Could an FPS be made using the RE4 graphics engine?

It's a pretty solid engine, and for the most part, it kind of feels like an FPS anyway. On close inspection, it's all about the texturing. The lighting to me looks alright, as do tthe models. The texturing isn't AMAZING, but it's definitely where the look comes from. Overall, it's more about being greater than simply a sum of the parts.

So could an FPS be made from the RE4 engine? Maybe the engine isn't suited to faster action play, and the whole shooting while moving is a deliberate issue beyond gameplay mechanics (I'm sure a strafe could have been put in, technically, at least). Could the engine be adapted to use a dual analgoue inerface? I'm not saying that RE4 should've been an FPS or had such controls, but could a game in the traditional FPS mold be created usign the graphics engine? Would the small area loading work in an FPS? It's blazingly fast as it is.

I don't know why I ask, I'm just curious. I love RE4, and it did feel a lot like an FPS anyway, and I love the immersiveness of those kinds of games.

Well you could make an FPS using the Super Mario Sunshine engine in theory too. In other words, I don't see why not.

Seeing as how Capcom is a Japanese company though and how FPS are not popular in Japan, it probably won't happen.

Yes, I see what you mean, but part of what makes the RE4 graphics engine the way it is is the 'small levels' (you know, between loading - the village, that kind of thing), the nature of the pseudo widescreen, and possibly what I mentioned above (the control system - is it technically an abbreviated FPS system to allow for better graphics? - How much does control speed and input affect a graphics engine?). I imagine a MArio-engine FPS would have relatively low detail, but huge expansive environments. Woyuld an FPSin 'RE$-style' be a good idea? Keeping in mind thigns liek the fake widescreen, and small levels (but with fast load times).

Since we already know PN03 was made on an early RE4 engine, and i have a very strong feeling that Killer 7 is at least based on it as well, I don't see any reason why a "traditional" fps couldn't be done with it.

A splinter cell style shooter minus stealth on the RE4 engine would be incredible. Put in various rolls, a 180, maybe disarms or some form of cqc. I would rape mario for such a game.

You don't get it. RE4 IS AN FPS with the camera zoomed out a bit. You can't strafe and it doesn't play like quake at all pff.

Funny, I thought to be a FPS you had to be in first person point of view...
