No it wasn't. They were standing, Conor lunged for a takedown, Nate took control from there.

The setup Nate did was all on the ground, which has zero relevance to how a boxing match might go.

That takedown was a result of Conor losing in the standup.

What? Formless is absolutely right. Conor gassed, slowed, dropped his guard and was getting tagged with hard shots by Nate, which prompted him to go into panic grappling mode and get submitted.

After he'd been tagged clean on the chin with those gloves. Virtually any fighter hit clean on the chin, with power, and especially if they are not expecting it is going to be rocked badly.

But, I mean, MMA fighters do all that ground game stuff that requires a tons of stamina. I think it's more a question of mental stamina. Floyd has always had incredible mental stamina when it comes to strategies. He just doesn't take chances.

A badly faded Mosley did rock Floyd, but it just it happening here at all. I think Floyd might just kick his ass and get a technical KO. More likely he will pot shot him till the end when it gets too much for McGregor.

But can you imagine if McGregor ko's Floyd?

Call it hyperbolic but I agree with Michael Bisping in that it would effectively kill the sport of boxing and put significantly more eyes on MMA. If a guy from that world comes over and beats a 49-0 undefeated boxer it makes a huge statement.

So basically have Conor approach this like every other Floyd opponent? Conor should just sit back, show up and enjoy the show because he's not going to do shit but get punched and get paid. He has absolutely nothing in his arsenal to bother Floyd. No jab, no reach and size. Floyd sleepwalking to UD12

He does have both size and reach on Floyd.

The build is just going to be insane. The press conferences, the shit talk, the documentaries... the hype on fight night. As shit as Pacquiao/Mayweather ended up being, it was fucking ELECTRIC that night. I expect this to be the #2 biggest PPV of all time after Mayweather/Pacquiao.

It's going to be way bigger than Mayweather/Pacquiao.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

I expect the biggest consecutie sigh of disappointment afterwards

It's amazing how, despite the reality of the situations and all realistic expectations, everyone is so hyped because of that .0001 chance that some insane history will be made. Even though it will most likely in every way be a really boring and disappointing fight, the hype is a fun ride and I'm holding my breath for the first round lol.

Floyd about to collect some more money off fools who thinks he's going down in this. Conor about to get paid too. He knows he has zero chance, but who cares. He can retire after this.

I honestly feel bad for people like you who see money as the only measure of someone's intelligence or worth.
I feel even worse for people like you throwing a tantrum over something as pointless as this.

I honestly feel bad for people like you who see money as the only measure of someone's intelligence or worth. Donald Trump has multiplied his coffers by being elected, so I guess he has a brilliant mind too. Take two steps back and you'd realize there's actually very little smarts behind an incredibly rich person becoming richer.
Floyd got to where he is through a lot of hard work and talent, but he isn't smart. He might have hired smart people to manage his money for him, but the man himself is one of the worst living examples of a sports celebrity. A vile person in every way.
This is what "throwing a tantrum" looks like? Both of these statements just look like insincere empathy being used to express opposing opinions.

McGregor may get a lucky punch in, but that's about it... Unless Floyd has seriously regressed in his retirement, then this is going to be a boxing clinic. Generalists will not beat specialists most times. If he was really that skilled in boxing, he wouldn't be in MMA. He'd be in boxing where he'd be making much more money. This is a circus match.

Love when people bring up Nate. Nate is longer, taller and has a god tier chin. He can not be knocked out with a headkick for christs sakes.

Floyd isnt as long, tall and doesnt have a such a chin.

And that will still most likely not matter in the slightest.

Unless Money May became an old man in the past year (absolutely possible), he will touch up McGregor however he wants in the ring.

Also, someone, anyone edit the title because it keeps getting me each time it's bumped lol

Let's just get the current world strongman holder, have him get giant gloves maybe the size of potato sacks, and weigh Floyd's boots down with cement.

That's the only way I see someone knocking him out.

Time's running out on Mayweather. Personally, as much as I love a good circus fight, I hope he stays retired and doesn't have to be carried off like so many other greats who didn't know when it was time to actually stop.

Father Time is undefeated.

