I worked with a guy that used to work the fashion industry on the sales side, although he didn't explicitly say that models had to put out because by then he'd moved on and had a wife and kids but the implication was that he had smashed a lot of them.
From my 2nd hand knowledge in the modelling industry it's very much "if you want this gig, you need to sleep with x" matter-of-fact conversations and not at all hush-hush, and not just for the women models either. In the case of my partner she was modelling to fund her university degree at the time and just kept hitting a glass ceiling of "well if you are not willing fuck these people, you'll just have the crumbs left over by those who are". You're basically an escort until you have made a name for yourself and can afford an agent.
During this time her mother also became very sick, so she was also using the money to pay for medicine and fund her education; what a shitshow. After I got her the fuck out of there her family married her younger sister (who was I think was only 14/15) off to a much older guy (in his 40s or 50's) for a dowry, I had to meet him a couple of times which was as uncomfortable as you could imagine; I don't think he saw himself as a gross pervert but as some white knight who's come to save this young girl and her family from a future of poverty.
I guess what I'm trying to explain is that in some parts of the world women really don't have much of a choice unless starving to death is a valid option. But then you hear about these girls in the USA who have 'sugar daddies' to fund their university education and are proud of it, so I'm probably too old and jaded to know who is taking advantage of who anymore.
