Crashlands [OT] Rated T, for too much sass (PC/iOS/Android)

Couple questions:

  • If I usually find crafting systems annoying, would I like this game?
  • I'm thinking about getting this game specifically for my (Android, 5.5") phone. Would I be way better off getting it for my (10") iPad?

I also don't really enjoy crafting games and I'm not sure I'm getting all the praise in here. It hasn't hooked me. It's cute and competent as a game but outside of that I'm not compelled to play much.

I should've pushed more to see if this game was to my tastes. It's something I would've downloaded for free just to try out but at 4.99 I feel, so far, that I may just ask for a refund.

Anyhow, as of this moment, I'm going to keep giving it a chance :)

Playing on 6s Plus and this game is just pure gold.

The writing is charming has heck, as are the visuals. The gameplay loop is friendly and addictive. Great combo of resource collecting & quest-based adventuring. Plenty fine examples of both out there, but I've rarely seen them mixed together.

Best mobile game in months!

I'm at the third continent now. Still loving the game, but my impressions have diminished a bit.

The first 5 hours of the game are sublime. New discoveries around every corner.

Unfortunately, going through the second continent, the pattern becomes quite obvious and the lack of depth hurts the game a bit. The crafting system is never used to its full advantage. The most disappointing thing is farming for an hour for a legendary weapon, only to have it outclassed in 30 minutes once you reach the next crafting tier.

I'm at nearly 20 hours now. This is quite a long game. To be fair, this is my breaking point for most games. It's hard to hold my interest past 15-20 hours.

Just got to the exact same point... games fun, but the 2nd world added really nothing new to the 1st world... which is kinda disappointing.

I'll probably still finish it, maybe.. but not sure I want to do everything all over a 3rd time now in the Tundra...

I have the same fears, but I play the game with sort of this feeling of "no time scale" in the same way I was playing my minecraft. I play for 30 minutes at a time at lunch or when I'm on the shitter. I accomplish little tasks and then save it for some other time.

I'm glad i'll have a little carrot on a stick for the foreseeable future.

Just about to head to the second continent and all of the shortcomings of the game are glaring me in the face. It's a lovely game that I find something losing hours to, but it needs a LOT of work (I'm on iOS, for reference). The quest log is awful, the crafting system is largely pointless and mostly frustrating (as someone mentioned above, what's the incentive to craft a great weapon when 30 minutes later you have the ability to craft something better?), the map is far from user friendly, farming is god awful, the lack of resource management is weird, the craft log is annoying, etc etc etc. I am still enjoying myself, but it's beginning to feel more like I'm wrestling with the game than playing it.

Yeah, the flaws are obvious... mostly due to the timing of upgrades are jacked up. You go sometimes an hour or so between new crafting stations, but sometimes it's like 10 mins between and if you just farmed resources you have enough for the whole new tier of upgrades that just made your previous tier pointless, meaning you don't feel like your effort at all was worth it.. and that's especially bad when you spent anytime getting an epic weapon to have it overpowered so quickly by a common weapon.

The quest log stuff is bad, you just get a few word summary and then the chat log.. but nothing to tell you where that quest person was... so on the 2nd continent I sometimes forgot which of the all similar looking guys was the one who gave the quest to me.. and I warp to multiple spots to go turn in the quest because hell if I remember who that guy was and where he was stationed. It'd be nice if it marked the map so you could easily go turn in the quest... some others were hard to track as you can't see some of your resources, at least not that I could see.. so you didn't remember which piece you were missing.

..but all of that isn't a deal breaker as much as the fact the game essentially is asking you do everything 3 times over on each continent without adding anything really new to the gameplay... it's just.. hey start over in a new map and play out the same path again to arbitrarily make the game longer.

Personally, I would have rather it have been one continent stretched a little longer and been done.

got a solid 10 hours of fun out of the game but like others have said - once you reach the 2nd continent it's tough to keep going

I've enjoyed the Bawg so far. I just got the second fishing pole and it's been alot of collecting and grinding new armors/workstations but I only usually play for an hour at a time at lunch. I haven't really treated like a big main game, but rather like something I can use to accomplish small tasks here and there.

We will see how I feel after this biome though.

I usually only play around lunch time at work and I must say I am still hooked. Looking forward to each new time i play haha.

Well, I've been playing this for a few days straight. Once you hit the second continent its a lot of "more of the same". Wish the game was deeper. Still fun, don't regret the purchase. In fact, I fantasize about making a 3D RPG with a lot of the elements the game is using :P.