I hope he takes it and gets laid the fuck out. Would be such a sweet blemish on his record. Almost beat Rocky Marciano's record, came out of retirement, and lost to someone from a different discipline. Would love to see Conor take his soul.

I think this fight will be real boring. Mayweather does a LOT of running against southpaws. Like the Pacquiao fight, he will be in and out before McGregor knows it, he will be shoulder blocking those jabs all night. It's not the kind of style McGregor is used to dealing with at all. And if that straight left does connect, Mayweather has historically had good defence even when shook

McGregors best chance is if he pisses him off enough he gets an unexpected overreaction like against Aldo.

And I say this as a McGregor fan.

I can't see it being boring at all. McGregor will get lit up. Mayweather will dominate and put him down whenever he wants to put on the pressure. Boxing and MMA fans will be on the edge of our seats watching McGregor get slaughtered. One sided fights can be exciting. Just like the Pride days lol.

my money would be on a mcgregor KO or mayweather decision. i'm looking forward to the trash talking more than the actual fight, though.

This fight doesn't excite me much, apart from the sheer novelty value. Boxing just bores me. Sport is in dire need of rules to punish hugging/clinching, which seems to be 90% of every match I watch.

Even if Connor wins, this isn't like 5 years ago where it would be incredibly impressive. Floyd is, 40, retired, shorter, smaller, lighter

How is he shorter?! He's 40, not 90.

Nah Mayweather won't risk it, he will play it safe as alway. Especially as McGregor is a fantastically quick and precise counter puncher. Even if his boxing skills aren't as good. Mayweather simply won't put himself in range for danger

"even if Connor wins..."

There's no "if" here. This is Michael Jordan at bat against Roger Clemens. This is Brock Lesnar trying to get at Michael Vick. Unless Floyd actually directly prat-falls into MacGregor's fist, there's no chance this will be in any way competitive.

I might have to watch it for the spectacle, but I can script this shit now and it will go exactly that way.

Check out Lomachenko, I think he is the most exciting thing to happen to boxing in decades and is doing things to change the sport

Does anybody else see Connor getting frustrated a few rounds into the fight and just tackling Floyd to the ground and elbowing him in the face? Like shit what would he have to lose really?

If Floyd just pot shots him and stick and moves to a boring victory that would be pathetic. He is fighting someone who hasn't had a single pro boxing fight. He should knock him out.

Conor is a lefty and has a straight left, the punch Floyd likes the least by far. Pretty much the one punch his shoulder roll stance doesn't really account for. But it won't make a difference.

I am pretty sure it's going to be a boring fight, that will just fleece UFC and some boxing fans. I honestly, don't think the hardcore boxing public is interested at all. Floyd has always used popular opponents to bolster his numbers, as he isn't exactly an exciting fighter at all.

Conor is in his physical prime as a man and over ten years younger. If he lets a 40 year old man pot shot and play keep away then he is a joke. I'm not saying Conor will win but if you're the bigger younger man the game plan should be relentless search and destroy getting rough in the clinch pushing Floyd off him by the face with his glove and punching in the clinch when Floyd tries to hold.

Being outboxed by Floyd Mayweather when you have never had a professional boxing match before in your life does not make you a joke.

Canelo was/is in his prime and Floyd easily beat him exactly like how the poster you quoted said. Canelo a pure boxer who has been boxing professionally since he was 15.
Mcgregor will have an even tougher time than Canelo did trying to land on Floyd.

Giving a non effort or having a stupid game plan against a 40 year old with brittle hands way past prime Mayweather makes you a joke. If Conor is the athlete he says he is then an athlete 12 years his senior shouldn't be able to play keep away or out muscle him in the clinch.

Canelo was 23 years old. That's not physical prime for any male. Canelo's mistake was as you said trying to purely box Floyd. See the Maidana 1 fight for how to go about fighting Floyd. Relentless pressure, not afraid to get hit, rough in the clinch when Floyd tries to hold when you get up close. Maidana was a brawler and not very skilled as a fighter. Floyds even older now and coming off a long lay off. Conor is 12 years his junior and a naturally larger guy.
