Could there ever be another American revolution?

Do you ever see the US finding itself in a civil war? If so what do you think would be the factors.

I personally think there's a current issue that could make a sizable chunk of the population passionate enough to rebel/riot. They'd probably not even be able to put up a fight. But I do think in 15-20 years under the right conditions there would be huge disturbances.

A. A military draft.
B Some high-profile contreversial court case with race as a central issu.
C. Something REALLY crazy like GM/Microsoft etc. all being bought and liquidated by some foriegn interests.
 
A civil war? Who would be fighting who, where, and with what?

Nah I dont think we would every go to war with the British again.....

I think you mean a civil war, and no, I dont think those hippies aginst the war would want to sucede and start another war...
 
Conservatives keep talking about this cultural war. Maybe if in their perception, the evil government keeps taking away their rights to force Christianity on others, they will snap. :)

I'm really not educated on politics. But as heated as some campaigns get I just can't see Joe & Sally Suburb or Marco & Trina Downtown getting all passionate about political parties. Not enough to arm themselves over it at least.

I'm expecting the flames to come to me after this post, but this is a topic I find myself thinking about all too much lately. Do think it will happen? No. The reason is because the American people have become helpless and are unable break free from our dependency on the government. I'll explain later.
I think we do need a revolution or a modern day Boston Tea Party if you will. There are several reasons why, but the main reason is probably because the American people have no power. We are supposed to be the ones who decide what will and will not happen with our votes, but what good does it do when the government decides on what or who you vote for? Yeah some people can argue that people just need to be more proactive, but quite frankly, I don't think it would matter. The powers that be and the big businesses of this country will get their way regardless of what we write on a piece of paper. They already break the law every day. Why? Because it's cheaper. It's cheaper for a company to break the law (waste/polution is one example) and pay the fine than to obey the law. They have the money and the power to get what they want.
The big businesses have strayed so far that it would require a mighty change to get them to do the right thing. The government would have to be replaced and a new constitution as well. It's really too late to do this. We're in too far. It's like going back to living without the internet or cars or electricity. I think the only thing that will change this country is a war, but I don't think it will be a civil war.
 
Not in the forseeable future because no one really cares enough to do anything that might actually risk their lives.
 
It'd take quite a bit to start a civil war, and from what I can tell, the red and blue states have more in common, chiefly patriotism to start a war over anything. Europe would to go war against itself long before the Americans start another civil war.
 
Of course not. Are you crazy? Americans will get walked all over before that happens. I mean, really get walked all over. Like, no one would have to approve Bush. There are still too many 'believers' among teh Americanz!

But I do think that there needs to be some reform with representation. The largest reason for Civil War was the lack of representation for the southern states right? Well I think it's reversed now. I think that the blue states are not getting enough representation. They have such a large population, but are beaten out by the number of red states, and this basically hands over Senate to the Republicans.

I think the executive branch needs to be reformed. This "i won 50.05% of the vote, I get all the power" is bullshit.

There needs to be a third party somewhere between Rebublicans and democrats. Leaning toward libertarian ideas -- small government and low taxes and equal rights for all (which we don't have now).
 
The only way there'd be a civil war is if some mad scientist unleashed a huge robot/android army against the rest of the US and he had a few humans helping him out...

No. There were actually a couple honest replies to a completely hypothetical question.

There was also bullshit worthless replies like yours. If you don't appreciate the question there's tons of topics/messagboards on the internet full of inconsequential shit garbage for you to post in.

Can you imagine what happens if the Mexican immigrant problem is not solved. Eventually they will be the majority. A Mexican-American president in this scenario would cause a civil war.

Race will definately be an issue in the future. I can see plenty of race/civil wars popping up in the, especially in Europe. Just look at Eastern Europe - the whole Milosovitch debacle sprung directly from mass-immigration adversely affecting the native population in Kosovo.

I think in Holland for example, within one generation there will be more Muslim youths then there will be indigineous europeans and if their as radical and as bitter as the little bastards that bombed London, then that's a scary thought.

It's not hard for me to imagine civil rights continue to dwindle in this country, we did just get a permanant Patriot Act after all.

I can see security ramping up to the point where armed men check our national ID cards at random checkpoints, borders, airports.

I can see us living under some kind of modified martial law, where our movement and freedom is even more limited.

I'd like to think that Americans will fight back against this creeping decline in freedom, but the way things have been going, I get the feeling that not only will Americans tolerate this kind of thing, but they'll thank the politicians who serve it up.
 
