It's basically a preview of the new PS2/Xbox game, but they talked to Ed Logg and somebody who worked on Gauntlet Legends about the evolution of the series. Choice quote:
"A lot has changed since the days of 1984," says Logg. "Players are more sophisticated and have greater expectations mostly because the consoles provide a greater visual experience. They expect 3D camera angles with lots of visual effects. In other words, players expect Gauntlet to meet and exceed their favorite games now. In many cases this detracts from the basic rules and simplicity of the original game...it also makes the game harder for the general public because many people cannot handle three dimensions."

Wow. What UTTER crap.

I played this at E3 and can confidently tell you it STUNK to high heaven. How the fuck Romero still has work is beyond me.

Gauntlett Dark Legacy is a better game IMO.

... that has no need to be discussed here.

Actually, I do have a Gauntlet question which I never really found a good place to ask. Might as well do it here.

Does the arcade Gauntlet ever end? A pair of friends and I played the first one on MAT1 to like Lv110 or so and just gave up after a while. I swear I thought the game only had 100 levels. Seems sorta unfair that Gauntlet is an interminable quarter muncher; at least other games which were coded to rob you blind came to an end eventually.

... aside from the fact that it was referenced as an inspiration for elements of this (stupid) new Gauntlet game.
