What top club will sign them in two years? Keep in mind modric and Messi’s positions don’t require the same fitness as today’s top club strikers. Also keep in mind Modric is about to retire.

Even Barca probably won’t want to resign Messi on his 38th birthday. It’s about the future when it comes to top clubs.

Plenty of clubs in Europe would sign Ronaldo, but the issue is with his wages.

For how long though? 1 year at most. This move guarantees he plays games and is ridiculously set for life. He still loves the game and probably wants to play for a while. Why not make money while you’re at it. He’s already accomplished everything in Europe

I imagine he won't even have to pay that much in taxes, making the contract a whole different level of craziness.

Sure, the pay is amazing (not that he was broke), but he said himself in previous interviews that he wanted to retire in Europe and didn't want to play in the US or Saudi.

He chose the money. Not saying he chose poorly, but he could have still played in Europe if he really wanted to.

Nah. Top experienced players still have something to offer. Take Ibrahimović for example, who is still playing for AC Milan at the age of 41.

Or Giroud who is 36 and still playing for Milan and for France.

There are many more players over 35 still playing at the top level.
I wouldn’t say that the Serie A is top level.

Players who are 35 and over? Messi, Benzema and Modric spring to mind.

And all of them are coming to the end of their careers. You can see how Messi has slowed down. Even in the World Cup Final, he wasn't as present as he used to be. Mbappé, being so much younger, was all over the place like a Tigger.

It's Ronaldo. He could go play for peanuts in his mid-40s for some lower European club. Just because a club is European doesn't mean that they are good - Greuther Furth still exist.

By his mid-40s though, even the Middle Eastern oil-money teams would be having second thoughts and not offering as much.

Yes. Because Mbappe is younger. However, clearly PSG still see the value in Messi considering he's signed a new contract.

My argument is that there would still be a role in a European team for Ronaldo if he wanted it.

As a bench warmer, yes.

Consider that he was a bench warmer for a lot of this World Cup.

Multiple factors affected his decision. Money obviously is 1. Second is after that Morgan interview, clubs are very careful as same scenario might happen to them. Also the Saudi Leauge doesn’t get western media attention so he can take a rest from all that. Also all Saudi Leauge clubs are owned by the government and sector is not privatized yet. That’s why this deal is possible as that amount wouldn’t not make business sense for a 37 years old player elsewhere.
