Rev up them attack ads; it's election season!

CTV said:
In the online ad, posted on the Conservative Party’s Facebook page, Trudeau is shown in a CBC interview saying he would end the CF-18 bombing campaign against the terrorist group, also known as ISIS or ISIL. The ad uses Islamic State propaganda, including gruesome images of prisoners facing death by drowning and beheading -- and those images may actually violate the government’s own anti-terror law.

The new C-51 legislation gives a judge “the power to order the seizure of terrorist propaganda or, if the propaganda is in electronic form, to order the deletion of the propaganda from a computer system.”

“Here they are using the music and images of a terrorist organization. So not only does it undermine decency, but it undermines the credibility of the Conservatives on their own bill,” NDP MP Paul Dewar told CTV News.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Stephen Harper continued the political attack Thursday during remarks to reporters in Quebec City.
Harper suggested Trudeau would cut relations with Canada’s coalition allies in the fight against Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. He also accused Trudeau of wanting to “become best friends” with Iran, “one of the state sponsors of terrorism in the world.”

On Thursday, Trudeau reiterated his position.
“We just don’t necessarily do it in the way Mr. Harper doing by dropping bombs; there’s much we can do around training and humanitarian support,” he said.

The attack ad in question.

Rename the government of Canada after me if old.

Harper is such a piece of fear mongering shit. It's nice to see all his lieutenants bailing ship.

Not to mention the "he's got nice hair though" digs at Trudeau, whatever you think of his politics, are so unprofessionally condensing.

BAH. Fucking attack ads altogether piss me off. /minirant

I'm getting constant political ads on YouTube now. I'm assuming they're Conservative ads, the gist of them is complaining about Mulcair and his "union pals"

I can't fucking stand how much my pride in being Canadian has dwindled in the past ten years. Argh.

Considering Canada passed same-sex marriage as legal over the past 10 years and the USA is only catching up today, it's not TOO bad.

It's still been bad.

Harper is scum.

Harper took advantage of the two domestic terrorist attacks last fall for political expediency and has been trying to hammer this notion that his two main opponents are not only soft on terror but embrace terror

This level of low is disgusting and unCanadian on the part of a statesman

Now Canadians are waking up to Harper's strategies and say NO.

Conservative support has been dropping for the past month without any room to grow.

I hope we either get an Liberal majority or an NDP majority this October so that we can spend the next 4 years Conservative free

I love cats too, but loving cats isn't enough to win votes

Same Sex Marriage legalization was the last handing work Jean Chretien left over that got the Okay in the Supreme Court when Paul Martin was in charge. That would never have happened if Harpo was in charge at the time.

Don't forget, that it was NDP who made a vote of No Confidence against Paul Martin's government that ended up giving us 9 years of Conservative Harper

Pride is still there for me, especially when you compare to our neighbours (America shows how bad it could be), but we are in our low point for sure. We are now getting beat by the Scandinavian countries considerably now instead of marginally at best before.

Both Canada and Australia are suffering this right now. Harper and Abbott are vile people that are harming our image. They need to go.

He has not once tried to repeal it on any level. It's quite an accomplishment, as terrible as his reign as Prime Minister has been.

The fact that a major political party would place it's driving electoral advertising force behind slander and sometimes straight out lies about the competition is pathetic, but not even nearly as pathetic as the fact that it actually WORKS for at least a large number of Canadians.

Whether Paul Martin was brought down then or 2 years later, the Liberals were done due to the sense of corruption.

How low can you go

You don't see shit like this even from the worst populist right wing parties where I'm from, this is really apalling

He said without a hit of hypocrisy with regards to the aggressive diplomacy (read: ass kissing) towards the KSA in order to sell them weapons.

Reading the Facebook comments....seems like a lot of people think like Harper, or love the guy.

One of them said he hopes Trudeau ends up in an ISIS cage, so that should show you what the kind of people who support the video think.

I still feel the Conservatives will win it.
I'm voting NDP, as the Liberals are going further right.

Hoping the Liberals/Conservatives split votes instead of NDP/Liberals.

Gilles Duceppe is back: so I'm voting for whoever is best to beat Duceppe again like in 2008

I am Federalist 1st, Liberal 2nd, sorry Justin, but NDP has the best chances to beat Duceppe in my riding

Block the Bloc

Yes, people who like a political party's Facebook page tend to be supportive of the content of said page.

White/rich Albertans and religious minorities are who the Conservative party cater to.

It's bizarre that the NDP's bite back was stronger than Trudeau's. What's the guy doing?

Trudeau did the mistake of surrounding himself with the Toronto handlers, he is doing the same mistake Iggnatief did. Listening to Toronto losers who don't know how to win

Harper needs to go. Not only because he's a major shithead, but because he's killing the Canadian economy by putting the eggs all in the resources basket when it's pretty obvious resources aren't going to last forever.

Trudeau hasn't done himself any favors that's true. From what I've seen people think he's an okay guy for the most part, they simply don't believe he has the talent and skill to do the job.

Know that commercial where it says he's just not ready? That's more or less the sentiment for a lot of people and he needs to show why it's otherwise.

That and the damage its doing to the environment.

My heart sinks every time I see after shots of the areas containing tar sands

Agreed, unfortunately, BC is falling into the same trap as well with the constant badgering of off-shore oil companies for their pet LNG projects.

One of my 60+ years old coworker told me, that as a conservative he is disgusted by Harper's government. Elections can't come sooner.

Rich, white Albertans couldn't stop the NDP from winning here, let's hope they fail to prop up Harper's government federally.

Mulcair actually seems most likely to become Prime Minister at this point. He's probably getting my vote. These ads are a desperation move on the part of the Conservatives, who are going to have to get every vote they can just to form a minority.

I've heard about a dozen times on the radio, an ad from the Conservative party: "Trudeau wants to legalize Marijuana. He's just not ready to be Prime Minister."

QUICK, EVERYONE VOTE FOR TRUDEAU.

I laughed so hard the first time I heard it, I thought it was a joke. How can they play that ad in Toronto where even the cops are generally okay with weed usage. A city known for its herb shops and cafes. Not to mention, the very same ad is fear-mongering, talking about how Trudeau "isn't doing ANYTHING to stop ISIS."

It's a joke. All of it.

Polls show that NDP can draw support form Liberal voters, same for Liberals drawing support from the NDP voters

COnservatives on the other hand have reached their ceiling and can't draw any support from voters from other parties.

If Justin fumbles big time during the debates (this what most of us are speculating), the NDP will get a boost of Liberal votes who just want to see Harper gone.

There is a conensus of wanting the Conservatives gone that is big enough to have votes bleed from Liberals to NDP just to see Harper out.

Duceppe's return is going to muddy the waters in Quebec, I hate the Bloc so much, waste of votes. God,

I love how the Conservatives are putting terrorism on the agenda to they can look at their opponents and accuse them of being weak on terror. Justin was the first victim of this when he was tricked into voting for C-51.

Absolutely nothing could be lower on my list of priorities right now than terrorism. (besides repealing C-51 if you count that as falling under "terrorism")

God damn that sickens me. Went as far as to call the video out on the page. I'm sure I'll be getting a knock on my door from CSIS/the RCMP because of it