Like Cockles, I foresee huge problems here in Europe. No civil wars in the immediate future, of course, but 50+ years from now? We are just getting way too many immigrants that are not being integrated at all. Unfortunately, it's a catch 22, because we need them to uphold our standard of living since we don't seem to be interested in making babies ourselves. If the current mood holds up, shit will hit the fan once immigrants primarily from the Middle East reaches 30%-40% of population levels. It's really, really scary.

Race shouldn't be the issue...the issue should be millions of people coming over here, using government services, not paying taxes, depleting the job market for the lower class, and potentially eventually increasing the population so much that we will have to enforce population control (which native born US don't need).

I'm all for immigration...legal immigration. Hard working, intelligent people that pay their taxes and contribute to our society. Bring them on over.

Should lazy, stupid, tax evaders who don't contribute to our society be kicked out, even if they were born there and have citizenship?
 
I'd say that if another civil war does occur in the future, based on what'd likely cause it, it's gonna be like war of the worlds in terms of the disparity.

Things that could likely bring forth a civil war or all out global chaos:

1.) Massive Automation of the workforce takes place(either do to intra-competition, or competition with other automated nations in the global market forcing it.). Basically the Rich&Powerful+the automated Military Complexes VS the average joe, who'd be living in the slums :lol

2.) Advent of Posthumanity, especially if they spouse extremely liberal cultural ideas(e.g. yo stds no more, gen-eng means incst carries no penalties = free for all. bonobo esque society :lol ). I just don't see religious conservatives tolerating better looking, more intelligent, far better athletes, longer lived, etc, basically better at everything people getting away with nirvana on earth and ignoring their so called pseudo-moral code. This could be brought about by the arrival of precise+safe gene therapies, and cheap full genome sequencers allowing statistics studies to reveal the genes behind complex traits. Supah million genius society powered by nano-bio-auto technologies vs dummies r' us

Both of these could very well occur in less than 50yrs (Good thing I see myself on the winning side on both counts :D )

I think when the civil war does come, the crack troops of the good side will be culled from those of us who play videogames and post on GAF, as we are in a particularly good spot to turn our noses down at the rest of America for dumb and lazy and not knowing what's best for everybody else.

The lazy can live in poverty...at least they pay some taxes. But that doesn't mean we have to take in tens of millions of illegal immigrants to consume our resources.

Tax evaders should be dealt with.

The stupid can't help themselves. We have jobs that they can do, but many employers now seem to prefer paying illegal immirants because they don't have to pay any taxes/paperwork. But that doesn't mean we should bend over and take the poverty of other nations.

I think that legal immigrants should pass strict qualifications to get in. Is that greedy? Perhaps, but it's better than being some idealist that thinks we can take in all of the 3rd world.

Poverty isn't always a direct result of laziness, in fact, I'd argue that most of our countries lazy live well above the povery line, while many below work their asses off for nothing.

I disagree. The people that work their asses off and remain poor are still lazy. They've never taken the time to teach themselves fiscal responsibility and investing. They've never taken the effort to learn to be frugal.

Then by all means go give out all your belongings to the poor. Let them live in your home. Take away opportunity from your children if you have any. Because taking the burden of the rest of the world would do something similar to America.

Believing it could never happen is pretty much as good as looking forward to Santa coming down your chimney.

Bingo! I'd buy that for a dollar!

On point 2.) the 'Posthumanity' effects listed are in fact just the tip of the iceberg. There's even more waiting around the corner, and virtually all of it custom designed to piss off, offend, or just outright terrify social and cultural conservatives (who are not all neccessarily religious).
 
If there is one, its probably a fight between Authoritarianism and Libertarianism. Personal choice versus Government responsibility. I can't see the American public being too happy about the growing power of the government, with neither major political party offering a more Libertarian solution.

We did? Last I checked many sections of it have to be renewed - just like the Voters Right Act which will have a variety of protests and marches here in Atlanta next weekend.

Lol, what in the hell.... Someone who is working fries at McDonalds or the register at Walmart has enough problems just getting by, they rarely have money to 'be responsible with' and rarely have any investment opportunities due to finances or their companies simply not offering programs.

I may be reading too much into what Cockles wrote but it is possible he is going all the way to the Middle Ages when Serbia lost to Turkey and what is now Kosovo began to receive Albanian immigrants, moving in with the Serbs already there. In that light, he considers Serbs to be the 'natives' and never mind all the other countries that screwed and gobbled up Serbia later, all of Kosovo's current problems stem from having a non-Serbian population there, over 500 years after the immigration happened.
