COVID 19 has led me to redefine myself

From what I've read, my state of Michigan is under fairly strict lockdown compared to a majority of the country. As a result, I've been spending a lot of time in self reflection, practicing mindful meditation, and just deciding who it is I want to be in my 30s vs who I was in my 20s.

One of my biggest character flaws is that I'm just sort of all fucking over the place as an individual. A real jack of all trades, and master of none. I feel like I'm stepping in all these directions and none of them are leading me anywhere because the next second I'm turned around and headed somewhere else.

With that said...

1. I've already made a thread about it, but I've quit buying dumb shit. There aren't any exceptions to this policy.

2. I'm tossing out 90% of my wardrobe. I'd donate it, but COVID 19, and I'm lazy. I have so many articles of clothing I don't even like. Tossing most of my band tees also. As a 30 year old dude, I really dont feel the need to walk around in some gruesome death metal tee.

I'm sticking with my black and grey plain tees and some dressier shirts for the office. Maybe a couple flannels and a few sweatshirts also (this is Michigan after all). Everything else must go.

3. I've gotten real strict with my diet again, and I'm lifting weight and doing cardio. I refuse to be a fat fuck. My BMI says I'm 5 lbs overweight but I feel morbidly obese. I want muscle definition and you bet your ass I'm going to get it.

4. I'm reading a lot now. Just the books I already have and never got around to. Whether its literature or comics, reading relaxes me in ways that few other activities can.

5. I'm practicing my guitar for a change. I suck ass, but it's cool to mess around with. I'm also planning on taking my DSLR camera out on warmer and refreshing my basic photography skills. I'm intrigued by bird photography but am unsure if my lenses are long enough.

I want to be a simpler person overall. No more bullshit.

Meh. Idk what I'm getting at really.

Anyone else re examining their lives as a result of this?

It may have taken a pandemic to get your life in order, but be damn proud you have taken that first step.

who reads books ? its 2020. Get one of those electronic watchamagiggi thingy...

My local library in my neighborhood sells paperbacks for 50 cents, and hardcovers for a buck. Between that, thrift shops, and garage sales - I've amassed a mini library with various shelves all over my house as a result: Classics, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. I'm definitely someone who appreciates the physicality of a novel.

Thanks man, it means a lot. This has happened before. I tend to get in shape, and laser focus my interests. In turn, I become more confident and start attracting women who are out of my league.

Then I get heartbroken and fat lol. I'm hoping I'm wiser this time around. Definitely far more sober and well paid lmao. Just glad I'm on an upswing again.

I can't help it. lol Doesn't help summer is hell here so i'm stuck inside the house. :(

I understand.

I've been posting on forums since I was 13 years old in 2004. I'm 29 now, which means I've spent more years with an account on one message board or another for longer than I have without one. I've even retained a few genuine online friendships and met up with a few forum mates while visiting Chicago prior.

Still, I can't help but wonder if I'd have been better off never coming across these type of communities. So much time wasted typing into the void with nothing to show for it. Even playing video games feels more productive.

Yes, actually. I'm mostly working on losing some weight and picked up drawing again but I also need to try meditating. I like to go outside when we get good warm weather too.

You really should donate it instead of just throwing it out.

It required little change for my wife and I. We both already worked from home more days than not and had our incomes unaffected by this. We also largely dislike people and while we miss hanging out with our small circle of close friends and having some beers at our regular bars, the absence of forced interactions with coworkers and strangers more than offsets that.

Only real downside has been out retirement accounts tanking, but even those have done better the last month, though still below where they were prior to the pandemic.

Another change has been lack of sports and concerts. But that’s also been positive in that we’ve realized we’re just as happy not doing that stuff and paying crazy ticket prices.

Who is even taking clothing right now though?

I have no idea, yeah maybe there are more restrictions on that shit currently. Just sayin'. I'd keep em in a bag until shit cools down unless you need the room. I've always liked to donate anything that was still usable if I wasn't going to wear it rather than just throw it out, generally I use these Salvation Army drop-off bins I have around where I live or take them to one of their stores.

Nah I'm working 60 hours a week. So on the weekends I do things like avoid quarentining to have fun and stay sane.

I'm pretty perfect the way I am though 😁.

But congrats on your transformation, always a good thing.

I'm doing the opposite. I'm using this lockdown as an excuse to eat all the crap I rarely ever eat and I've gained weight. Not worried though, it's easy for me to lose weight on a low carb diet.

Be careful with that logic. You'd be shocked how quickly that fat will creep up on ya.

Congratulations OP. Those all sound like incredible steps and I hope you remain steadfast with each and every single one.

Nice, good for you. That's a really positive way to spend the shutdown

I can't say I'm being as productive. I actually had things going really well heading into what was supposed to be my wedding day on 5/2 and unfortunately we had to postpone, and now I'm just kind of in survival mode. I do plan on getting back into shape. Been eating too much bullshit and drinking too much.

With or without CV, sounds like you're being a grown up *gasp*. Seriously, hope you figure out the priorities in life and keep on growing. FYI, vidya games are luxury items which I'm not giving up.

I don’t really like the beer that much, was just drinking one when I signed up on that account and didn’t put much thought into user name. Also don’t like the name much as I’m pretty far from bro, dude bro or whatever stuff. I do love Star Wars though!

I didn’t know there was a beer called that, I thought it was your brainchild lol. You may not think you’re a bro dude. But dude, you’re a bro😂

Tossing a lot of this clothing is proving more difficult than I anticipated. Whatever the stupid part of my brain is that gets sentimental for concert shirts or pajama pants gifted to me by an ex can rot in Hell. Makes it hard to stay objective.

I'm also 30.
There are shirts other than band tees?
I don't get it.

Are you sewing your own shirts, or something?
