Creepy unsolved/paranormal/strange events thread

Just shooting the breeze on the Pilliga encounter, some believe it to be a Yowie or perhaps an Imjin known as Turramulli - a type of Aboriginal dreamtime creature. Turramulli certainly could be a Yowie, going by indigenous descriptions.

Chilling piece of audio, though.

For the first half of my childhood upbringing I lived in New England, before moving down south. When we moved to the new house down south my mom told me about something that had happened in the old house that freaked her out, and never told me because she didn't want it to bother me.

In the old house, my dad had fixed a doorway to a closet that had been damaged some how. I don't remember how. He's a very thorough and hard worker, a handyman having grown up on a farm, and always did things right the first time. Well, one day my mom was walking past that closet door and noticed something odd about it...

You know the pegs that secure the actual door to the door frame and combine the hinges? They look like long nails with a head on one end? Well, my mom noticed that all of those pegs were secured into the hinges upside down. That's not how you put those pegs into door hinges, and my dad would never have done that.

I trust my mom, she doesn't lie and she wouldn't lie about something like this. I also trust that my dad would never have made that kind of error in something as simple as putting a door into its frame in contrast to other tasks he's done in the past.

Not sure how to explain that, and it's a pretty odd little story.

And? Did you ask your dad about it?

I don't know. I would've just chalked that up to making a mistake. People who are incredibly skilled can still make mistakes, even minor ones.

A dreamtime creature? It only appears in dreams or is it like a "tulpa"/thoughtform? A creature that is created from a person's beliefs and thoughts. I'd read about it before, it's a pretty creepy idea.

What's a Yowie/Turramulli/Imjin?

No, I actually never did confront him about it. But honestly, it's not really a small mistake...there are three pegs to secure the door, and each one of them was upside down. Upside down is clearly wrong, and it's not like he hadn't put doors into frames before then.

I'll bring it up next time I'm able, haha.

Okay, I guess you could say it's odd... but like... if that's the creepiest thing a spirit/ghost/creature is going to do - rearrange the furniture and install door hinges upside down - eh.

I have one.

I was young, perhaps six, but definitely less than ten. Even at the age of six, I slept in a crib because my family was poor and my father was slowly building me a shoddy bedframe at the time. I remember trying to sleep and my hand was poking out of the bars of the crib. And I was half asleep - in that weird state where you're aware that you've dozed off. Then I felt and heard what could have been the most terrifying thing imaginable. I felt something grabbing my index finger on the hand poking out of the bars. And I heard a conversation between whatever it was that was holding my finger and its friend. They said something to the effect of, "See, how nice it looks and feels? It's growing." And I heard cackling. And while this was happening I made certain to keep my eyes shut and I held my breath. Then I felt my finger released from the grip of whatever it was. And I woke up and started sobbing uncontrollably. My sister slept in the same room as me and I felt as though she had betrayed me by not protecting me. My mother came into the room and asked me what was the matter but I didn't say anything.

The thing that scared me the most was the closet. The door was wide open. From a young age - right before I was tucked into bed and made to sleep - I would tell my mother to make certain that the closet was empty. She would oblige me by turning on the closet light and showing me that nothing was there, and then she would close the closet door before turning off the bedroom light. That night, I guess she hadn't gone through that routine. Even at six I was forming some kind of logic, some kind of reason for why it happened. Obviously, I didn't dismiss it as just a dream. It felt too goddamn real, for one, and even to this day it's a very vivid memory for me. From that night forward, I made sure to close the closet door before going to sleep. Unfortunately, I later saw a horror film about a red-eyed teddy bear demon that lived under a child's bed. I knew I was at a major disadvantage because my dead beat father forgot to create the drawers that would slide into my bed frame so for several years I had three spaces underneath my bed. And later I got another secondhand bedframe that rose above the floor and it bugged the hell out of me.

When I recently moved into my new apartment with my family, I argued with my mom to get rid of that bedframe and to just have two mattresses on top of one another as my bed. I still make sure to close my closet door before going to sleep at night. I'm 21.

Haha, right? But who knows of the intent, if it was intellectual :P

Aaaaaaand fuck. I was just about to turn the lights out for the night.

Your story brought back awful memories of a silly horror story I heard as a kid about a guy sleeping who thought his dog was licking his hand (that was, basically like yours, extended over the edge of the bed) but it turned out to be some deranged psychopath who actually killed his dog and wrote on the wall "people can lick hands too", or something to that effect. That story effed me up for years.

