crazy month for shmups releases

hyperbolically metafictive
star soldier psp and OMFG GOTY MUSHIHIMESAMA on the 21st. sengoku cannon and that taito compilation on the 28th. and nanostray, which i think i'll skip. that's a lotta shooting. too much shooting, almost. i'm still playing dragon blaze.

Shin'en games always look fine, sure, and they often sound even better than they look. Those demosceners haven't figured out how to make a good shooter yet, though.

Sengoku Cannon and Mushihimesama are going to eat up my August. I'm hoping for the best with Cannon but expecting the worst. I'm almost a little afraid to get into Mushihimesama just yet, because I haven't got around to a 1-credit-clear of Espgaluda. Looking forward to it, though.

so, uh, a vertical shooter on the psp... do you just play it horizontally?

and is the psp region free for games?

Ain't it the truth.

Taito and Mushihime are preordered for me.

I'm more anticipating the Taito set so that I can finally play Don Doko Don, though.

I have the Taito collectio preordered as well. I'll buy star soldier as soon as it's released, and I will wait a while on Mushihimesama. The soundtrack set for it looks pretty cool though.

Iridion II is alot better (more fun) than Iridion 3D. By that logic, Nanostray should be a competent shooter just as long as Shin'en continues to improve. I'll take that $30 gamble :D

i thought iridion 2 was decent enough, and i'd give nanostray a go if this month wasn't so crowded. of this month's three (three!) portable shmups, star soldier's the only one that i'm really confident about -- the gc version was remarkably good, and i think autofire and a true vertical format will only improve it.

incidentally, ps2 version of xexex next month. along with the second taito compilation. in terms of sheer quantity, this has to be the biggest shooter windfall since the saturn's heyday.

Nanostray question: do you need to use the touchscreen to switch weapons? I've heard mixed reports. Having to do so would equal a no-sale for me as I am way to anal to touch the screen with my thumb.

I've got Mushi pre-ordered. I'll probably pick up Star Soldier as soon as I can afford it, and wait for impressions on Sengoku Cannon before I consider it.

Star Soldier on the Cube is pretty bad. I don't play it hardly ever, so I don't have much faith in the PSP version, but Nanostray was godly at E3.

star soldier and mushihime shipped from play asia. and i went with the fast shipping for once. :D

let us know whether Mushihime is worth it. I might give it a go, but shooters are usually expensive as fuck for how much play you get out of them and I dunno whether I want to drop that much on it.
