Yeah dude, I also never understood that as being a "cringey" thing.

Some people just immediately judge a person alone in a restaurant, cafe, w/e by "lalala all alone no friends!" and its just dumb because it can happen for a multitude of reasons.
I say this as someone who don't usually does it (go to restaurants alone for example) but I've seen other people like that and its just normal. It also depends on the place/local you are in I guess, some people just love to draw conclusions right out of their bottom.

I had to take a work trip out of state during Valentine's week. I actually ate out at a restaurant on Valentine's Day by myself - table for 1! The restaurant had pink and red balloons at every table. Oh well, it's a funny story for me that I don't mind sharing.

Damn man, that is a funny story. Despite what I've said, if there would be one situation I would feel kinda uncomfortable dining / lunching out alone would be in that scenario.