Yup, I've read about that one in the classic horror story collections. In the version I read it was an old woman who had heard on the news that some people had escaped from an insane asylum, and she was drifting off on her bed and saw her dog lying on the rug in the next room and also felt something licking her hands at the same time. That story bothered me, too, and for that reason and the experience I had, I don't let my hands hang over the side of my bed.

I still don't know if I imagined it to this day, honestly, but I will always remember it. When I was younger and lived in Tijuana for a while, there was a realistic painting of my parents and my oldest sister when she was an infant in one of the rooms. I was by myself in the room, and for some reason I just turned to look at the painting. When I did, all three of their mouths had the tongue of a snake coming out of them. If you've ever seen a snake stick out its tongue and retract it, then you've seen what I saw. It was that fast. The painting didn't actually animate in any way; the tongues were just positioned perfectly on their mouths, giving the illusion that it was actually coming from them. The tongues did move, of course, and they looked real, and long.

I didn't scream, but I made a whimpering noise and got the fuck out of there. After that happened, I would be scared to death of going to the bathroom, which was located in a small room connected to the room the painting was in. That was the only time it happened, and I don't actually remember much else in regards to the painting. I don't think I told anyone about it, either. If I did, they probably didn't believe me.

When we moved to the house we're in now, my mom hung the painting in the hallway. It's a pretty narrow hallway and, of course, it was hung right by the bathroom door. The fear of going to the bathroom at night became all too real again, haha. I would try my hardest not to look at the damn thing, but sometimes it was like some force made me turn and check if it was still a normal painting. It's still hung in the hallway to this day, though I do my best not to make eye contact with it. If I do, it's not for long. I no longer fear it, but I am slightly disturbed by it still, because I associate my seeing it with what happened all those years ago.

Shit, I was getting massive goose bumps just typing this out. I had to go take a piss before hitting sumbit, too... and my eyes couldn't help but look at the damn painting. Gah!

Not sure how to explain that, and it's a pretty odd little story.

I'm no handyman, but don't door hinges come pre-assembled? As in, you just need to bolt each side of it onto the frame and the door? I swear I've seen them in packaging like that with that 'pin' you're talking about pre-installed.

I guess what I'm saying is, he could have easily accidentally put them on upside down since I don't think the consumer is the one putting that pin in.

Not sure. I can imagine that they'd sell them prepared that way, yeah. I moved down south when I was 10, I'm 23 now so this would have happened at the very least 13 years ago. Like I said, I never actually confronted my father about this after hearing it from my mom, so next time I get the chance I'll bring it up and see if maybe that was the case.

Though I feel like if it was a simple mistake that my dad made, and my mom had brought it to his attention all those years ago after stumbling upon it, she wouldn't have bothered telling me about it years later after moving. The missing piece of evidence is my dad's testimony! lol

lol Well get that testimony and report your findings!

Well, given that there's two explanations here:

1. Someone made a mistake.
2. Ghosts came and rearranged some hinges.

It's clear that #2 is far more likely.

Is this as good as Mysterious Universe podcasts?
In my honest opinion, I don't think so. MU to me is still the best out there as far as production. The sound quality on MU is great, the interviews they have with people over the phone/skype sometimes sound like they're right in the studio. Also, being a podcast Ben and Aaron's interviews with guests sound relaxed and not rushed for time.

The show I linked to can seem a bit rushed because it's an actual radio show which has to take breaks for ads. The ads aren't in the podcast but since it's the prior night's show only in podcast form sometimes interviews with people can seem rushed.

But it's nice filler in between episodes of MU, plus Darkness Radio airs five days a week and they talk about a lot of topics I'm interested in. Topics similar to what MU talk about.

I posted my "creepy experience" in the "Real-Pic January" thread a few months back but I figured it would be more appropriate here.

-I'm pretty sure the first place I lived in during my stint in Japan was haunted.
It was a very traditional style place with sliding closet doors and tatami flooring - a lot like the house in the movie Ju-On/The Grudge.
The apartment was 2 floors, almost like a mini-townhouse, and was at the very end of a row of 5 identical apartments. There were 2 large tatami rooms upstairs, with a living room, kitchen, and bathroom/shower areas downstairs. I slept in the tatami room directly above the living room.

