Going to earn a ton of money while being able to stat-pad and become the undisputed top scorer of all time in mens football.

With the career he's had you can't hate.

Im surprised no european club wanted him. Just use him as a center forward like Benzema.

He's no longer able to play at the level a top European club would want and wants too much money for a lower level European club to be able to afford him.

Also, Benzema won the last Balon D'Or. Saying to "just" use Ronaldo like him is asking a lot.

Ronaldo will team-up with Vincent Aboubakar and Anderson Talisca. Attack will be exciting to watch.

There's nothing that he can do there that will enrich his legacy. One of the best ever falling short of the obvious greats. Would rather him go to MLS but money talks.

If he's happy and makes it what it is then that's great.

Back-end of a career move. Just rake in that money while you still can and get to do something you love at a highish level for a few more years.

I don't think he'll enjoy the football at that level though, but in a few years his only means of making money will be as a pundit, his own business ventures (football academy perhaps, books (ghost-written no doubt), TV show, etc.), as a paid guest on TV shows, and from investments. Not sure he has it to be a manager.

So I don't blame him at all. If I were him, I'd be building up that retirement kitty too.

And if anyone is going to go moralising him taking Saudi money... well if he wants to, he can take it and do an awful lot of good with it.

Hi-ish level? You're too kind. As Craig Burley accurately said, "he could score a hat-trick every game and no one would care."

In a few years he would still have generational wealth without playing in Saudi Arabia.

If he ever wants to get rid of the Saudi money stink, he would need to do some serious charitable work, which I have no reason to believe that he wouldn't, but only time will tell.

He did it for the money.

If he wanted to, he could have taken a pay cut and gone back to Sporting or another European team, but he put money first.

They'll probably shell out for some others who are end of career to be their entertainment.

Playing for team almost no one cares about for little money or playing for a team pretty no one (sometimes literally) cares about but be paid more than at your prime and maybe get to play with/against some other previously great players...

Not really a hard choice.

I think it’s a great decision. He loves to play and he gets paid massive. Most people would of retired by this age

The guy is almost 40 years old, has been playing at peak performance and carrying Portugal alone for the last 20.

So yeah, time to earn some of those Petro dollars for a year or two.
My guess is he's not good with spending money (or rather keeping it). He should have a big fortune after being one of the top players for so many years.

Nah it’s about the youth now when it comes to top euro teams.

Nah. Top experienced players still have something to offer. Take Ibrahimović for example, who is still playing for AC Milan at the age of 41.

Or Giroud who is 36 and still playing for Milan and for France.

There are many more players over 35 still playing at the top level.

Dude is at the end of his career, this WC was his last one, and with messi winning it, there is probably zero reason for him to even think to participate at the next one even if he could.

He probably sits on the point now where its just grinding maximum money before he retires. Seems like a smart move.

Would you really turn down $75m a year, especially when in a few years you're skills are not going to be worth anywhere near that ever again? All while still getting to play the game you love, albeit nowhere near at the same level?

Even as a pundit, doing appearances/advertising and running your own business off the back of your name, you'd never likely get close to that. David Beckham is probably the most successful ex-footballer and he earns about $50m a year.

Ibra is like a bench hype guy at this point and barely plays. Ronaldo wants to play.

Ronaldo was as still great at 36 too. It’s just hitting him now. Same could happen to giroud.

What other “top” players are playing at that age? Besides maybe some CBs

Players who are 35 and over? Messi, Benzema and Modric spring to mind.

Is this a record amount per year for a sports player? Doubt Messi is getting anywhere near this much for Miami.

From my quick research, yes. Messi hasn't signed with Miami, he'll be with PSG at least 'till this coming summer. Miami is only a matter of time, though, since he owns a home in Miami. He will abso-fucking-lutely not be making anywhere near $200 million a year in Miami, $20 - $30 million at best.

What top club will sign them in two years? Keep in mind modric and Messi’s positions don’t require the same fitness as today’s top club strikers. Also keep in mind Modric is about to retire.

Even Barca probably won’t want to resign Messi on his 38th birthday. It’s about the future when it comes to top clubs.
