Hey GAF, you get impressions before my website because I'm too tired to collate my thoughts into something worth reading!!
MadWorld
Holy hell, this game looks DELICIOUS. They had it running on two TVs, and while one looked like all the rest of the Wii shit, the other was properly calibrated and runing on component, and... you could mistake it for a 360 game. So sharp and bright, it looks immaculate.
Its hella fun, its like God Hand but less difficult and lots more Wii Remote action. You can pick up a load of stuff from the environment, like street signs, barrels, tires etc, and smash them into guys. You can also pick people up, and chuck them, hammer throw them, chainsaw them in half.
Its like God Hand, but with Okami's visuals, and a little No More Heroes for good measure.
You punch by waggling, chainsaw with B, pick up with A, throw by waggling... you do a lot by waggling. There are a bunch of onscreen commands so its a little QTE-based, but normally just waggling.
The game is all about points, and you get points for exciting kills. A chainsaw down the neck will net few points, but if you put a tire round there arms, impale them with a Caution sign and then throw them into a dumpster, you'll be rolling in pointage.
It has multiplayer. Did you know that? I didn't know that. You unlock mini games like the "turbinator" where you lob dudes into a plane's engine, and something called Rocket Reamer. That doesn't sound healthy.
The hip hop soundtrack works perfectly and the John Dimaggio/Greg Proops commentary is fantastic. This is gonna rock fellows.
The Conduit
Pretty fun, didn't get to play too much but something thats important is customisation. You can alter the onscreen HUD and controls, but most importantly:
You can tweak the Wii Remote's settings to an insane degree, and you get to test it dynamically as you alter settings, to get the movement perfect.
It controls real well, and within seconds I was popping headshots and nailing everyone in the room. Grenades are on the old nunchuck shake. Thats not a dance, but it could be.
The story is a little odd, and you solve puzzles with this floating magic-eye-torch-thing where you hold up a alien eye and scan for hidden objects.
Its very Goldeneye, very Perfect Dark, a great FPS but the world/story and graphics (but the game is early, Fall 2009) leave a little to be desired. I was playing Killzone 2 like three hours before though, so that might have coloured my impression.
Questions?
I also played House of the Dead: Overkill, and interviewed the designers (I'll try and turn that into a story soon) but the game is like... out, so we'll leave that.