When I first moved in, I had a neighbor right next door so I'd often hear noises upstairs like footsteps or closets sliding open and just assumed I could hear the neighbor through the wall/floor.

About 6 months later, all of my neighbors except the one all the way at the far (opposite) end moved out. But......the noises didn't stop. Almost every night I'd hear footsteps and a closet sliding open above me while I sat in my living room. I still was brave enough to sleep up there, but not before turning on every light and checking every closet.

Until something happened the following Winter...

Living in Japan I had to hang my laundry to dry and, as it was too cold to put outside in Winter, I would hang it on the curtain racks in front of my upstairs windows. One morning when I was getting ready for work, I went upstairs to grab an undershirt that had been drying in the spare tatami room (not the one I slept in). As it was warmer inside than outside, there was a bit of condensation on the inside of the window. I went to grab the shirt when I noticed something strange.

There was a perfect, tiny hand-print in the condensation on the inside of the second-floor window.

I have giant hands (I'm 6'5") and I hadn't had anyone over in months so I freaked out quite a bit.
Needless to say, that was the last time I ever went into my upstairs bedrooms at night.

I think it's Australia's Bigfoot. And damn at some of these stories posted on this page, creepy stuff!

Ok so, let me tell you about what has happened to me.

Ok so I'm sleeping one night when i just wake up suddenly and just see the door fully close by itself. Why I would wake up at that moment and why would I instantly look at my door to see it lose is still a mystery to me. And before you start talking about windows being open, well there were no windows open in the house, it was in the middle of winter and I'm completely terrified of anything outside. So a door that closed completely by itself scared the ever living shit out of me.

Another time I was sleeping and I heard just this piercing scream from outside,
me and my sister apparently were the only ones who heard it and it scared the ever loving pis out of me then.

Another time when i was like 12 I saw a small piece of paper on he ground neatly cut into a rectangle. I pick it up for some reason, and it reads, "Get out of here". The type of paper felt like it was from a magazine, well let's just say that scared me incredibly too.

Another time I feel a cat climbing on top of me and sleeping, but there is actually no cat (THEN WHO WAS PAWS).

I've heard footsteps before, people opening the garage, and people walking upstairs without those events happening.

I've seen spirits before in my house

I've seen etches of letters, numbers, and symbols etched into trees, grass, and plants

Also, some things that are about me specifically:

I do weird things with my site, i'm able to see almost an aura on people, I once looked into a mirror and did this and I saw something move, and then I wasn't able to use that site for 2 weeks.

I used to meditate a lot but I stopped when i think I got to my brain showing me the "bad" part of me. Some of the shit i saw freaked me out so i stopped doing it.

I've been able to tell people things telepathically on occasion, but I lose that ability very easily.

This one's creepy, but it's easy to explain. It was just sleep paralysis. Fairly common, and shit scary.

About the door closing , that happens sometimes in my house because of the ventilation system. It will suddenly pull air and slam a random open door.

When I was younger I found a stash of porn in my parents room so I decided to watch it when they were gone for the day. While having the VHS tapes strewn about the floor, I heard the front gate open, so I ejected the tape and grabbed the rest, shoving them under the bed. I couldn't exit through their room because it lead directly to our front door and I could already hear their keys jangling, so I had to close and lock their door, essentially trapping myself inside.

When the front door opened up, the only thing I could do was exit through their balcony, so in desperation I climbed the side of the railing and jump down about 10 feet, calmed myself down, and chilled out in the basement hoping no one would notice while I watched something on tv.

Next thing I know, it's my brother coming down the stairs looking around cautiously, asking me if I've been upstairs. Of course, not wanting to get caught, I said no, but then this sudden look of shock washes over his face. He proceeds to explain how he heard these loud noises coming from the house and noticed the lights were on. He was thinking it was me, but my parents bedroom door was locked and no one had the key but them (I was able to slide a firm sheet of plastic down the side).

To this day, he tells the story of when he came home and heard a poltergeist that left the lights on and how he scared the hell out of him.

I want to grab older episodes of Mysterious Universe. Can I do that through iTunes? Quite enjoyable!
I'm subscribed to them on iTunes but it seems they only go back a couple of episodes. But on their own site you can go back a couple of seasons. They're on their seventh season now but on their site episodes go back to season two. You'll probably have to go through each season and download them but I love the show.

