations Cup, but this moment USA players seem to be better connected as a team.

I guess this cup will end :

No 1 : USA
No 2 : Mexico / Costa Rica
No 3 -4 : Jamaica / Panama / Honuras

The only scenario when Mexico wins this cup is if Vela, Gio and Guardado are well connected and play at 100%

The choice between Fox Sports 2 and Univision Deportes is an obvious one for me.

Does FS2 even have an HD feed yet?

Man Costa Rica has been getting some really weak results lately... but eh, the other teams are generally on the same level as us, so I guess we might as well see some positive results.

Do you think it's Wanchope or something else?

They played great against Colombia and Mexico but didn't manage to get results.

I was disappointed they got rid of Pinto, but I'm not really passionate enough to get up in arms about it or blame every single of the team's shortcomings on that alone like some people. It did feel sleazy, though.

And yeah, they haven't been playing badly, they just can't win for the life of them. Maybe we're doomed to become CONCACAF's Spain.

Canada is the worst-ranked team in this tournament, we just qualified as co-hosts.

*gulp*

on the other hand El Salvador is in the same group so maybe you guys can get best 3rd.

El Salvador has recently played valiantly against Chile, Spain, and Argentina despite how bad they look on paper. Yes, we did poorly against St. Kitts and Nevis, but I still think we can surprise some people.

Meanwhile, Canada is riding a winning streak but against weak opposition.

I wouldn't be surprised by any results from Group B.

So, is Javier Hernandez completely out for Mexico?

That blows.

Time for Vela, Gio Two Saints combination to shine

Like they did at the u-17 world cup.

Mexico does not have a consolidated team as USA but players like Gio,Vela and Guardado at 100% are game changers

A final with Costa Rica in it is more likely than one without.

Mexico has been poor as of late, and about to look worse without Chicharito.

However, their group should be easy to dismantle.

More than likely Mexico will not be on Costa Rica's side of the bracket. Honduras and Panama could give them trouble.

I hope it won't be the same final as years gone by. I hope Costa Rica follow on from their WC form last year.

People always sleep on Mexico. I still remember the World Cup thread.
They won't make it out of the group phase.
Croatia are going to easily beat Mexico.
Netherlands are going to destroy Mexico.

They'll be fine.

Mexico tends to perform better when we are the underdogs. It costs us a lot against countries who bunker up, like Cuba or the US. :p
