Cooperative Board Games

My wife and I are looking for a new board game that we can play cooperatively. She does not like competitive games. We already have Pandemic, but are starting to get tired of it since it's our only cooperative games. I like adventure themed games. I actually own Gloomhaven, but I'm too intimidated to do more than open the box lol

Find games with a theme that you are interested in. If you like adventure, forbidden island might be a good option. I like flashpoint, it’s a fire fighter coop. My wife likes a game called horrified. It’s based on universal monster movies.

Try “Mechs Vs Minions”. A fun co-op programming game.

Open Gloomhaven. It's an amazing cooperative game. Other than that, I'd suggest Mice & Mystics and Spirit Island for some quality cooperative games.

Edit: Looking at my collection I'd also suggest Dead Men Tell No Tales and Power Rangers: Heroes of the Grid which are both cooperative.

If you have the time and money, there's a fantastic coop board game called Shadows of Brimstone.

Takes place in the wild west in which strange dark stones are found in the mines and it's caused a gold rush. Unfortunately, this has also caused bizarre horrors and creatures to emerge as well as portals to many dimensions. You play a group of adventurers doing missions into the mines to collect that stuff. It's difficult and no two trips into the mines play out the same. There is also a HUGE amount of additional content for the game. The more you add to it the better the game becomes.
The stories you get to tell of the strange things that happen along the way is a big part of the fun. I typically play with my wife and my first character was a dynamite throwing bandido. He became pretty deadly as he leveled but he suffered so many hits to his sanity that he could no longer stand the sight of even a single horror before passing out. We had to leave him at a town where I rolled a new character. Eventually we got comfortable enough where we run two characters each. Madness, mutation and death await.

If you want very light games I recommend forbidden island and forbidden desert. Do not get forbidden sky it is not good.
These game are made by the same designer that made pandemic so they still have the same mechanic of 'bad things happen to you from card drawn in between turns'.
In term of a bit heavier or different style gameplay my parter and I really like: Last bastion (or ghost stories same game with different theme); this one is like a tower defense dice rolling game.
We also like Atlantis rising 2nd edition, great mix of push your luck/worker placement, probably one of best coop game out there for me.

Some reviews to give you an idea:

If you are interested in a game that makes you feel stupid: Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective: The Thames Murders & Other Cases

And finally if you want something that will just take your money: Marvel Champions: The Card Game (or Arkham horror the card game but I prefer marvel).

I know not necessarily adventure theme games but these are solid coop, Robinson Crusoe mentioned above is supposed to be good as well as Spirit Island but these are heavier games and my partner would not enjoy them (same with gloomhaven, even for me that's too heavy I think).

We play Dead of Winter on occasion, along with Pandemic (might be a little close to home these days so we haven't played pandemic in a while)

Both are great coop games

Subbed to this thread.
Last week I played Legends of Andor for the 2nd or third time.

we played two legends. In the Basic game you have 5 legends (basically they tell the stories you have to finish with certain quests). Once you finish a legend you reset the board chose between 4 characters and start the next legend. We played Legend two again as we lost the first time we played. We beat it on the first try this time and went on to legend 3, where we again have lost the first time and then have beaten it on the second try.
The 2nd time it was fairly easy as we had luck with cards and the dice rolls.
To win a legend you have to have a certain amount of luck

Love this game as you have to think about the moves and it always feels like a tight race between winning and losing.
+ it’s fairly easy if you have started to play these kinda of games. I can clearly recommend it. There are quite some expansions out there and I read you have Fan legends online on the official website that the creators of this game approved.

in some of the expansions you get a new board with new heroes and obviously new stories/legends.

can highly recommend it.
Imho the biggest downside is that every legend you start anew. So your character is not really progressing. otherwise it’s great.

As I’m a beginner myself After finishing andor we’re planning on playing mice & mystics as I heard so many people praising it.

has anyone played the akrham horror games? We bought that but havent Played it as of now
