Crypt of the Necrodancer |OT| Dancing the knight away

I may stream it again later tonight, but i beat zone 1 yesterday, and i was just hooked for an hour tryig to do it. The game just blends the 2 genres together so damn well.

Beat zone 1. Stage transitions really mess with my head... I'll get the beat for the previous stage... go into the next and instantly lose my combo.

You can actually stand still at the beginning of a new stage without losing your combo and get used to the new beat for a few seconds. Just managed to beat Zone 3 for the first time and will now go for harcore mode. Honestly, the game is a bit light on content for a roguelike, but I'm not complaining, it's a lot of fun.

What do you mean with light on content? I really want to play it, but I am currently going through the Indie thread games for the current month and considering spending the 15$ on 3-5 other games instead.

I had a bit of an advantage because I watched streams before the game's release, but I beat Zone 1-3 (with 3 random stages + boss each) in ~6 hours, while repeating Zone 1 and 2 about 5-10 times each for practice. In that time I've seen all the enemies, items and environments the game has to offer right now. A Zone 4 is planned but not implemented yet.

Now all that is left is beating Hardcore Mode (Zone 1-3 in one sitting without upgrades) and doing speedruns. While that is a big part of the game and will occupy me for many more hours, there aren't any surprises left in terms of content and randomness. Basically, the meat of the game is in score-/speedruns, which might not be for everyone.

Ah, I see. A bit of a pity really. I might wait for the full release then, seems like I'd get 8-10 hours of content out of it with the last level added without speedrunning. Is there a decent steam friends leaderboard integration?

Definitely. It has separate leaderboards for score-, speedruns, daily challenges and seeded runs. They can be filtered by Steam friends and have built-in replays (which are mostly broken right now, but it's Early Access).

That sounds rather neat though, thanks for the input. I forwarded your comments to the Indie thread, since others in there will be interested as well.

This game is awesome. Played for about an hour to get relatively decent at Zone 1. Beat the boss once and got some upgrades and had a great time rocking through some dungeons.

Music is killer of course, and I definitely enjoy the rhythm of the combat and movement. Just stuff like the shimmy you develop to take out the skeletons is really intuitive feeling. Though things definitely get easier when you get a weapon with more than one range, like a spear. Then a lot of the enemies aren't a huge threat unless you get in to deep of the middle of a room.

I can definitely see how it could end up being somewhat shallow in the end, since there are just the three zones right now and they take maybe 10 minutes each, if you finish em, but I'm sold enough on the concept that I definitely don't mind spending the money.

Amazing game, but it fucks with my brain. After I stop playing I still keep doing things in rythm. Like when I'm browsing gaf, I automatically scroll in to the rythm o_O

Finally had the money for the game and it is worth EVERY penny I spent on it. It's so fun and addicting! It's very hard to quit playing! lol

I'm going to be going through withdrawals at work tomorrow. lol

Please come to Vita ASAP!!

I bought this as a random gift just because I love the title of the game and early access trailer so much. "Necrodancer" just makes me smile. I plan to get it for myself at some point though.

Thread title could be "monster krumper" though

Exact same thing happens to me. I thought I was the only one!

But yeah, this game is great and anyone who hasn't tried it yet should!

Just bought this after seeing it on an Extra Life stream. Love it already and I suck. One downside, after playing for half an hour, I find myself browsing the internet to the beat.

Got this off the Steam Sale today. Played a couple of hours of it. Really, really fun! I wish I was playing it right now. Why am I not playing it right now?

This is my jam. Shopkeeper songs give me chills.

Yeah, those Shopkeeper vocals are so good.

Got this during the Steam Sale and it's so good. Just must replace One Finger Death Punch as one of the addicting games in my library

Simple complexity. The controls are so simple, but the game is complex and deep. It's all about the gameplay. Learning how enemies move and react to the beat. Lining up your attacks depending on what enemies you're dealing with and the weapon you have equipped. Timing. Adapting your strategy on the fly when some mini-boss barges in or you acquire an special item. Learning the rhythm.

And the soundtrack is just fantastic. OST is awesome from the tutorial and it only gets better

This game is fucking amazing and if you aren't playing it you are doing it wrong
Yeah, this! Holy shit, I had planned to start my New Years by finishing off Evil Within. Nope, have now sat and played Crypt of the NecroDancer for 6 hours straight... Yikes

Will this thread be moved out of community when the game is out of early access, or will there be another thread? Full release in 20 minutes

This game is very, very addicting. Moving to a beat is very interesting. I tried custom soundtracks and it works really well. One issue I'm having are the controls. I wish that the analog sticks worked for menus with the standard a to select and b to cancel.

If you ask me this game destroys Isaac

Idk, Isaac is almost at Spelunky levels for me, this however cool seems more finite (which, there's nothing wrong with)

that's not even the point tho. I have like $20 left to last me for a long time on games and having gotten Isaac it'd feel silly to spend $21 total in 2 games and have to divide my time between, of which they both require a lot

ugh, i'll think it over

I had been waiting for this to leave Early Access so I bought it. A lot of fun, and I love how the merchant starts singing as you enter the store. Makes me laugh every time.

I gotta get used to the mechanic, but I switched to the bard for now and I'm still enjoying it even if I feel like a total noob. Its great to see an interesting well-designed roguelike

Amazing how a simple twist can make such a now routine genre a ton of fun to play. This game deserves more attention.

I think Bombs over baghdad is probably the best custom song I've tried yet to play to, but I haven't tried that much. Has anyone found a particularly good song to pair with the game?

Only finished the game with the Bard so far. Trying to get down zone 4 enemies patterns so I can beat the game the right way with Cadence.