Been listening to them for a couple of years since someone recommended them here on GAF. Also, don't know if anyone's read this but here's a Black Eyed People story from Hawaii: http://from-the-shadows.blogspot.com/2012/04/font-face-font-family-times-new.html

This whole BEK/People thing fascinates me. I was listening to the show I linked to at the top of the thread last night and spooked my own damn self. Jokes on me for listening about that topic at two in the morning.

What's a Yowie/Turramulli/Imjin?

Yeah, as Purple Cobra said, a Yowie is the Australian bigfoot/sasquatch. Plenty of reports of these hulking hairy hominids out the bush. The Turramulli is thought to be a Yowie-like creature from Australian aboriginal mythology, with the description matching what we'd call a bigfoot.

The Imjin is a particular "species" of Quinkan, and I suppose the Quinkan would be best described as spirit beings - primarily from Northern Australia, particularly Cape York peninsula.

Getting back to the Pilliga, I'd read a few anecdotes from guys who bow-hunted there that the place has a weird, unsettling vibe. According to them, the Pilliga is not a place many of the local Aboriginal folk ever want to spend any time in - a hotbed for nasty or dangerous spirits.

So... it was you?

Shoot me, I'm guilty! Of course, for that event and for every time I have to hear the story whenever he brings it up. I don't dare say anything because my mom is hardcore religious (she eventually found my dad's stash and tossed his vids), so I don't think I ever will. I do admit, it's entertaining when my mom tries to convince me our house is haunted and cites that as an example, among a few other things (she usually jumps to the conclusion of suspicious ghost activity whenever a strange noise is heard, usually having to do with changing room pressure or the fact that the hill in front of our reflects a lot of sound from down below).

There is only one event that creeps me out and (of course) I was studying by myself, parents on vacation, brother out partying, door closed and about 11pm -- I hear a loud crash, go out to investigate and notice there's this faux shaman's wand lying in the middle of the hallway (my mom is heavily into crafts and made a wand using animal furs she found at a thrift store, strung-together beads, and a hollowed-out turtle shell).

Now, I was in no way spooked when I heard it, I just thought a picture frame fell and I'd hang it back up. Problem is when I picked up the wand to place it back on its hook, I noticed the leather strap that was used to loop around the hook was unbroken. Big whoop, considering it was probably hanging on a nail. NOPE.

When I tried to reach upward to loop the strap, it wasn't a nail, but an actual bent L-shaped hook. The metal came out from the wall about an inch away, then bent upward at a 90 degree angle for 2 inches.

I hung it back up again and promptly returned to my room with the door locked.

Only thing I can think of is that when it was originally placed up there, my mom might have placed the strap on the tip of the hook, instead of in the bent elbow.

I will never know. It's never happened since (it's been 10 years). :)

And that Black Eyed People story made me feel all antsy. Thankfully, my fiancee lives with me now, and I have someone in the bed with me at all times, haha.

I'm going to guess yes, unless someone here can correct me on that. I remember downloading another podcast from another site, and when I transferred it to iTunes it went to the podcast section. Maybe the shows from MU will transfer like that as well?

And yeah, I also got myself all wound up last night listening to that show about BEKs, lol :D

I've got one that still scares the hell out of me when I think about it today.

When I was about 8, we moved into a brand new house and I loved it. We lived there for years and I never had any experiences that I would call paranormal except one time. It was probably like 2 am and I woke up and had to go pee. Where my room was, you had to walk down the hallway, past the kitchen/living room to reach the bathroom. Anyways, right as I reached the end of the hallway, I saw a figure of a man in the living room, sitting on top of the couch (Not on it, but like on the top part of the furniture). I instantly screamed like a little bitch and my mom came running out of her bedroom to see what was wrong. She thought I was crazy or watched too many horror movies, but I know damn well what I saw. After that, I was terrified to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night until we moved from that house.

Like I said, I never had any more experiences at that house except that one but I know damn well what I saw and I'll never forget it.

I'll give it a shot over the next few days. I brought a bunch on my iPhone today at work...Once I start hammering out calcs, I'm going to put my headphones on and zone out, haha. A+

Awesome. :) It's a good show. Matter of fact, a new show should be up today. They put a new show up every Friday, but since Australia is ahead time wise we get to download it on Thursdays in the US.

I was going to listen to it at like 3am yesterday, but chickened out. :lol Will definitely listen tonight though.

Love the Mellisa Clarke avatar, btw.
Thanks. She's pretty cute. :)

I just had my first case of sleep paralysis in years. This morning around 3 I felt like I was being pulled out of bed by a black figure. I was screaming so loud I almost lost my voice today. And I was thrashing around like a bull in a china shop. When I woke I had abrasions and cuts on my arms and legs (from wildly kicking things) and the floor of my room was covered in CDs and games that had been smashed from the boxes I was storing them in.

Anyway it's all happening because I am under a lot of stress in school and have been up late working on stuff. Not calling supernatural or anything, but it's amazing how real sleep paralysis (old hag syndrome) can be. I never wanna feel anything like that again.

Damn, sleep paralysis? Time to google a wiki. That sounds zero fun. :|

Regarding Mysterious Universe, I can't help but praise how wonderfully fun these guys are to listen to. They seem to do a REALLY great job of looking at every side of a story. I feel like I should subscribe and support these dudes (and get access to all the plus+ content). Awesome stuff!

Always makes me happy to see new posts in this thread.
After so much reading, I figure I might as well share something that happened to me about six or seven years ago. I was 19 or 20 at the time, it was late July and life was fantastic. I’d recently started dating a girl who lived with her parents outside a town called Sundsvall, in Sweden. Things were going well, and we saw each other quite a lot that summer. It ended, though, when I moved away later that year.

Anyway, I had spent the evening watching a couple of movies with my friends, and was planning on going to bed when she called me and invited me over, asking me if I would like to go for a swim. There is a lake a couple of kilometers from the house she lived in, beautiful place. It was very hot outside so I agreed even though it was late, and drove over to pick her up, and then on to the small beach we usually stayed at. When we got there, it was very dark, and quiet. The lake is surrounded by farms and summer houses, but there are no buildings close to the water. I was hesitant to go in, it felt cold and I don’t like swimming in the dark, but she swam out pretty far. I stood by the shore, water going up to my ankles, dressed in my underwear and wanted to go home. She convinced me to go in, though, I’m sure you can imagine how, and I took a deep breath and went out to join her in the water.

After a while, I thought I heard voices coming from the far end of the lake. It’s not very big, so it would have been easy to see where they were coming from had it been bright enough. After listening to them for a while, I had come to the conclusion that it was a bunch of kids. Funny thing is, they didn’t speak Swedish, but that’s not very unusual so I didn’t pay much attention. I didn’t recognize the language anyway. All of a sudden though, they stopped talking and there was this tremendous splash. It was very loud, and it spooked me quite a bit. The girl I was with laughed at me, said I imagined things. She was certain that they were jumping from a trampoline into the water or something similar. I had almost convinced myself she was right, when I heard another big splash and this was fucking close. So close I can’t believe I couldn’t see anything. And loud. Loud enough to make me panic. To this day I have no idea how I managed to get out of the water, pick up my clothes and get in the car that fast. When I turned the key, and started the engine, my girlfriend was still in the water. I screamed at her to hurry the fuck up, and I could see she was scared too. When she finally got in the car, I slammed it into first gear, and sped away. I asked her what she heard and saw but she just shook her head.

We talked about it later, when we got home and with the lights turned on, but neither of us saw what had made the noise. She had no explanation for it, her best guess was a bear fell from the sky, that’s how loud it was. I never went back to that lake, and I probably never will. At least not during the night.

Funny, writing it out, it doesn’t sound scary at all. But there and then, I was scared out of my mind. There are fish in the lake, quite large fish, but not big enough to make that kind of noise unless someone was secretely breeding sharks which I find unlikely.

^^

I have ONE phobia that I can think of, and it's large bodies of water that I can't see the bottom of. Add weird occurrences like that, and I'm done.

Listening to MU, they suggest a lot of neat books and such. I keep forgetting to write them down, though. Does anyone have any good/fun/unique reads on these sorts of topics?

There was a perfect, tiny hand-print in the condensation on the inside of the second-floor window.

I have giant hands (I'm 6'5") and I hadn't had anyone over in months so I freaked out quite a bit.
Needless to say, that was the last time I ever went into my upstairs bedrooms at night.

Did you ever wash the windows yourself? Sometimes the natural oil of a human handprint might have prevented the condensation from forming perfectly over that one spot, making an previously invisible print appear. Maybe it was just the cleaning lady's kid.

I read Penpal on reddit's nosleep...

Man, that's awesome. Not really that scary, but atmospheric and clever as shit.

Really enjoyed it.
